I bet if we were to check home record vs teams in white shirts, LVG would be even more impressive. Checkmate Jose apologists.
Well that isn't in the slightest bit elitist of you.Seriously newbie system BRING IT BACK!!
I was trying to show the progression in results at home, the fact that we have a great record and break teams down that sit deep. You’ve decided to bring LVG into this and include last season to put a negative twist on it.Well that isn't in the slightest bit elitist of you.
Not trying to be a WUM but reality is many supporters absolutely crucified LVG and had no issues roaring "attack, attack, attack" like spoiled children, yet here we are with Jose, the Supporters choice (for many) and he's on course to possibly score less than LVG over a two year period, with a better squad might I add and he's being defended?
As of yesterday we have scored 57 goals with Jose and LVG managed 68. With Liverpool and City on the horizon, nothing is certain. Going to be very close games and of course I want us to smash them both but I'm not taking it for granted.
Is that not a fair point to make and allowed to be discussed?
Forgetting the managers involved and putting aside personal feelings towards each manager involved and be objective. I was actually surprised myself when I looked at the numbers and posted them, didn't expect there to be such a reaction to be honest.
There's obvious improvement but certainly not anything like some suggest. Personally find many of our games incredibly boring to watch myself, out of the 42 games we've played this season I'd be struggling to find 10 games I really enjoyed for the most part. Certainly not alone in that respect as I can see plenty of comments on here saying the same. Many of our games feel like groundhog day, we really struggle to break sides down and lack any fluidity and while we've plenty of talented individuals we don't function as a team yet. We are extremely predictable and offer little down the right side, everything is either from the left or through the middle like a battering ram.
Serves you right for trying to be a little positive.I was trying to show the progression in results at home, the fact that we have a great record and break teams down that sit deep. You’ve decided to bring LVG into this and include last season to put a negative twist on it.
It’s honesty getting a bit tiring on here.
How about now?Still got Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal to play.
We struggled to a win over Spurs and got a royal dicking by City, so I wouldn't be exactly calling it a fortress this soon.
Yep, and the last time was to Liverpool back in 08/09. Incredible stat.During the (American) telecast today, NBC ran a stat claiming that in EPL history we have only lost 3 times at home when we've scored the first goal, out of like 300-plus matches. Wonder how true that is...
19/10/01: Man Utd 1:2 Bolton (Sam Allardyce)During the (American) telecast today, NBC ran a stat claiming that in EPL history we have only lost 3 times at home when we've scored the first goal, out of like 300-plus matches. Wonder how true that is...
Sky said that in our history we’ve never lost a game at Old Trafford after going up 2-0. Unbelievable stat if true.During the (American) telecast today, NBC ran a stat claiming that in EPL history we have only lost 3 times at home when we've scored the first goal, out of like 300-plus matches. WowThe last time the other members of the top 6 lost at home in the league after scoring the first goal:
Arsenal
14/08/16: Arsenal 3:4 Liverpool (Jurgen Klopp)
Chelsea
01/04/17: Chelsea 1:2 Crystal Palace (Sam Allardyce)
Liverpool
23/04/17: Liverpool 1:2 Crystal Palace (Sam Allardyce)
Manchester City
03/12/16: Man City 1:3 Chelsea (Antonio Conte) - was also the last time they lost at home in the league
Tottenham Hotspur
08/05/16: Spurs 1:2 Southampton (Ronald Koeman)
Yeah, we're pretty damn good.
Some intial research at soccerstats.com suggests there’s less than 10 games a season where the home side leads at HT and loses at FT. Surprising how low it is.This is a good one. I’d be interested to know how it compares to the other big boys.

Yeah, this is mind blowingly awesome. Basically if we scored the first goal against Sevilla, we're like 90% chance to win. Assuring!!All these stats give me great hope in the CL.

And in Real Game we have been robbed!Home losses in the CL after scoring the first goal since 00/01 season:
17/10/01: Man Utd 2:3 Deportivo La Coruna
05/03/13: Man Utd 1:2 Real Madrid
CL home record since start of 00/01 season:
Played: 84
Won: 61
Drawn: 17
Lost: 6
He didn't believe we would beat CFC...which we now have. Our home form is better against the dross, but in our last 6 home games we still have to play Chelsea, Liverpool & Arsenal, so I'll wait and see where we are after that.
Against Spurs at home this season, we performed worse than last season, sneaking a one-nil win in a dour match. Our other home game against a top 6 team was against City... well I don't think anyone needs reminding about that. Total embarrassment,
It wouldn't even matter if we won every game now, because we still got played off the park by City (again!). That is totally unacceptable. They are a mile clear of us now, so if that isn't an eye opener that things aren't right, then nothing will be.
If we play City off the park at their ground, then I'll give Jose some credit, at least that would be something to cling onto. But no sane person could possibly believe that is going to happen. Not unless the entire City squad get taken down by a bout of Ebola. And even then he'd probably still park the bus.
I applaud your positivity, but we have to be real here, we are light years behind, and it is unacceptable to just blindly accept 2nd best. Especially with it being City. Big changes are needed, and it starts with Mourinho. Time to show him the door. Thanks but no thanks Jose. We need to take this club in another direction now.
True. And in Real Game we have been robbed!
I remember Mou's words after the game "the best team lost"True.
But the manager of that Real Madrid team, now manages us
Hopefully his luck will now work for us.
Let me guess. Conte with 3 DMF, not boring enough? Simone playing 451?
They done a Jose on us.I just can't understand what happened vs Sevilla. Our season has been pretty good overall but that one game just changed everything
In the league you mean. We just lost at home to SevilleApart from the loss vs the berts, it’s over two years since we lost at home

funny you mention the Leicester game. It's games like that which sum up an issue with Mourinho. Rather than go for a goal that will kill the game we sit back and try and protect what we have.We have dropped some silly points this season, which has really widened that gap. Leicester, Southampton and Burnley spring to mind, even then it's still a huge gap. City just haven't dropped stupid points.
Obviously the style of play skews people's perceptions as well, and so it should. It's tough to see us spend what we have and play the way we do, then look across the city and see City absolute dominate and strangle teams.
We've been shown the standard this year. So it'll be interesting to see how we react next year. City aren't going to get worse. We have to build on our home success...and add that something extra. I don't think this is a 'one off' from City.
This is the standard that Pep has set. You can't afford to lose more than a couple of games .You certainly can't be dropping 6 points in 9 against teams outside the top 6 in a row.
We gave City the title at Christmas. Before the City game at home we were talking about the possibility of being 2 points behind them. That turned into 8 and by the time we knew it, that was 14...and it was done.
Our attitude and reaction after that Leicester game sums us up, as does the amount of times this season we have conceded first and come back to win. Fragile mentally, worryingly one dimensional and lacking in some balls when things aren't going our way
We were horrible at times under Fergie, all was not rosey in the garden around 2004 for a few years...but where SAF shone was his ability to adapt to the challenges he faced. Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool threw some very different problems, and Ferguson adapted his approach and moved with the times.
Mourinho needs to show that same desire, that same craft and that same ability. If not? Then the job is too big for him.
I disagree. They showed far more desire going forward then us. Played the ball frequently through our MF, got into great situations, outshot us, more efforts on target and had an even share of the ball. They done a Jose on us.
Sat back, decided to give nothing away, hopefully go into the last 20 mins at 0-0 or 1 down(an away goal would have seen them through)then hit us with a sucker punch.
They brought on their top scorer and with us chasing the game hit us again.
If we had done that Jose would have been lauded.
Was saying the same about Swansea the weekend. Ridiculous second half.funny you mention the Leicester game. It's games like that which sum up an issue with Mourinho. Rather than go for a goal that will kill the game we sit back and try and protect what we have.
it cost us V Leicester, it nearly cost us V Liverpool when we handed them the impetus. Even against a dire Swansea at the weekend if Abraham scores with 20 mins to go it means we end up with a very nervy finish
the intensity in our play only seems to be there for a half.... how many games can you say we've played well for the 90 mins
Did you watch the game? They took the game to us and it was Utd sitting back hoping to catch them on the break. The way we set up at home was cowardly against an average CL side who looked a lot better because of Mous tacticsThey done a Jose on us.
