I think the one player who surprised me today was Miki. He was consistently on point with his running and passing (compared to other matches). On the other hand, Mata and Rashford were underwhelming. And for some reason I feel Lukaku's problem is not his first touch but his second touch.
Our two CBs and Matic were superb, and Young proved that he deserves his place on the left wing there.
Really??

City will spank us if we play against them like that. Chelsea and even Liverpool too for that matter.
We stopped City and their place last season, we stopped Liverpool at their place last season and we beat Chelsea at our place and I would say we are a better side now. Jose unlike Klopp is tactically flexible depending on the game and situations within a game.

6 games 5 wins, tough fixture out the way and a weekend closer to Pog coming back, that is all

"Abysmal, terrible, cowardly."

People have the memory span of a goldfish.
The performance in the second half was abysmal, there really is no two ways about it. It was the worst we have played this season and we are capable of much better.

EDIT: to go from such a good first half, to that in the second half is bemusing and could have only been a tactic.

I think it's fair to say Utd miss Pogba.

Game looked perfectly under control in the first half even if it seemed pedestrian. After the break Mkhitaryan and Mata barely got a look in but I personally think the weakest link was Fellaini. He did some good things but I wasn't a massive fan of his positioning and he offered absolutely no composure on the ball. No Pogba seems to indicate no midfield outlet and nobody to dictate play. As soon as a team builds up pressure it seems difficult to relieve it. Bailly and Jones were excellent in the centre and Rashford put in a decent stint as a second left back.

Backs to the wall win, Pogba can't come back soon enough.

I think Pogba maybe back sooner rather than later.
Yep, me too.
The more Jose says things like "No idea" to the question of how long, the more you suspect he'll be back nicely for Liverpool after the int break. One of the few times that 2 weeks helps.

Hardly his fault.
Many of the forward players didn’t play well today. We were leading 1-0. It’s better to protect that lead than to go on searching for more goals and then got pegged back.

The officiating was horrendous. Jose must have sensed Pawson wasn’t going to give us any 50-50 decision. It’s better to be safe than sorry. We miss Pogba in that midfield. Lemina destroyed our midfield.....and the golden chance Herrera had at the death, he skied it.

We got the 3 points anyways!
I honestly don't give a feck, just saying that it's engrained in him forever. Not a real issue if the results are there.

wut? he was shocking to the point I'm thinking it was his worst performance for us.
I'd agree. Mkhitaryan is incredibly frustrating. Floats in and out of the game hardly affecting it, then he scores or gets an assist out of no where. He's quickly becoming our Özil.

Oh, and that ref is a cnut - absolute joke of a performance.
Would love to see him explain how Mkhitaryan getting bulled over in the box is not a foul but Lukaku with a slight hand push is a foul on someone whose momentum took him over more than the push.

Or how trying to get free from someone pulling on your shirt is a foul on you

A win away at Southampton is always a great result. They are a tough team to play. 6 games and 16 points is a brilliant start to the season. I'm happy

Nerve racking 90 minutes. Im delighted with the result, overall i think we were better for it. I thought we'd piss it up after Ander skyed that chance.

Good result against a good side away from home. 7 matches in 22 days? Can't be overly arsed about the way we play. Only about the results. Season management.

To be fair, defenders always seem to get extra help. Jones must have gone down easily 3-4 times with a little contact to buy fouls. We didn't moan then

We won, and we should have won by more. Two nil at worst. They had a lot of the ball in the second half and pressured but how many clear cut chances did they actually create? Compare and contrast with the shit we saw served up just two seasons back.

France - can't win anything with Swedish turnips
Started first half slowly but played reasonably well for the rest of the half.

Started second half even more slowly and never got going at all.

Kept giving the ball away, making wrong choices - Mkhi Mata and Rashford were not near their usual standard.

I'd give Jones MOM - hardy warrior

Our worst performance of the season but we won so will take that.

Bit surprised by the overwhelmingly negative attitudes. We won a difficult away game and kept a clean sheet despite performing poorly.

Clear cut I'm not sure, but they had a ball whistle past the post by about an inch and Fellaini cleared one off the line if I'm not mistaken?

They should be made to explain contentious decisions - part of the reason the standard is poor is because they have complete freedom to make a decision with pretty much complete impunity. That foul on Fellaini that he didn't give after dishing out yellow cards like sweets to us was ridiculous.

Rooney's ball and van Persie's volley.
I can't say I loved the performance today, obviously, but the grit and defensive work was real good to see. We would be requiring such performances over the course of the season, and to be frank, it seemed like Jose wanted us to play that way in a manner, like a training session of some sort. Never really felt threatened after the break apart from Lukaku's shot, but never really bothered either.

I'm pleased.

The talk all week was flattering to deceive and about scoring four per game. Hard fought wins are always going to be slated after such talk

Somewhere they can't find me.
We won plenty of league titles with games like that in the season. Goods 3 points. Forget about it and enjoy your saturday night, hopefully with a Leicester win.
Can't remember being outclassed for almost an entire half when we were running the show under SAF. Sure, we had bad performances and teams occasionally outplayed us, but our reaction to such a situation should be trying to regain control rather than bring on 2 additional CBs. But I agree its too much to get worked up over this and better to be contend with the 3 points. And maybe Leicester will provide the entertainment instead.

Off the line is an exaggeration, I think. Looked like De Gea had it covered. The other was a shot that didn't hit the target. Compare to the Lukaku chance, and Herrera (in our abysmal second half).

This was always a difficult game and the result is all that matters. I'm happy.

City are going to run away with the title though :(

By luck and no other reason. I bet you had similar response to anyone who complained during moyes or lvg reign.
You think the only reason we scored and kept a clean sheet was luck? Seriously some of our fans are ridiculous

You forgot to mention how many times those game raising cnuts have done or have almost done us over in the last few seasons. Playing your cup final is hardly the same as Wolves coming to town. Performances like these are those of champions elect.

You didn't miss much, nicked a goal first half and then decided to take the 1-0 in the second.
Cheers bud. Was keeping an eye on the commentary on LiveScore and it didn't look overly exhilarating. Delighted with the 3 points though, I went with 1-1 on here.

Do you think the fact they have underperformed so far might mean that they were extra determined today? They are a much better side than their performances have shown so far this season and this game was like a cup final to them. At the end of the day we won with a clean sheet, away from home to a good side. Calm down.

During Ferguson's last season there was an away match where Pochettino's Southampton pressed us to death in the second half. Barely made it out of there with a win.

We will see, I am more annoyed with how defensive we got in the second half. Doubt any other big side will play in a similar manner and it will cost us in the future.

Who cares? The important bit is the three points.

Why watch?

It was abysmal, do you think otherwise? That second half will not be considered anything other than shocking from us just because we had a couple of good chances. Take your blinkers off pal and call it how it is.

I'm more than happy with the 3 points, I'll take and like I said, we were great in the first half, but I'm sorry you are not going to argue a case for us in that second half with me pal, nah.
