He's going to hold the United goal scoring record for a very long time, many decades probably.

Any details on the deal yet? Loan? Permanent move? Are we still paying half of his salary or not?
2 years I would assume is perm.

Sad to see him go, but it's the best move for all concerned. A great player in his prime. Best of luck to him for the rest of his career

It's a permanent move, he has signed a 2 year contract with them. The wage payment I don't know. I accept they've had him without a fee and will cover his reduced wage.

"Can Manchester United score? They always score"
Rooney: Winning Trophies With Blues Would Be Pinnacle
09 July 2017 13:20
“Ecstatic” Wayne Rooney declared winning silverware with his beloved Blues would be the “pinnacle” of his career after the forward sealed his emotional return to Everton Football Club.

The 31-year-old forward penned a two-year-deal with the Toffees, moving for an undisclosed fee from Manchester United, to come back to the club he has supported all his life and first joined as a nine-year-old, before rising through the Academy and becoming a first-team star from 2002-2004.

England’s all-time leading goalscorer admits putting on the Blue shirt again will be “an emotional day”.

And having enjoyed a trophy-laden 13-year career at Old Trafford – including winning the Champions League, Europa League, five Premier League titles, one FA Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup – Rooney believes helping the ambitious Blues to silverware would be extra special.

After becoming the Club’s sixth summer signing – following the arrivals of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, defender Michael Keane, midfielder Davy Klaassen and forwards Sandro Ramirez and Henry Onyekuru – an “excited” Rooney told evertontv: “(Winning trophies with Everton) would be the pinnacle. I really feel now the Club is moving in the right direction, bringing the right calibre of players in. I want to be part of it and hopefully part of a successful Everton team.

“It’s a great feeling to be back. I’m excited, I cannot wait to meet the lads, get on the training pitch and then get on the pitch to play. I’m ecstatic – I just cannot wait to get back playing.

“I’m excited, and I’m excited by the signings that the Club have made. This club is moving forward. This football club should be winning trophies and we’re taking huge steps to being involved and trying to win trophies.

“The first game back will be an emotional day for me and I’m looking forward to it. I’m not just coming back because it’s the team I support, the team I grew up playing for - I’m coming back because I feel the Club can move forward and be successful. I want to be part of it. There will be pressure on me to perform, but I’m ready to go. I believe I can help move this club forward and be more successful on the pitch.

“With the new stadium in the pipeline, it’s an exciting time to be an Everton player, to be an Everton fan. It’s on us players to make those times even more exciting by giving them good performances and try to help them be successful and bring trophies to the Club.”

Rooney became Everton’s second youngest player after Joe Royle at the time when he made his debut aged of 16 years and nine months against Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison in August 2002.

In October of that year, he was back in the record books as the Club’s then-youngest scorer – beating Tommy Lawton’s 70-year record – with a late double in a League Cup win at Wrexham. And weeks later, he grabbed worldwide attention with a stunning 25-yard injury-time winner in a 2-1 Premier League success over Arsenal at Goodison.

England’s most-capped outfield player made the switch to Manchester United in the summer of 2004. And after a successful 13-year career with the Red Devils, he spoke of how there was only one club he wanted to move to for once he discovered Everton’s interest.

“As I’ve said for the last few years, if I left Manchester United, there’s only Everton and Manchester United I’d play for - I wouldn’t play for another Premier League team,” said Rooney.

“I was true to that and I firmly meant that. I didn’t want to play for another club in England other than Everton. Once I knew Everton were interested and wanted to sign me, I made my agent aware, ‘Go and speak to them, let’s make it happen. That’s where I want to go’.”

Rooney revealed how Everton manager Ronald Koeman and Chairman Bill Kenwright played key roles in bringing him back to Goodison.

“Ronald Koeman was very influential in me coming here,” he added. “When it was obvious I was going to be leaving Manchester United this summer, Ronald came out a few times and said how much he wanted me at the Club and that had a huge impact on me. There were other options there but once I knew that Everton wanted me to come back then it was the only option for me.

“Bill obviously played a big role in it but the important one was Ronald Koeman. He was the one who picks the team and he’s the one who has his ideas on the football pitch. There were a lot more things behind the scenes which needed to happen but, for me, the important person to speak to was Ronald Koeman.

“As I spoke to Ronald and saw it in his eyes that he wanted me to be part of his team, it was a no-brainer for me and the only place I was going to go.”

Really hope he does well back home. Show those bloody pundits, the suns and daily mails you still have it, Wayne. All the best, sad day for a United fan to see the legend gone, but it could've finished in a much more bitter way.

At his best he was a brilliant player. He was also one of the most exciting signings since I started following the club. Won loads, scored loads. Hope this move works out for him.

I'm shocked that anyone thinks he can 'regain' form and start banging them in for everton. Wtf have you been watching for the last 3 years . He's completely done at this level and thankfully Everton are stupid enough to not realise it.

Best of luck to him though, was magnificent for us in probably the most exciting period for me as a United fan. Genuinely box office when he came through, and the Rooney and Ronaldo combination was deadly.

Where's the DOF?
Thank you Wayne Rooney - you have given me such joy and pride over the years that you've worn our club's shirt and you thoroughly deserve to be called 'Legend'. You're not perfect, you've made a few errors of judgement over the years it's fair to say (I suspect you've had some poor advice at times). But you have taken my breath away with your tenacity, your technique, your sheer brilliance. I was thrilled when we signed you, and it has been a privilege to watch you give your best years to this football club. Let nothing diminish your legacy pal - you delivered. Well done.

I just can't warm to Rooney since 2011 between form and shit talk.

Legend but good riddance.

I take it you're not an England fan.
No lol but I genuinely would like to see him do well. Anytime I have watched Alli I have been disappointed although his stats are amazing for a midfielder they are probably skewed somewhat by him playing as a forward. A young Rooney was electric to watch in comparison to Alli.

I'm actually a little sad. This marks the end of the amazing 2007-12 era for me.

Rooney keen to make a difference

Speaking this morning, Rooney waxed lyrical about Koeman's vision at the club, and admitted that he's extremely excited to inject some lethargy into the team's attack.

"It's a dream for me to come home. It'll be great being back and most importantly, making a difference to the team. This team has a lot of pace so it's up to me to get the ball, slow it down, and lose any momentum we have on the ball," said Rooney, adding that he's also excited to spray 40-yard passes to no one in particular.

"I know what my role is, so any time we're on a break it's my responsibility to look for the ball, take six or seven touches and essentially, let the game pass me by. I can't wait."

Harsh but true. Thankfully Everton haven't realised what everyone else could see. I'm not worried about him scoring at Old Trafford when he comes back here. He'll be contained easily.

Real sad. Around the same age as Rooney and feels like im getting older and truely the end of another era at Manchester United.

Only seemed like yesterday that him and Ronaldo were tearing up the Prem. Feeling really sentimental.

Sad to see him go but it's the right thing to do. Don't care what anyone says, of course he's a legend for the club. He's our all time record goal scorer, made over 500 appearances and won copious trophies. How can he not be considered a legend.

Amazing player back in the day. Terrible for years now and am relieved he's no longer our problem. Mourinho forced him out the club masterfully.

It doesn't shock me, there were still plenty of people on here that even a year ago didn't think there was any decline and that he was still deserving of his place in the Utd team. Every pre season we'd get the usual posters thinking that this would be the season we'd see the Old Rooney again and it never even came close to happening.

Good. It will be easier to give him deserved credit after he departed from the club and the image of out of form ageing Rooney isn't displacing his younger self in my mind. Hope he does alright there, apart from the games against United, of course.

I'd be quite excited as an Everton fan. And judging by their message board they are.

It gets their name up in lights, huge revinue influx, fans around the globe watching them to see Rooney. Plus, he may be past his best but he's still the best English player of his generation and was explosively good for them at a young age.

Apparently the sticking point was whether he could play against us next season.

Wayne wanted it written that he wouldn't play against us, but United demanded that he would.

Had his down years , but the whole team did , he was always more of a team player , not a superstar , but it is an emotional moment for me and the club as the top goalscorer of all time has been transfered and did not have the time to say a proper 'Goodbye'.

Hope we see him in good form and helps us win the title. :D

I'd be lying if I said I'm sad to see him go but I will always have fond memories of his prime. Good luck at Everton.

Seriously? The lad has been a legend for you and you are posting shit like this. Just thank him for what he has helped your club achieve, wish him luck and leave it at that. Don't go posting negative shit up about one of your best ever players.
Everyone has the right to say what they want, not everyone has to feel the same as you. Dry your eyes.

A club legend for sure but he's been absolutely dreadful the last 3 seasons. I feel bad for saying this but I'm really happy that he's gone. Such a weird situation to be honest! Last season especially I used to dread to see his name on the teamsheet. Be interesting to see what position he plays at Everton.

What makes people think he will suddenly have a 2nd wind and start playing proper football again?

Delusion obviously.

I honestly started reading that thinking it was a real quote

Yeah I'm surprised he's not said anything, probably come out later.

Edit-There you go.

Rooney's farewell

Just want to say a massive thank you to everybody at @manchesterunited. Thanks to the boards over the years, the managers and coaches I've played under, the staff I've worked with, the team mates I've played alongside, and finally the amazing fans that I've been lucky enough to have played for. Thanks for the memories!

99% sure it's a free transfer. Only thing I'm wondering about is whether we are covering some of his wages still.
