There is absolutely no justification in calling for Mourinho's head

Most people aren't calling for his head from what I've seen. I'm far from that. But there are MANY reasons to be upset with him or criticize him. He's useless at creating attacking play, which most people knew. He buys players who are effective up top and then organizes a defence and gets results. But what happens when you don't get that success that you seemingly sacrificed the play for? Upset fans is one.
Yes there are many reasons to criticise him. I started a thread recently (now locked which is a shame as it had some brilliant discourse) asking if what we feated about Jose was coming true. But that doesn't mean that we sack him! Unfortunately some people would rather be proven right about Mourinho than see their club improve. (Some would also rather Mourinho got relegated than see their manager questioned, but that's for another thread)

Who is calling for his head? I am probably the most negative in regards to Mourinho and even I am not really calling for his.
I don't think it'll be long before a sack - watch thread is created and a few will already be eager to do so.

On paper, you're absolutely correct. The issue for me is what appears to be happening and how much confidence we can have when looking at the bigger picture, beyond just results.

You can make the argument that by allowing a manager to dig his own grave, to force a sacking, you have allowed the situation to continue to a point where needless damage has been done.

It's all a matter of judgment of course.

Stop it. You're making us look bad.

The last month has been poor for us. That's fair enough to think and reflect on. But the amount of posts that are calling for his head or saying Mourinho is a "dinosaur" is ridiculous.

We are still second in the league. We've qualified a tricky CL group.

We don't get anywhere by sacking a manager at this point, we don't get anywhere by starting all over again.

Think of where we have been over the last few years. Think of some of the lows you've had as United fans. A 1-0 loss at Stamford Bridge isn't that bad in reflection. We want to be better, but we're not a million miles away.
You were the one starting threads slating him just recently.

Pick a side.

Last thing we need is another managerial change. We need some stability, and while we don't exactly look like would-be league winners today, generally we look more like contenders these days than at any point since Fergie left. Short of a total collapse, Mourinho deserves the rest of this season and next to show what he can do.
I hope so too.

We desperately need stability.

Something drastic would need to happen for that to happen. The Van Gaal threads started when we knocked out of the CL and then lost like three league matches in a row.

I don’t pick a side. That’s why i wind some people up, I look at things from a variety of angles. I just think you support your manager. But you can still question him.

Yeah maybe my memory is failing me but I thought it was for less than that.

Managerial tactics are killing us.
City, Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea play one way. They attack in their own style, and it is down to other teams to stop them. We seem to play according to how Mourinho feels on the day, and the players look totally bloody confused.
When you look at our lineup, its fantastic, and yet we play like headless chickens when up against a decent team. I think it is Mourinho's ego that causes him to dictate the game so that we try to come away with three points but only just, so that he can take all the credit for a difficult win. We have a very attacking looking team, but we don't allow the players to express themselves to their full attacking potential.

Mourinho won't be sacked I don't think, even if we don't make top 4, but I don't like the guy. I never have, and I was against his appointment right from the very beginning because of his boring anti football tactics.

That's definitely not you, right ? Either someone else is using your account or that's supposed to be sarcasm ( which isn't a good one if it's true ).

You really don't do that.

For some reason you have never taken a liking to Mourinho and it's shown.

Which isn't a problem per se. Just bloody hypocrisy when you consider your stance on David Moyes and LVG.

It's hard to take someone like that seriously.

I wouldn't go as far as to say I'm calling for his head. However, I can't say I'd be excited by the thought of going into another season with him as manager. I know plenty that share that opinion too.

His football is ugly. He's all about results, I hate that. I really wish we bring in someone who will have us play 'modern, attractive, attacking' football we all want to see at United.
To make things worse, just have a look at City. We'd all drool if we played like they do.

God knows why people are calling for his head. Yes his football isn't the greatest but I'd rather win trophies instead of losing 4-3

We haven't played attractive attacking football in probably around 10 years apart from that spell of the Cleverly/Anderson MF in 2011.

Don't think anyone is 'calling' for his head as such. He does need to have a re-think though on how he's setting us up etc, and perhaps to add someone else to his team so that he has a different perspective on the game. He's always with the same backroom team, sometimes you need to freshen things up a bit.
I'd hope he could take this break to just look at things objectively.

In the meantime, he needs to forget about getting a pay rise and stop leaking shite to his friend Duncan.

If we finish outside the top four again and without any other obvious signs of progress, then I’d be loathe to give him another. And I wouldn’t be sad to see the back of him. At all.

But yeah, talk of sacking him right now is crazy. Obviously.

Is it too obvious?

Or is it brilliant?

I'm torn. Considering starting a new thread to gauge people's opinions on the subject:

«Is Wumm a genuinely good wum - or is he flattering to deceive?»

Can you just stick to your top 50!united players threads? Those were great, maybe bump it in a year or so.

I meant to do one again for general football players this year but had a massive nightmare in terms of my personal life and time I could spend on nonsense like that. I’ll do a united one this summer.

Seriously fans are calling for his head. Do they not realise what a state this club was in when he joined?

While days like today are frustrating, he’s only been at the job just over a year, he’s still having to field some sub standard players that he inherited.

As it stands we’re second in the league and as good as qualified for the knockout stage of the CL.

Yes he has had to resort to some defensive tactics during a central midfield injury crises.

Judge the guy at the end of the season.
Too much sense in space of one post, my head will explode after the drivel I've had to read tonight.

Trust the guy to rebuild the current squad, City threw on Jesus and Bernardo Silva earlier in the day to put distance between them and Arsenal while 2 of 3 Mourinho's game changer were Fellaini and Lingard. Sums it up for me afaik.
There's too much dross which has been accumulated over the course of 4 years thanks to our hiring and firing policy, sacking Mou and hiring a new manager would only put us into a position we were in May of 2016. Feck knows why anyone would want that.

Tricky group, good grief.
Well, to be fair we've had groups as easy in the past under LVG and under Fergie (when Basel knocked us out) and made a mess of them, Mourinho has done everything he could do in Europe this season. I agree tho with the OP that its way over the top to be calling for Mourinho's head, we'll be fine, it's extremely childish and petulant to want the manager to be sacked after a bad result or two, especially when you look how well we actually have done this season so far.

I am not criticising Mourinho for our CL campaign, but calling this a tricky group is stretching it.

Were the Europa League and League Cup fakes or something? I'd say most United supporters would rather win them than nothing.
Ofcourse, but the Europa League and League Cup arent really the trophies United should be competing for long term right? I think the club's vision is to compete in Premier League and CL long term, which will take time obviously.

I think let him play out the current 3 year contract and if there's no movement towards genuine title challengers in the final year, move on; particularly if we're looking for a long term manager to do a decade, if this is even a thing anymore that is.

There are still a significant number of average players that need to be replaced, so another Summer window seems fair enough for Mou.

Moyes and LVG were dinosaurs, jury is still out on Mou but it may be that his time is coming to an end as an elite manager.

Personally I can see him leaving/being sacked in the 2018/19 season anyway. I don't think he can convince the typical modern player that his way is the best way.

I couldn’t tell you what type of football we play. Every other big team seems to have a style, we don’t. You could say we lack a ‘philosophy’

A lot of our players try really hard but go missing far too easily, particularly in games like these. It often feels like we’re trying to wade through treacle.

Our style is to first and foremost nullify the opposition attacking threat, frustrate them and hit on a counter. With a striker who could actually hold the ball up, and a LW and RW who could get in behind instead of cutting inside, it would be a remarkably effective method.

Looking at the positives: at least its not as shit as his last season at Chelsea. That's something I suppose.

You're right, there isn't. But the grass is always greener and if we hired Pochettino or whoever they would definitely have this side running away with the league by 15 points, until he didn't at which point a lot of people would see the solution as sacking him after 18 months and hiring the next flavour of the month.
Poch wouldn't come here at the moment, he has already said he wouldn't go to Real and he is enjoying it at Spurs. We need to get all the injured players back and go from there. We will have a really strong bench then and hope Jose just gets his tactics per game right. He might not have got them wrong today, if we had defended the ball to Morata properly, they should have been ready for what was coming as it has been used by Chelsea before.

We are 4 points ahead of Liverpool who are shit this season, one more loss or draw and we are back to last season disaster, fighting for top 4 finish AGAIN. We need a lot of things to improve, Jose looked like lost some concentration after pool game, he can't do that, suddenly we became awful to watch, his responsibility, and yes of course the team have some awful players some of them can't play for us we can't win the P.L with them. Lots of work and lots of millions Again.
