A decent player but probably a personal choice... better to have Best right and Sheedy left (liked Sheedy.... liked all the EFC mid 80s team) give two different styles.

I'd do a Welsh United XI but it would be cack though we'd have a good forward line .... and Clayton Blackmore as a 1-man defence.

yap, similar scenario like to Gazza case will be needed to make a comeback. Probably my most enjoyful time in drafts while i was doing those gifs for Gazza :)

There's excellent quality in reserve in the midfield area, with the likes of Ray Houghton, Ronnie Whelan and Sammy McIlroy deserving a mention. There's plenty in reserve in the creative wide areas too: Steve Heighway (37th in the latest Scouse list of '100 Players Who Shook The Kop'), the wonderfully talented Billy Whelnan who died in the Munich Disaster, and going much further back the highly-regarded Celtic star Patsy Gallacher.

I've been typing this whilst cooking dinner so I'm probably missing someone blatantly obvious, but the only one that springs to mind is John Aldridge, who does deserve a mention but he can feck off as he's a knob.

Good stuff. I'd be minded to go with your second team there but probably plump for Keane up top in recognition of his ridiculous goalscoring haul for the south. Quite like Brady in that inside-left gig, drifting inside to link up play.

Yeah. Even going by the way physio has done his time periods, I think you can set a distinct era in English football from the end of the World Cup winning generation to the Premiership era. So basically the 1970s and 1980s, and being specific something like 1972 to 1992. For me that's a distinct era for British and Irish football as well, with Scottish, Welsh and Irish (north and south) players having fairly key roles in the best teams. You can even see a clear line in the sand for Scottish football which did so well in the 1960s and renewed itself with the new firm to be competitive again in Europe in the 1980s.

Sounds good... this draft has shown there was more depth than maybe first looked likely. I think a pre Prem League one would show the same.

I mean, yes of course. completely agree. :lol:

But yeah, only the caf promotes the tournament model throughout and the reason behind that is people always been up and active to have those discussions and get into detailed discussions regularly. Most other forums just aren't that serious about what is an internet game and prefer it mostly as a means to kill time at work. Given my addiction I'm up for whatever usually.

I meant British football particularly and a subtle dig at the era dominated by Liverpool. :p

Really though, as far as British top flight footie goes that was definitely not exactly the most glamorous or exciting of periods. Obviously I'm biased as it's a grim period for United and a Liverpool/Forest/Villa fan will tell you otherwise. But you can ask the casual fan to name 5 players from the Ajax/Bayern/Juve sides who dominated Europe around then and then ask the same for the Forest and Villa sides that won European Cups and there'll be a bit of a disparity. There's little interest in those teams despite the fact that one of them won the European Cup back to back as compared to the Italians/Germans etc which is quite representative of their quality. Sacchi's Milan or Michels' Ajax teams are talked about when comparing the greatest club sides, for example when we were putting Pep's Bara in an all time context but no one would touch those Villa or Forest sides with a barge pole from a mile away while talking about the greatest sides ever.

FWIW Liverpool definitely shine out of what was a dull batch, and produced players that are a tad underrated and wouldn't be out of place in an all time context - someone like Graeme Souness is up there with the greatest CMs ever. That's sorta it, though.

I can understand if you grew up between all that and can still see the romance in some of those moments but forgive me for not spending an evening watching a Notts Forest game from the early 80s First Division or researching that much about that bunch, it isn't really that exciting even for someone who's spend a big chunk of his last decade reading about anything football.
