What a mind bogglingly stupid thing for a ref/ex-ref to say. He has basically undermined all refs ever, by saying they DO go into games with pre-determined views on how things will go. His performance was unfair to Spurs because he effectively went in with the mindset that they would lose the title, and it was unfair to Chelsea because he refused to protect their players. I have zero truck with this nonsense idea that you don't want "refs to ruin the game". It's not the ref's job to make the game exciting. If the game is boring, so be it.

So what if Spurs had won, despite the fact they should have been down to 8 men? Would his plan have worked then? Arrogant fool.

 Moron. If he'd reffed the game properly some would have moaned at the time but any grumbles would have been forgotten about by all but the most rabid of spurs fans. Now his reputation is permanently muddied by this crap.

Hating on Clats aside, this is a funny quote by him:
"I still smile at the first time I came across Roy Keane in 2004. He screamed at us for a corner and I'm sure it was a goal kick but because he screamed at us so loudly, I gave a corner, I was that petrified of him."

  newsflash idiot, part of being amongst the most elite professionals in your field is to deal with exactly those things it's basically the Job description

Next up: world class paediatric heart surgeon to quit after patients mum tells him his technique is outdated.

Another piece of shit weak referee, just like this idiot Oliver who will dominate Mondays headlines. Should be ashamed of everything he's said in this.

Becoming more of a celebrity ref than Graham Poll, they think everyone has gone to watch them.

It could open up a can of worms in the game but Chelsea should definitely sue him for the cost of the fine. He basically admitted to affecting the outcome of a game for his own benefit and it doesn't have to be money involved for narcissistic people to cheat and lie. This admission calls in to question every game he has ever officiated. I knew he was a dodgy cnut and I would never call anybody out in public to their face but if I came across this prick I would let him know it. He is a disgrace and for the good of the league action should be taken and refs should be held to account. This is proof that something is off in refereeing as I seriously doubt he is the only one who thinks like this if he can admit it freely like he does it means they have no fear of consequences.

I wish Chelsea would take this up and sue him or at least complain to FA. The media are letting him go way too easily. This kind of referee coming out with a game plan to screw another team should be punished heavily, with a minimum punishment of ban.
I am not surprised that FA is not looking into it with much interest. They always have their priorities wrong.

I'm pretty sure this is the definition of match fixing, he should be banned from refereeing the game, I wonder how many people bet on a certain number of red/yellow cards that day?
You mean besides Clattenburg himself?

It would be interesting to give all refs a lie detector test and see just how many have made calls (or ignored them) because of similar thoughts/ideologies to MC... If their being honest (thus the need for the LD testing equipment), I would personally be shocked if the number was less than 75% that have done something like this. Not necessarily from a gambling conspiracy, just from regular human biases (love/hate the team, love/hate a player).

Had big issues after an Everton Liverpool game he reffed. Sent a couple of Everton players off, failed to send of kuyt for what was more a flying kick than a tackle and failed to give Everton a clear last minute penalty. Moyes pretty much implied he'd said something wrong either in the tunnel afterwards or to Stephen gerrard as he was sending an Everton player off. We didn't see him ref another Everton game for literally years. Apparently he'd spent pre season with the Liverpool team was on first name terms with them and had requested and received signed shirts. Dodgy, self obsorbed and a bang average ref too

Refereeing in football is all wrong. They should never be the main talking point but often are. Firstly they have too much influence on a game. Technology should cut out the majority of errors they make. Secondly there should be a zero tolerance on abuse and cheating. But I guess that wouldn't go down well because the younger generation have grown up with football being a farce and would miss the theatrics.

Always been very obvious that the vast majority of refs consider themselves scriptwriters and that if they feel a match should go a certain way, they’ll assist in making it happen.

This is most apparent when it comes to deciding on the amount of injury time. They’d rather the better team won on their own but will hand out another 5 minutes to score the winner if need be.

Is it the reffing that is wrong or the rules? IMHO there are to many grey areas in football where interpretation is required and this is the main reasons why a ref will never win. Football is a game where cheating is rife and due to its fast paced nature is very difficult to have a hard and fast set of rules.

Refs are only human and will always be the first blame for the majority of clubs. Players can make mistakes but refs cant and with more and more technology in the game these mistakes are highlighted more.

The game was a much better spectacle in my opinion and was great - that is what a football match should be like.

Just seen that Rafael/Vardy penalty decision again. Absolutely criminal. Hearing how he approached games, I think the cnut stage managed the whole thing.

"not that type of girl" - every homewrecker.

I've never been with a girl who hasn't searched me on social media, yet this girl wants us to believe that she was with him for months being none the wiser?

Back on topic, this guy is a right cnut!

First of all it was a most obvious barge that no genuine neutral wouldn't have given as a foul against Vardy. He literally smashed Rafael to the floor.

Then he, and if we're honest, most of us presumed Rafael had fouled him, as we saw him steaming in and thought the worst. It was only one the replay we realised it was conman work from Vardy.

That game was such a killer, as upto then we were playing open exciting football, but once you've shipped 5, not unreasonably you question things, and we went super dull after that.
