My only issue with his loan is going to Spain. Should have gone to a team like Palace or Newcastle to adapt to the Premier League.
What does adapting to garbage football at Palace have to do with playing for Manchester United? There are zero similarities in our play and barely getting to attack in a horrible team is hardly what he needs. He already did a year at Granada. Valencia are a good team who attack and play good football. Football conducive to the type of football he'd play at United. There is a hell of a lot more in common of playing at Valencia and United than CP and United.

My one worry is he plays a winger sort of role for the Spanish teams both at Granada and Valencia. But he'll be mostly played at midfield when he returns to United. So how is he going to learn to play midfield. He might become the sort of player who can play a number of positions but never excels in any.

Modric started out playing out wide.

Game time > position.

True. Just worried he won't be able to adjust to a central role later on in his career.
IMHO, if he is a really talented player, and United's standard one, he won't have any problem dealing with that, provided he is given the game time.

Started and got an assist for the first goal as well. Started on the right of midfield.
Doing alright in a team playing really well too.
Finally a good loan move for a player.. Hope he gets a chance with us.

I’ve always wondered, what’s with the tag line?

As opposed to his loan move last season? TBH he'd probably have featured plenty for United if he'd have stayed and fought for a place.

Watched the valencia game today and couldn‘t help but compare him to Mkhi. Very solid on the ball and good vision and delivery for the goal and the cross that caused the penalty. Really frustrating cause he could have easily displaced both mata and mkhi for AM/RM role

Got an 8.0 rating and MOTM at WhoScored. Hopefully will get more chances now.

Seems like he could well be recalled in Jan, even if he doesn’t want to. As others have said I could see him getting in that team ahead of Mkhi.

I am hoping we are calling Pereira back from loan next week. At least a player who can whip in a decent cross and take set pieces.
Would have been highly usefull in a game like the one from yesterday. Much better in his movement and passing in short spaces than some others we are currently playing.

The lad deserves a chance. Can play on many positions and did very well in the pre season.

Would be a good 'signing' for the second half of the season as he brings some specific qualities we are lacking in the squad.

I hope we do too. More to play as a deep-lying playmaker, though.

Mourinho seemed to play him at the base of midfield quite often during pre season, where he did pretty well.

For me, he should never have gone on loan and I am glad he is doing well, 2nd season he is doing well in Spain.

If he stayed, I doubt Jose would have used him as Jose is pretty useless with youth tbh. I agree, like many this guy needs to come back and play for us, just wary that Jose will persist with what we have (then whinge non stop about investment)

He'd do well RW or CM/AM for us currently. Mata/Herrera are having shockers, Miki cant buy a game, Pogba is in and out of form and Matic is over worked. Mctominay is young and used very sparingly. There is deffo room for Pereira in our team.

I think the general idea is schooling players in positions so they understand what the position needs in terms of service. Scholsey broke onto the scene at United as a forward. Rio Ferdinand was a forward in his youth days.

I used to think that but its hard to say given his use of younger players here.

I wouldn't mind seeing him next to Pogba with Matic dropping back to CB in matches against the weaker opponents. Or at RW with Mata as CAM. Many options with Pereira and he deserves a chance. Send McTominay on loan, get Pereira back and see what happens. I feel he would do a much better job at providing Lukaku with decents balls than our current wingers are doing.

He has no choice but to play Rashford/Martial/Lindelof here as he simply has no other option. All his other signings bar Lindelof have been more experienced. He is using other managers signings, not his own.

And I believe Jose is poor with youth as he doesn't improve players.

If anything, the likes of Martial/Rashford have declined under Jose. He's shipped TFM out as well as Periera and slated Shaw so much its a miracle he's still here.

I see absolutely no evidence that jose can coach and improve youngsters. He is very wenger like in this regard, players stay at the same level or decline.

Look at the signing of Matic, Ibra, Miki, all experienced players. Even lukaku despite his young age has a wealth of P/L experience. Even jose's targets of perisic and Griezmann, none of which are young.

Name a young player jose has improved at utd?

Disagree we should use Matic as CB. We have pretty good options there, and can do without using our best CDM/CM as a CB in truth. Midfield we are light, lets not complicate things by playing even more players out of position needlessly.

I'd argue based on form if we go for a midfield 2, Matic should stay in the team ahead of Pogba

Don't think that's the best position for him. The only thing he brings to that position is a level of press-resistance, Matic has that aswell but with added physicality. I don't think that his passing is good enough yet for the DPL-role, he's better at dribbling and crossing and would serve better further up the field.

He'd be best as the third midfielder in a 433 or as a #10/RW in 4231. Nobody's nailed down any of those positions as of yet, so if we recall him it would be for one of those. A midfield trio of him, Matic and Pogba could be quite good.

Pereira's expected goals stats don't look that amazing to me. He is finishing chances at a better rate than expected, and his team mates are finishing the chances he creates at a better rate than average. The problem is he isn't creating much and he isn't taking shots from positions where he would have a decent chance of scoring.

His xG per 90 mins is 0.07 and his xA per 90 mins is 0.19. Last season his xG per 90 + xA per 90 also added up to 0.26, though the expected goals figure was slightly higher and the expected assists a bit lower. Last season he was averaging one more shot per game.

For context, Januzaj's respective numbers are xG per 90 0.50 and xA per 90 mins is 0.29 I suppose Adnan playing wide right of an attacking 3, will get more attacking opportunities than Andreas playing right/left of a 4 man midfield.

weird post...

In other news Valencia have had their usual dip after leading la liga. 2 losses in a row but with Andreas starting both. In the first of those matches he had a poor outing, but the 2nd match he had a decent performance. He gave the ball away too much but was still one of Valencia's better players in a disappointing performance. It should be enough to see him continue to start matches.

Soler, who we were linked to with a big money move has had a worse time of it. He's been performing poorly for a while and Ander is rightly getting some chances instead of him.

I like Andreas Pereira but at PL level, what type of player is he ?

He gives the ball away a lot (pass completion 68% this season - which would be acceptable if he was creating tons of high quality chances but his xA stats suggest he isn't). He doesn't possess the physicality to dominate central midfield. To date, the vast majority of his shots have been long range, low percentage attempts. Averaging just under 1 interception per 90 mins.

I think you could try him in Mata's role, but whether he would be a huge improvement seems questionable at this stage.

If you use Pereira in a 3 man midfield, how on earth are you going to make up for the 0.84 xG90 + xA90 that Lingard is currently giving us ? Lingard's movement when playing centrally appears to be worth quite a lot at PL level.

I'm convinced many of you hoping he comes back to start in midfield have barely watched him. He's so far off being able to start in central midfield for us. The teams he's been loaned to consistently play him out wide but for some reason he'll come to United and play in midfield :houllier:

He's really not as good as some of you think. I'll actually be surprised if he makes it here.

He’s better than some of our options. He will be a wonderful addition cos he can cross the ball and he’s an experienced set piece taker. Some of the corners we have taken this season has been a disgrace.

Pereira will suit a 4-3-3 system with Matic at the base, Pereira on the right and Pogba on the left. If Mourinho wants to finish strongly in this second half of the season, bring back TFM & Pereira is a necessity .

I have watched some of his games and ofcourse also see how he played for us in the tour at the start of the season.

I don't think anyone here will claim he is the solution to our problems, but to me he obviouslty brings specific qualities that other players lack. Looking at his passing stats is to easy in my book. What I like about him is that he actually thinks forward all the time. It's nice that some of our players have a really high passing rating, but it means nothing when it just comes from dribbling forward, then turning around and passing it back to safety as soon as you encouter a player from the opposition.

Giving Pereira a shot is free of charge. He is a very good dribbler, thinks offensive, showed enough class in pre-season and can actually swing in a good cross with either of his feet. Unless we sign a quality player, bringing him back is just sensible.

That's atrocious for a player people are talking up as an improvement to our central midfield options. You can allow a lower % for real chalk on their boots wingers but, even then, you'd want them to be taking more care with the ball.

Compare and contrast:
Lingard: 87%
Mata: 87%
Rashford: 77%
Martial: 83%
Mkhitaryan: 82%
