Smalling or Jones - who goes?

Now that we've signed Lindelof, we will have Bailly, Rojo, Lindelof and another CB?

I know there has been murmurs about United listening to offers for Smalling but I'm sure some of us would prefer to see Jones go due to him constantly injuring himself and others.

I suppose we could keep both of them until January, since Rojo is fecked, but with World Cup next year will one them want to sit in the strands most weeks waiting on something to happen to our defence?

Poll would be welcome!

I think Jones is the better player. Couple of years younger too.

Hope we keep Blind too.

Let's get rid of all the English while we're at it, and submit for La Liga next year.

Hope Smalling but I think it will be Jones who had better season of the two.

Neither one goes because as of now we only have 4 senior centrebacks. Rojo is likely out till January earliest.

Our Home grown contingent is going to be at skint if we sell them both and not replace them with home grown players.

For me, Smalling has to go. We'd get a better fee for him, Wenger likes him and I wouldn't mind selling him to Arsenal. Jones has had a better season and doesn't crap himself when we need to hold onto a lead.

I don't dislike either player really, but it's good that one of them will be going.

Both. Rather have a couple of the kids behind Eric and Victor.

I'd ship Jones out, as he's nearly always injured. Smalling's fitness last season was poor too, but is usually a bit more reliable. When fit, I'd peg Smalling as the better player, but he was poor this season after a solid 18 months under LvG.

Smalling has had more good games over a longer period of time than Jones, though Jones has had a better season in 16/17, but overall there is not much in it.

Could probably get a better fee for Smalling, but I also think he's the better option for us to keep, at least for the next season whilst Rojo is injured for a lot of it.

There's definitely room for five CBs with Rojo out til January so unless we bring in another one then keep both.

We can't get rid of Jones, because nobody in their right mind, would buy him.
We will wait 2 years for his contract to expire. Jones will leave without much fan fare.

Smalling - we can definitely get some money for him. He'll do well in a team battling relegation or just above the relegation zone.

I don't think Mourinho has any preference for either. A decent bid comes in for either one and he's gone imo.

I think Jones is the better player. He's more injury prone, obviously, but it's a higher risk - higher reward. I think it's worth it, considering we have 3 defenders ahead of either in the pecking order. He's still young (er), so there's a chance still.

Think he definitely rates Smalling higher, but then again he'd be the easier one to shift considering all Jones' issues.

I think he'd attract better clubs than that. Can even see Wenger or Klopp putting in a (low) bid.

I don't think we should sell anybody. Blind should return to CM, Tuanzebe needs a 1 year loan and having 5 (or 4 and a half players since Jones is always injured) is not that outrageous especially since we'll be competing on 3 fronts. However keeping players because of their nationality is silly

He could do a good job at any club outside top 6.. needs constant gametime though

Sell Smalling, buy Keane and loan out Tuanzebe/Mensah, play Blind in midfield or LB
Selling smalling and buying keane doesnt make sense, he wont come here to sit on the bench again. I think we will buy a Left back if we buy another defender that is. We maybe open to offers for smalling, i think of both smalling and jones, i think Jones has more talent and less mistakes in him. I think if a good offer comes in from a midtable team like stoke/albion/West ham/southampton then we will sell him. Maybe arsenal will want smalling as Arsene always had a liking for him. We need to fleece them.

Personally think Jones is the better defender and doesn't have me as worried as Smalling as he is always prone for a cock-up!

That said, Jones is more injury prone so he would most likely be a risk to stay fit the entire season anyway.

Sell Jones, keep Smalling until next summer and then replace him.

I'd rather we promoted from the youth next summer to replace Smalling as realistically they are o my going to be a rotational player anyway for the time being. Although if youth isn't up to scratch we should grab an experienced Prem proven player who only has a couple of good seasons left until we can promote.
