We need to win more second balls, haven't really had sustained pressure at all during the half. They always escape with the ball, or at least more than what they should be allowed.

Some very pedestrian stuff at times. I don't mind long balls or some slow passing at the back, but we have to press better.

I think Lukaku had to bury his first and third chances. A world class striker would do that. Fellaini should have passed too. The game plan seems to be similar to Liverpool. Sanchez has clearly been asked to put those balls in from left, young also is doing the same. Think we need a bit more, Sanchez behind Lukaku, rashford on the left would be better and put Lingard on the right, if it doesnt work, bring on Paul and Martial for fellaini and Rashford.

A player that just had his best match in ages on the left and scored 2 goals in a derby and what Mourinho does the next match? put him on the right playing more of a wb and away from the goal as possible, still he was probably our best player in the 1st half.

Sanchez chipping a ball down the middle or running into traffic. Does he know that he is allowed on the outside of his man?

Rashford looks dangerous in moments, but apart from that we've been really poor offensively.

Pogba for Fellaini at half time would be good, but it could open up our midfield even further and it already looked like there was too much space first half anyway.

Thing is, if the players were encouraged to play more openly, with some authority and expression, we would be ok.

We are better than Sevilla, yet the way we set up would suggest that we lack a sense of confidence. But I am sure there aren't many surprised with how things are going. Sevilla aren't a great side. V decent of course, and should be respected... but come on. We can do better than this.

Very slow and tight game. Need to step up to get a win here. Just feel Sevilla can be more happy with the result. One goal and we are in big trouble.

We might go on and win this gama and I'll be glad. But I'm not having anyone tell me this is the only way to go about it.
We could play these lot off the park if we attempted to. We have the players.

Sanchez does 3 things that never work out:
    1) Picks up the ball up on the left side, looks up, tries a weird lofted pass to somebody and fails
    2) Picks up the ball up on the left side, looks up, tries an overpowered pass that Lukaku cannot trap
3)Picks up the ball up on the left side, looks up, tries to run inside to make something but loses the ball.
Always cuts into the middle, never tries going outside.

I've to say that Sevilla have played absolutely brilliant and they're curently on 5th place in LaLiga.

To be honest, I think Sevilla are definitely more than good enough to actually compete for a top 3 spot in EPL.
You thought that was brilliant from them?

That half to me was two teams with a clear lack of quality.

Very sloppy passing sometimes. Cmon guys, wake up, this is a frickin CL knockout game!

The midfield 2 of Matic and Fellaini offer nothing in attack. Think Mata needs to be subbed in for us. Take off Lingard or Sanchez for Mata please.

Hopefully this was us conserving energy for the second half. They score one goal late game, and we are in deep trouble. Thankfully they are worse in front of goal than us, by some distance.

We've been brilliant these last few games and what struck me most was the balance we had. Today we lack that especially in midfield meaning we have less cohesion in attack. Sanchez has been given a job to do but he's constantly playing with his back to goal and trying to come deep, this is not where his biggest strengths lie and hence he's getting crowded out.

By the way, someone should press charges against the Sevilla manager for not having a better striker than Muriel.

Shit half. Get Rashford back on the left. Lingard on the right, or put Mata on for him. Pogba for Fellaini. Stop fecking floating it up just because fellaini and lukaku are big. Play it normally then whip crosses in for them to attack.
This constant need to change up the formations is doing my head in. Make Rashford that left side his own, let Sanchez roam and put Lingard on the right or the other way around. Just keep it consistent ffs.

    Two very boring teams.

We like long balls. They like long shots.

Really poor. We approached the first game like we didn’t need to win and get them back to OT. Now we’re at OT we’re playing like we won the first leg 3-0. If they get a goal and we go out we will have got what we deserve.

Having Fellaini on the pitch obviously doesn't help but come on, it's hardly his fault nothing's happening. Sanchez is doing his classic trick of running inside every single time and not getting a shot away, Rashford has been bright at times but sloppy, Matic is on his own helping the defence, Lingard has been largely mincing around falling over, Young keeps losing the ball...it's not exactly a one man shit show.

Intensity is what gets the crowd going and builds momentum. Precious little of that in that half.

I do love how you can depend on the contrarians every match to make out like United play football ala Barca 09-11. It might not be awful but feck off with this nonsense about negativity.

"I'm enjoying it! Why all the negativity here!?"

Feck sake, people are making a few comments on what they're seeing in front of them and the game from both sides is dross - most people aren't delusional.
I don't know about any contrarians, but I'm watching the match and although we aren't great the comments would have you thinking we were on the rack for most of that half. When really it was around 40 mins give or take of meh football.

I don't like the game plan. I expect more football but Mou is a result manager and not a football manager.

We should both go out, fcukin embarrassment to the champions league, this is about as exciting as watching leaves fall off a tree. Manchester United's reputation as an elite club is going down the drain with year after year of this dross. IF we manage to scrape through every team is going to want to draw us as we will most certainly be the weakest team left, we are certainly the least inspiring team.

That was a dreadful first half.

If Sevilla stopped taking daft shots from the edge of the area and had some patience we'd be behind by now.

Needs to take Fellaini off and put Pogba on.

Sanchez is by far our worst player today. Fellaini is bad but not as Sanchez at all. Most our attacks are destroyed under his legs.

Martial in for him. We can this with some pressure on them.
Don't think that's happening. It will be for Rashford.

    OK !

    1. Firstly, Why the feck after scoring 2 goals from the left has Mourinho punished Rashford by putting him on the right to accommodate Sanchez who... doesn't even stick to the left, so we essetially have two number 10's in Lingard and Sanchez

    2. Sanchez is having yet another poor game, will Mou have the balls to bring him off and actually put someone on who is going to have an impact

    3. Why do we always have this mentality against "lower" teams that we can just stroll through the game and have no urgency, it's one of our most important games of the season you idiot's

Put Rashford on the left, lingard behind Lukaku and Mata on the right and bring Sanchez off

    Jeez

I don't know which side is worse. Getting knocked out by such a terrible team would be fitting to our level currently. All on jose. You don't need 2 number 6s against them at this stage. .
It's still hard to say what position actually suits Fellaini. But the main problem with the midfield is that neither is quick, with one having played non-stop and the other coming back from a long injury layoff. Was a risk, but after that first half (after 15-20mins in fairness) it's now clear it's not working. Rashford on the right wing only compounds the misery.
