It didnt feel slow to me but I get where you are coming from. Though you have to remember that we are viewing the events as Fitz viewed them when those events occurred and his thoughts on them. As he grows, he becomes privy to more information which throws more light on the events that have already occurred.

Read all 'Realm of the Elderlings', you are not going to get dissapointed. Farseer is good, but the second trilogy in the saga is one of the best trilogies in the genre ever.

Think you have the omnibus edition. Pretty early in the Book 1, I think. Keep going...
I read the omnibus as well. It actually feels like a single book in any case.

Yeah I've read the first 3 trilogies. It's in my top 3 fantasy series' ever and Robin Hobb is quite easily my 2nd favourite author. She's brilliant.
Also my username is inspired by this series as you'll find out.

I finally got to properly sit down and read The Lies of Locke Lamora. It's been brilliant so far, I think I'm about 2/3's through it and hope to get it finished tonight, but it's been fantastic despite not being the kind of setting I usually like.
It's very good. The sequel is decent but not as good. I wasn't much of a fan of the third.
Liked both sequels to be fair, especially the third book. But they are not as good as the first book which is an all time great in the genre.

Yeah, theres basically 3 continents in Malazan, each with their own pile of characters.
You've just been introduced to the second group. So it eases off now till about the 5th book when he goes and introduces a whole new continent
Wasn't a massive fan of the third, though liked the second better than most did. I found the ending quite unsatisfactory.

I am just about finishing the first Black Company trilogy and it is quite a strange one.
Book 1 was weird due to the writing style.
Once I got used to it book 2 was really great and also had a good storyline.
Book 3 is a bit of a mess again.
Overall I quite enjoyed it but I am not too keen on reading further.
Has anybody read the Raven's Shadow series by Anthony Ryan? If so, do you recommend it?

Have read the last three, I would say that The Black Company is the best of them, followed by Witcher and Lightbringer. Lightbringer is still not finished though you can postpone it after you read the other two.
All three of them are worth it though, really good sagas.

I have. The first book is amazing, the second one is decent and the final one is arguably the worst book I have ever read (and everyone who has read it hates it, its status in asoiaf forum is similar to Fellaini's status under Moyes here).
Either do not read it at all, or stop after the first one (it was meant to be a standalone either way, so it works by itself).
Ah that's a shame, I wanted a new trilogy to get into. Maybe I'll just try and finish the WoT series again instead. Fourth times a charm!

I abandoned it about halfway through. It felt like a ham fisted allegory about being in a rock band in the 70's.
Thats what I feared it might be. I read the sample on play books and the prose didn't jump out at me, and even that had a few too many band references in it. I'll give it a miss I think.

He has read first 8-9 books of WoT as far as I remember, so it is essentially another couple of Jordan's books and then Sanderson's final three books which make the saga great again.
Took me 3 attempts at it before I finally finished it. Had to start from the beginning every time as I left so long before restarting.
The 3rd quarter of the series is a slog unfortunately but Sanderson does well (along with Jordan) in the last three books. Really saves it.
Kings of the Wyld is great! I absolutely loved it. I seem to be in a minority, however.
It doesn't start well, tbf but it's such a fun read.
I am in the same boat. I have read from the beginning 3 times now, and I've never made it to the end. And because I leave it so long between readings, when I do try and pick it back up again I always need to start from book 1.
Fortunately my last attempt at the WoT series was only a few months ago, and I made it midway through book four. So I'm just going to pick up from the start of book 4. The furthest I have progressed is book 9, but I can't remember enough of what happens to start off from there. I'm so desperate to actually finish the series, but because I tend to binge read then I just burn myself out before I get close to the last book.
Crossroads of Twilight (Book 10) is the real slog. The pace picks up after that.
So, I recently got back into Fantasy. I read The First Law and loved it. The characters are incredible and I like his sense of humour. I am now reading Rothfuss' books (I'm on the second one) and really like them. What next? For reference, I tend to prefer trilogies rather than a standalone book or a ten book series.
