ALaLiga return could be on the cards for Thibaut Courtois in the future, as he has still yet to renew his Chelsea contract.

The Belgian goalkeeper hasn't given up on the idea of going back to Spain and specifically the city of Madrid.

On June 30, 2019, the former Atletico Madrid man's contract expires and his plan at present is not to commit his future to the Blues as he awaits a potential call from Real Madrid, a team who he has had contact with recently.

Although he is happy in England and at Stamford Bridge, proud to play for a team who took a chance on him when he was just a youngster, he believes that at this point in his career, his time in the Premier League may be coming to an end.

In addition, personal matters mean that a return to Spain would be his preferred next career move, although the Blues will not want to lose a man who is rightly considered among the world's top five goalkeepers at present.

Roman Abramovich will fight to keep him at the club but others in power at Chelsea know that the player's priority in the not too distant future is Real.

For their part, Los Blancos' management are happy with the work of Keylor Navas and have great trust in the 30-year-old but are also looking for consistency in that position for the future.

At 25 years old, Courtois fits in perfectly with that line of thinking and has the perfect mix of talent, youth and experience.

The other big candidate to move to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu is, of course, the man who has been discussed for a very long time, David de Gea.

The Manchester United man has already received an offer from the club to renew his contract beyond June 2019 and could be motivated to remain given the project currently in place at Old Trafford.

A move for Jan Oblak looks unlikely given his loyalty to Atletico Madrid and if he is to depart, Paris Saint-Germain seem best placed to lure him away from the Rojiblancos, who face an uphill struggle in getting the Slovenian to sign a new deal.

Faced with this situation, Courtois will continue to wait and even confessed on a recent visit to the Spanish capital that "I hope to return soon."

Most english papers are running with it too quoting Marca as their source. Could it be DDG has told madrid he is staying at united and they have shifted attention to Courtois. Maybe they think Courtois would be a cheaper option with DDG having more numbers on his contract an united asking world record fees for him.
Chelsea have no option to extend courtois contract and may not want to lose him on a free.

No better than what they have.

That will be great. Weaken Chelsea and kill DDG rumors each summer.

They'd get Oblak. Lucky cnuts, that potentially a potential upgrade on Courtois would be available at the same time. When De Gea wanted to leave us, we were left scraping the bottom of the barrel with the likes of Cillesen.

As I remember we were getting Navas instead of De Gea in that summer.

If they get Oblak so yeah they won't be affected much.

Marcia mouthpiece for Madrid again... write what they want and English papers quote them because it's a quick clickbait piece for them and even better, they didn't even have to find it, just copy/quote it.

6 months ago, they said Real were determined to buy De Gea in the Summer.

Print enough rubbish and some of it will (coincidentally) be right.

It really seems Madrid will never be willing to actually spend a decent sum for a keeper.

Marca just flirting on Madrid's behalf as usual. Doubt there's much to it.

Would be great news for us though. It wouldn't kill the De Gea rumours forever - nothing will, as long as he continues to be the best in the world - but it would probably buy us at least a season or two without having to worry about them coming for him again.

fully endorse this transfer

Great keeper for Madrid

Courtois goes to the second biggest club in the world and a city he knows well

Dave saves and Dave stays

I think he's off if Madrid call. Chelsea would be willing to sell and won't let him run down his contract.

If it is on a free transfer this deal will happen... no need to have a fax message between Chelsea and Madrid right?

Keylor Navas is disgustingly underrated. If I'm Madrid, I don't see the point in replacing a keeper you've won 3 Champions League's with.

I've noticed he's prone to an error every few games but it also capable of the extraordinary too. Definitely not a bad keeper but I think the appeal for Madrid and their fans is that DDG is quite obviously going to be Spain's No.1 Keeper for the next 10 years+ and had that with Iker Casillas for all those years also.

I think he's more dependent on cat-like reflexes (which will diminish with age) than most keepers, but still has several seasons left at RM's level. I think they'll nab Donnaruma in a few years.

Psg want oblak as well since long.

Depends if Madrid will be willing to pay up on his silly wage demands. Apparently already on £120k and looking for £200k. Chelsea stopped negotiations a couple of months back so if Real pay up around £25m and his wage demands then he is good as gone.

On the other side, his transfer fees plus some savings on the wages might allow Chelsea a budged of £35m-40m for the new keeper. Pretty much every keeper outside of the top 5 clubs will be available. Great deal for all concerned.

If his contract expires on 2019 then Madrid will have good chance of signing him.

Yep, somehow Chelsea always seem to get the better deal. Even now, Morata could arguably turn out to be better than Costa.

Oblak will go to PSG but it's great that Courtois has a contract expiring in 2019, Madrid's interest in him has been longstanding.

Pressure tactics of madrid to keep de gea and courtois in the loop to see who blinks first. Their main target will remain de gea.

Come on Madrid get him, he would be perfect for you.

I approve of this.

Oh darn. Just when I thought Madrid were insistent on taking that carthorse De Gea from us, and we could get the vastly superior Keylor Navas in return. Why must football be so cruel?

Perez reads this place, right?

We hear this almost as much as we hear about DDG joining them!

I think a lot depends on what happens this summer. Being that De Gea is probably the best GK in the world right now, looking like Spain's incumbent for the next decade or so and there's always been whispers about his missus wanting him to go back to Madrid, I would expect that Real might at least try and test United's resolve one more time. But he seems loyal, United won't want to sell and Real might not want to stump up a huge amount of cash for a 'keeper.

If Milan don't qualify for the CL, perhaps Donnarumma might end up going and Real will be high on the list of suitors you'd think (that said, I've heard he's been a bit shit so far this season). PSG might come in for Oblak as well, which might end up meaning Courtois back to Atletico possibly instead?

If Real get a new 'keeper soon who isn't De Gea (Courtois, Donnarumma) then I could see Dave staying here for the best part of the next 10 years and then retiring at Atletico. If we don't go back to being completely shit.

Please let this be true. Will send Real Madrid a fax machine as a gift.

Probably. And they managed to sell 29 year old Costa, who was out of the squad and everything, for almost the same price that they bought 24 year old Morata for. Chelsea often do some good business :(

It depends. Donnarumma yes, maybe. But the vast majority of keepers, even very good ones like Courtois, are always going to be less of a prize than De Gea no matter how well they do. He's the best in the world, Spanish, the Spain #1... he's the ultimate trophy for Madrid. After all, Navas is doing very well for them but it doesn't mean they wouldn't drop him in a second if they could get their hands on Dave. And I think that would be true for almost any keeper in the world bar maybe Donnarumma (provided he continues to fulfil his potential), Oblak or Neuer.

Which isn't to say they could definitely get De Gea. If we continue on our upward trajectory I agree we might very well keep him until much later in his career. If we don't, he'll be off one day. It must play on his mind at least a little that he could be a double CL winner by now if he'd gone to Madrid when they first started pursuing him.
