Since title hopes are all gone, and top-4 is not reallly under threat, Jose is in a sweet spot with this one where all a normal fan expects is good fast attractive football hopefully resulting in a win. Without the extra pressure of 'must-win' games at this stage of the season, there is no reason to be going in this game with anything but a positive attacking intent. Would be a nice change from the slow boring cagey football we have started to serve lately.
Think you haven't looked at the table for a few weeks.

I don’t understand how, given all his previous clear mistakes in the games he’s reffed between us, the FA can allow Martin Atkinson to be in charge of this fixture again. It’s such an important game and they award it one of the absolute worst referee who has a tendency to make it about himself. Oh well, here’s hoping Jose gets the team selection right and we get a quality performance out of them.

Not only that but there has always been speculation that he favours Chelsea and doesn't like us at all.

I hope not, but I wouldn't be surprised if this a grinding 0-0 or 1-1 draw.

Are you a time traveler? What year do you think this?

Draw or lose this and I reckon our season will become a head-to-head race with Chelsea for fourth.

Are you a time traveler? What year do you think this?

Hopefully, he is from the very near future.

Very hard to predict, although, despite our recent form, Chelsea winning it is still the most unlikely scenario. We need a big game performance.

Get the feeling that someone is going to play a blinder an win this game for us. Don't think it's going to be a team effort at all.

I had a similar feeling, it's about time a lot of them delivered in a big game; Lukaku, Sanchez, Pogba take your pick

I'll have to rush home from office to catch this one.
I predict I'll be asleep before half time. :nervous:

Drop points and and each and every game from tomorrow on will be the biggest must win game.
Exactly, all the talk about the league being gone impacting our performances will turn to us having to win every game because we're chasing top 4. If we lose and Spurs win we'll be 1 point off being outside the top 4, and we've Liverpool and Arsenal to play yet. I think those games are must win just in order for Jose to keep his job.

Big performance from Sanchez needed. Also I hope Hazard doesn't turn up. Usually does against us though.

I'm on the fence regarding Mourinho at the moment. Reckon today will make me fall in the out category.

I think we'll see 3 at the back or a midfield three, but not both in a proper 3-5-2.

Also, for once, Mourinho could try not being such a reactive manager. The bold approach didn't work with City at home but could now. Maybe he's just afraid of our lack of attacking flow being exposed.

    De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Bailly Shaw
    McTominay Matic Pogba
    Lingard Lukaku Sanchez

Subs: Romero, Young, Lindelof, Carrick, Mata, Martial, Rashford

Perhaps a bit harsh on Lindelof after a couple of decent performances but I reckon Jose will want to get Smalling and Bailly playing together as soon as possible. Don't see us losing, think it'll be a bit like the match against Spurs at OT.

It could make sense dropping Mata if and only if we're playing 3-4-1-2, but I don't see it happening otherwise. Only, perhaps, if Martial or Rashford are going to the right.

I'm on the fence regarding Mourinho at the moment. Reckon today will make me fall in the out category.

In recent weeks we have looked disjointed, out-of-sync, lacking urgency and what is infinitely worse lacking motivation. After Liverpool took second place from us yesterday, Jose has a genuine opportunity to show his worth to the club by providing the players with an extra incentive. Failing in this task will definitely see unrest amongst the fanbase.

We need a win this after afternoon, that much is clear, but more than anything we need our players to give a good performance and show they actually give a shit. All the progress we have made under Jose during his tenure will amount to nothing if the players cannot raise their games when it matters most, like today for example.

Win this, win Palace win Liverpool...will give us a bit of breathing room...

I missed the last game against Chelsea we played at home in the Premier League. I'm missing this one, maybe a good omen?

I don't see Mourinho having a go at Chelsea. He has no need to win this game. He'd like to win it for pride and heap pressure on Conte--forget what Conte saying about the row cooling. That's not enough for him to forgo his instincts and risk a loss at home. He doesn't feel as compelled to "play the United way" as he said and we hoped. It's coming down to it a little for Mourinho, and he's going to revert to type. A bore draw keeps things coasting to a second place finish. He'll be content to keep the league ticking on as it is and focusing on the Champions League and FA Cup.

    I hope I'm wrong, though.

If Smalling, Young, Mata play and Pogba doesn't play then I really have not much hope for today which is probably the first time under Jose that I have felt like that before a big game.

There just hasn't been any sign of any form in such a while for me to me confident but here's hoping

    According to M.E.N. reliable?

Would go with 3 at the back for this, with Sanchez and Lukaku upfront and Pogba behind them. Can't see it though.

It's the game where things turn around. 3-1 win.

    From the BBC:

"I didn't realise their record was this bad: Manchester United have won just one of their last 14 matches in all competitions against Chelsea, drawing five and losing eight.

They have lost more Premier League games (18) and conceded more Premier League goals (67) against the Blues than they have against any other side in the competition."

I didn't realise it was that bad, either.

I feel the same right now. Just like my intuition was telling me we would be parking the bus against Sevilla and would probably produce some horrible football, my expectations for this game are similar, considering Herrera is injured for around a month, if not more.

I see us setting up to play 3-5-2 to negate Chelsea's system and get protection on the wings.

The Sevilla game was a 2 leg game. It was the away leg.
Furthermore, that was a knock out competition.

Today's game is not a knockout.
    Today's game is at home.

Before the Sevilla game, I knew 0-0 is what we were aiming for, given that Sevilla are pretty much unbeatable at home.
CFC, on the other hand are not unbeatable at Old Trafford.

Too much negativity in here and it makes me wonder why some of you even bother following MUFC or football.

For the record I am very happy with how we are doing. After 3-4 years of being poor, we are finally ready to finish in the top 2 and back in the CL (past group stages). We have a great manager in charge, who is putting together a young squad which will do very very well in years to come. After winning 2 trophies last season, I can see Jose winning us plenty more trophies in the next 5-10 years and it's going to be glorious.

    Off-topic
If something makes you so unhappy or depressed, for your own health it's best to stop doing it...and that includes watching MUFC.
For example, when we lose or play badly, I will avoid reading the newspapers, internet articles or watching Match of the Day (on TV). When we win, I will read many articles and maybe watch MOTD, as it makes me happy.
The same applies for hobbies/interests/people - avoid the ones which make you unhappy/depressed.
