Alan Smith. I had the same hair cut. Loved him when he was at Leeds even, pure passion and love for football. Wore his heart on his sleeve and gave everything for both clubs. Very underrated player. Scored some good goals for us and ended up playing center mid where he wasn't the best but he wasn't awful. We've seen how hard it is for a striker to change to a midfielder when Rooney tried it and he's one of the best players the clubs ever had.

Currently my fav united player is Valencia. Nowhere near the most talented but an absolute beast of a professional. Been here for 10 years now, and i can never firget when he came on after nearly 7 month out with a horror of a broken foot, he was twice as fat as any other player on the field. Unreal dedication to his training, fired his agent a la Scholes because he never wants to leave, and has been first choice for 4 managers now in a position that is not his own.

All time for me, United aside, is Guissepe Rossi. As good as Del Piero imo and a pleasure to watch on the field, not to mention he bleeds for his club. In his prime he could have chosen any club, said I want to go there, and Roma would have recieved a blank cheque. He is their Paul Scholes.

Been one of my best weeks in ages. Probably the best in 2018. It’s because of Champions League.

I probably would say Rooney tbh. I started watching United and Football when I was 7 in 2004-2005 season and he was the main reason. He was such a talent but he had the fire in the belly, he was raw and played so intensely it just drew me. He was pretty much my idol as a kid. He won it all here, he was a crucial part of one of our most successful periods, and he finished as our top ever scorer. He didn't always make it easy to love him, but now it's all said and done he's easily my favourite player of all time.

Buffon, what a beautiful man , shame he probably won’t win the CL he deserves.

My favourite ever non-United player. He scored some incredible goals and I always used to pretend to be him when I was a young kid.

That autograph looks a bit rude. Or boastful.

I was just a kid when these guys played for Sporting, they were my first football idols. They had a big impact on me as a Sporting supporter. Loved their skill and commitment to my club

Balakov was just surreal. he could sove matches out of the blue. Too bad Sporting squad was quite unbalanced on those years. For every Vlacx and Balakov you had a Paulo Torres and a Lemajic :D

Michael Laudrup and his famous spoon passes.
Sinisa Mihajlovic set pieces: you could see the fear in the opponents faces whenever there was a set piece for this guy: power, curl and control.
Paul Scholes long passes: was there anyone better?
Mário Jardel surreal positioning: lazy bastard, but a terrific poacher.
I could go on for hours :D

That goal in the fog against your club  Valckx is just a favourite of mine. He didn't play alot of seasons or was one of best cbs in the history of the club but i met him, got his autograph in a shirt and liked his playing style.

What a great thread by the way.

I loved this guy. His partnership with Hugo Sanchez was fabulous. I can remember them knocking Napoli (a la Maradona, Careca etc..) out of European Cup.. Butra scored a typically clinical, yet v v v stylish finish at their ground... killed the crowd. The tie ended 2-1 to Real, and was probably the result that nailed down the establishment of a Champions League, because UEFA couldn't have big clubs simply playing over two-legs and getting knocked out... this is when Euro footie was about to go all footie/TV/money2.0...

And I just loved the way this guy played. Cracking goal in Euro 2000 final, but Trezeguet had other ideas. Del Piero missed some real sitters that game I recall...

He was a top defender at his time. He was a regular starter for the dutch NT, so he's probably much better than you give him credit for :P
Good old days from the portuguese league, where even small teams had top players. Slavkov played for Chaves and he was a star in Bulgaria.

Valdo played in Benfica! Nowadays a player like Valdo would get nowhere near the portuguese league :D

Ryan Giggs. Everyone in the crowd standing up when he got the ball.

Seen us win the league 13 times and Giggsy was there for every one.

There are 4 Manchester United players who stand out as my all-time favourites: Roy Keane; Paul Scholes; Dimitar Berbatov; Juan Mata.

Yeah those days were great except for, you know, fruit and coffee. It was Sir Bobby Robson who brought him. Another great football figure treated like crap by Sporting chairman/director.

Cantona - a special footballer and man whose unique personality and character motivated a whole club to reach the success that fans dream of.
Well said. A v special footballer. Hugely (and positively) influential on the next generation of players too, which is pretty amazing.

Sousa Cintra made a very quick and passionate judgement after Sporting being eliminated by Casino Salzburg, who in fact was a very decent and organized team before they went bankrupt and got bought by Red Bull.

The fruit peak was mainly on the late nineties, where both Benfica and Sporting had laughable squads when compared to FC Porto. Come on: Porto had in the same squad Drulovic, Sergio Conceição, Jardel, Zahovic, Deco, Doriva, etc.

Meanwhile Benfica had dream players like Gary Charles, Michael Thomas, Uribe, Rojas, Brian Deane etc :D
