 Who would actually believe that
That is why I said allegedly. Although there is certainly a case for someone choosing to believe the claim.

The story is from a book written by a spanish journalist Diego Torres, "The Dark Side of Jose Mourinho". The same guy who said Jose cried when he heard Sir Alex chose Moyes over him for the United job. The incident (CL semi pre match bust up and instructions) and dressing room scene is graphically described in detail which could either mean he had a source who was at the scene or it could also be blown up and heavily biased against Mourinho. Or a total lie.

But although Mourinho came out and denounced the book, he however did not pursue any legal action against the writer or publisher considering how slanderous it potrayed him. This was a man who used to sue journalists and ex-barcelona presidents at the slightest provocation. For ffs, he even sued someone who called him a "psycopath" on twitter.
So why stop suing a journalist who put it all on paper and the publisher who printed it, if it was all a lie and he could win a huge sum of money as defamation compensation ?

Not completely mental for someone to think there migh be some truth to the stories.

I'm genuinely amazed that some folks here think he will leave Madrid at this point in time, especially given his track record of pulling stunts like this. This is pure negotiation tactics.

Yes. It was true. Both of them have massive egos. Mourinho felt that Ronaldo wasn't capable of tactical discipline and Ronaldo felt that Mourinho's strategies were too constrained for him. There were even instances when Mourinho started Ronaldo on the bench. One such occasion was against Barcelona in 2013 and Real won that match against Barcelona. As a player, Ronaldo's ego pushes him towards better performance. But as a manager, Mourinho's ego is actually detrimental and I feel he's less egoistic now than he was at Real Madrid. Mourinho has improved a lot as a manager over his career. He was an astute tactician when he started his career, but a mediocre manager. That's one of the reasons for his short-lived careers at the clubs – the arrogance that the success brings into the dressing room is unharness-able. He never had to deal with superstars or massive-egos in his career until he reached Real Madrid. A manager's mettle at man-management is proven only when he gets to manage arrogance. Mourinho somehow got away with his failed first-season at Madrid. There were many things that happened in the background that signaled his weaknesses as a manager – his attempts at gaining the control of the dressing room by curbing the influence of senior players (like Casillas) was a hint. Anyway, after his embarrassing final season at Chelsea, he seemed to have learnt many lessons in management. I feel he is on the right path at United and if Ronaldo comes back to OT, Mourinho should take it positively and use it to get better at management. SAF became such a great at man-management only by learning how to harness that arrogance. The special treatment he gave to Cantona, his ruthless attitude towards Beckham and the way he helped Ronaldo build his ambition are some of the contrasting examples of his finesse at man-management.
Good post.

The way this has all happened will anger real Madrid fans further and the boos and hanky waving will be more prevalent if Ronaldo was to stay. Will he want to keep playing for them if it were to intensify significantly more?

Whilst I'm holding out hope that he may leave and join us, I think he will stay but I can't see the Madrid fans ever being on his side.

Also how does it make his team mates feel, when he throws his toys out of the pram and then gets whatever he wants.

He's the main reason they've just become the first team ever to win back to back CLs. I think they probably accept it to be honest.

He's obviously after a pay increase to pay his tax bill. Either that or he wants the club to pay his tax bill. Not a chance he will leave Real

I just thought this as well, although that rumour that Jose said there would be a surprise was actually baseless. Either way, knock one out.
I'm already greased up like a butterball chicken, I've got a handful of swarfega and white rabbit turned up to 11...wait!...someone's at the door...oh shit! It's Ed Woodward with Eric Dier, I've gone flaccid...oh well better get cleaned up and put the kettle on.

We do that and we will be called to have no ambition by some.

I think we should focus on our signings and get that part done.
Of course we would be called to have no ambition. With Epl so tough Only ronaldo signing can guarantee us as a strong favourites for EPL and Ucl titles give the Competiton and resurgance of top 5 teams in EPL including an impressive Pep guardiola forward line who will do anything in his power to topple us to titles. Chelsea are strong themselves and so is tottenham. Ronaldo could tilt the balance in our favour.

Also We wont need someone like perisic in that case and ronaldo is winger. Madrid may or may not sell Morata as well if he quits. Also If we are looking to buy griezmann in next summer Who would be 27 himself, Would you rather trust 5 years of super fit 5 time ballon dor ronaldo or 5 years of griezmann? Because we would need 2 players reguarless to make the forward line strong as mid and defense.

How exactly do you "communicate an irreversible decision"? Did the person he told it to cut out with a scalpel that part of Ronaldo's brain that would have been capable of reversing it?

The most logical expaination i've seen is this

1. He's been pissed about Real Madrid not giving him enough support for the tax problem after he believed he had tried to be honest with the tax man. There also seems to be some kind of beef between Ronaldo and the crowd over whistling.
2. It built from there with the announcement to the press about the fraud charges...still no real support from the club in his eyes.
3. In Portugal, by the sounds of it, he's had a massive freakout and said he's decided to never return, he blames the club for all the tax problems and basically they can all feck themselves.
4. We are now in a position where he's either cooled off about it and he will resolve it, or he's finally given all fecks and he just wants out.

Perez supposedly has a radio interview monday. I imagine we'll know more then.

That is unless this scenario is more then just the tax issue and the tax issue is the cherry on top or perhaps even an excuse. Time will tell

It would be interesting to see how long this takes to get resolved. Hes a diva, if Madrid appeal to his ego with a gesture or a boatload of money he'll stay. If he insists on leaving then Paris is a more likely destination.

In his first season at Madrid he won the Copa del Rey, finished 4 points behind Barca in the league and reached the semis of the CL (knocked out by Barca)

Given the greatness of Barca at the time, it' a bit ridiculous to proclaim his first season at Madrid as an outright failure.

One day Real Madrid will be finished with contract bs from Ronaldo and then it's no way back. Might be this summer. He is 32 and Real Madrid might want new blood.

Wasn't that his second season? Barca lost to Inter in the semis in 09-10. Madrid got knocked out by Lyon in the Round of 16.

Is Ronaldo actually becoming bigger than Real???
No. He can't really force a move. Hes 32 and has a 4 year contract with an outrageous release clause.

It's one year before a major international tournament and Messi is still just as good as him so a threat to refuse to play is likely betrayed by his ego.

He went by the name of Wayne Rooney
If he really wanted to leave, would leaking to every media outlet available be the way to have gone about it? He wants more money/support/appreciation from Madrid, and he'll get it, like he gets everything else he wants.

This time Ronaldo is overplaying his cards. I'm sure he doesn't intend to leave Madrid. Only Barca and Bayern coiuld give him a similar platform to shine and they aren't going to sign him.

I always assumed if the player puts in a transfer request you have to listen to offers?
Any club is free to reject the transfer request. The player is under contract, and as long as the club is fulfilling their part of it, the player can do one.

No, thats Manuel Pellegrini's season. He got knocked out of Copa Del Rey too by some amateurs.. He lost the title to Barca, despite having freshly joined Kaka, Ronaldo, Alonso in the squad and 96 points won.

Is it having ambition to go after a player that doesn't really want to join you and has fooled you in the past before?

It's a waste of time if that 2013 story is true

It depends on Ronaldos attitude. We could convince him to come back and be professional but it depends. Would he have re-signed 4 years ago? We'll never know. Would he now? He's achieved probably more then he could have imagined at Madrid. He might selfishly be wanting to take some limelight off Mbappe or maybe he feels if Zlatan can do it in the premiership at 36? Why can't I? United treat their players well, even the ones that are long in the tooth. Maybe he realises that the only way is down for him at Madrid. It can't get any better but then you see them looking at Mbappe and maybe Ronaldo is thinking they're already planning for the future. He's seeing players, perhaps he rates potentially leaving the club. No one knows. The sane part in people says no chance. The crazy part thinks maybe. While it's true he don't always tell the truth, if there is ever a time he will leave - it's probably now. The older you get the more sentimental you get. If you are in your 30's now and grew up in the 80's then the past probably never looked so good to you looking back. Especially when or if you feel that the respect you've given doesn't merit everything you've achieved. To be remembered as the best by future - will mean being loved by a lot of self centred selfie loving tosspots probably. That's the way the world is going. Maybe.

If He quits real madrid , than i am sure he would love to join us. He has won everything in the world there is to win in club football. he'll play where he is still happy and motivated and competing for big trophies along with the money and loved. Playing in league 1 is not much of a catch than with us.

Yeah until he really decides to quit its a waste of time , but if he quits it wont be .

Madrid have the chance next season to win the CL for a third time in a row which could elevate Ronaldo above Messi. No way he is leaving Madrid now. It's all about money/power games.

Sign Ronaldo as a wide forward on the left and Morata as our new striker. Sorted.
Hmm I thought this myself. But with the tracking back capabilities of Ronny (or lack of) I wonder what impact that would have?

If we were to start him in the "Zlatan" role I think he could score many more than Zlatan did this year and that may prove more valuable.

But like you say Ronaldo would outweigh being a luxury player and if he was on the left-wing it would probably mean that everyone else would need to work a little bit harder.

So in conclusion:
I don't know (let's just sign him and worry about that when we get to next season!!)

He has become the prima donna of the Real Madrid team. If he ever comes to United, he will have to be made as the main man. Fights and arguments will be inevitable. Loved him at United but we are not like Real who have star players in every positions to help him score in every game.

There is literally no way I see this coming through. There's too much at stake for Real to allow him to move on like this. While the club probably is a bit worried about Ronaldo declining while at Madrid, there are no signs of the onset of that decline in the next couple of years. He's their talisman and also a marketing delight - something they'd be loathe to lose. For all one says about Mbappe, he's not going to be such an attraction immediately. Lose Ronaldo and they lose massive appeal.

Also, for Ronaldo, there's the opportunity of going for a hat-trick of CL crows. Achieve that and he'd be elevated to a level that virtually nobody has enjoyed in the game. He'd hold the Euros (with Portugal at that) as well as three consecutive CLs, 4 in 5 years and 5 overall - across 2 clubs. It's a complete wet dream!

The only thing that would get him to quit Real is if the club decides that they've had enough of a player wanting to put himself over the club all the time. They may decide that this time was once too many and that they would rather be seen as "upright in the face of trouble" than "bowing to the wishes of a tax offender". In the context of this actually looking like it was indeed the club at fault for the mess, have a feeling they may weasel out a solution with the tax authorities that sees Ronaldo get off without blame while the club itself doesn't make itself look foolish. To my mind, that's the most likely outcome of this saga.

Note: I for one, really don't think this is about the money for Ronaldo; more about the image and impact on it.

Well with Ronaldo there and Morara up top, hopefully the opposing fullbacks will be too afraid to push on too much. Jose also has played a defensive LB like Darmian a lot, whose main job is to cover that flank and not be exposed. Also will mean a 433, but the problem is that we won't have the funds for Morata,Ronaldo AND a good DM since we apparently have no interest in Fabinho. (Sorry but I just don't rate Dier or Matic,I rather play Axel there.)

Are you a journalist yourself? How are you meeting these folks?

Yeah, was a journalist for 13-years...only left last year. Worked in Dublin for most of that, writing about United, so getting to know the lads on the Manchester beat then I moved to London, but was still heavily involved with United. Been a United fan since I was a kid.

I've worked both tabloid and broadsheet.

Can tell you, hand on heart, that football journalists have zero influence anymore. I think I posted about it on here before. Clubs/managers/players no longer need journalists as middle men. Media (which means 'middle') has evolved so much, that newspapers have become almost obsolete. All of these guys thinking they have 'insiders' and writing bollocks about transfers are taking daily guesses. I've taken guesses myself. It's how modern newspaper journalism goes.

I stand back and look at the tweets of people like Miguel Delaney, Neil Custis, Ducker..De Brun etc and just cringe for them. I know for certain they are all guessing.

What's always interesting is that nobody ever brings anything new to the table. Marca confirm United's interest in Morata and then - and only then - do all journalists on the Manchester beat suddenly know everything about what's going on. They didn;t know the story in the first place, but now that it looks likely to happen, they suddenly know every tiny detail...wages, fee, when he'll sign, where he'll fit into Jose's team etc...Absolute bullshitters. Last summer's falling about over Pogba was hilarious to read. It was really embarrassing for British journalists, they amount of guessing and fecking up they did was like a Laurel and Hardy movie. They got every detail of that transfer wrong all summer. British journalists don't get fed information. They have zero influence or power. They are now just a laughing stock. And take it from me; United don't leak a thing! They just don't. United are probably the most difficult football club on the planet to get any heads up from. They keep everything in-house. Football news has changed dramatically.

Years ago, if a football club wanted to inform fans of information, they would use what is called a middle man (media). They'd ring a journalist or put out a press release to sports editors and they would write a story, blah, blah, informing the fan. Now, clubs/players etc no longer need a 'middle man'...if they want news put out there to the millions of fans around the world, they can do it with the push of a button (social media, club's own website etc). A newspaper journalist is no longer needed. A newspaper journalist is obsolete. Hence, why I am now writing books and not lying to everyone else - and even myself - for a living.

Don't you all find it hilarious that nobody - not one journalist in the whole of the world - knew anything about Ronaldo yesterday morning. Then suddenly news breaks in Spain of his ambition to leave Real and suddenly EVERY journalist knows everything. Where he wants to go, how much he will cost, what he told his teammates, two hacks have even reported that Mourinho has already told people he doesn't want Ronaldo, even though Mourinho was on along-haul flight most of yesterday evening, these journalists now report that he held secret talks with PSG a month ago - yet didn't report it at the time. You couldn't make this shit up.....except they actually do! Football reporting is only one of two things these days; it's either embarrassing or funny It's nothing other than that. It can not be taking seriously.
