Been listening to them all morning for a nostalgia kick.

Probably my favourite band when I was a teen, saw them play Reading festival before Reading turned shite.

Best album? Best song?

Hard to pick. They're all good, in their own way. Every song on Nevermind could have been a single, but In Utero is probably my favourite to listen to as an album from front to back. I haven't listened to Bleach in a long time, I don't know how well it has aged, but I listened to it a lot when I was at school. I should revisit it.

I remember when Nirvana played on TOTPs in 1991. They wanted to play some new material, however, the show wanted them to play "Smells like...." instead, much to Kurt's dismay, since, he was absolutely sick of being asked to perform that one song; Kurt, in reply, sang the song very badly on purpose.

Heart-Shaped Box or their cover of the Man who sold the world. Couldn’t pick the best album.

Classic. The terrible miming of the instrumentation was also a highlight.

Heart Shaped Box is a depressing, beautiful song.

My favourite Nirvana track has to be Aneurysm.

@OnlyTwoDaSilvas

I listened to Bleach on my walk this morning, it’s still brilliant.

Big fan myself. So many awesome songs that it's hard to pick a favourite, but i will say that i'm leaning towards this one:

Wasnt that an immitation of Morrisey?

How could you tell? :wenger:

I can't say I'm a massive fan but they're one of those bands who just demand respect of anyone with any alternative music tastes. They did things very much their own way and if you want to get a youngster onto some good stuff you can do a hell of a lot worse than slinging them Nevermind or In Utero, plus as said above Unplugged holds up as a top class live acoustic session.

Something in the Way.

Also, Kurt's singing on Where Did You Sleep Last Night, on the MTV thing, is bafflingly good. I particularly love the bit right at the end where he fecks up and forgets to breathe cause he's genuinely shocked himself with how well he did the final 'shiver'.

My favourite band bar none. I too find it very hard to choose between Nevermind, In Utero and MTV Unplugged. I guess it mainly depends on my mood. Bleach and Incesticide are great records as well, more the lo-fi/underground type, with some fantastic songs.

Favourite songs are probably Territorial Pissings and Polly (the latter's lyrics...), but that again leaves out way too much.

Cobain had some of the best songwriting skills I have ever heard , plus he was a great lyricist on top of that..

He could make something that was as lo-fi as it gets be catchy as hell..

My fav is this masterpiece. .

Goosebumps, everytime I hear this. The Leadbelly original song is great too. The Unplugged record is so pure.

Nirvana has always been one of my favorite bands. Impossible to chose from their discography. What a legacy. Most bands I've ever wanted to see live I've seen bar a few, they are one of them, sadly.

My God, I was obsessed with them as a teenager. They were my gateway to 'proper' music. Particularly like this footage. They were asked to do one of the hits for a very safe crowd but chose to do this instead...

Edit. No, that's not moshing in the Jonathan Ross studio - totally forgot it cuts away to another performance.

Brilliant band. I love all their songs but Come As You Are has always been one of my favourites.

They played in Ghent in 1989. The venue was limited to 150 people, and wasn't sold out, far from it. If you have to believe everyone who was apparently present, about 5000 people were there.

Ramones also played in Ghent, the day before Nirvana. God, I wish I was old enough back then to go to both shows.

Worth plugging the Ramin Djawadi cover of Heart Shaped Box for those who don’t watch Westworld (all his covers of popular music for the show are great). Blew my mind when I recognised it for the trailer.

Was absolutely nuts about them growing up. No band captured teenage/general angst better.

Heart Shaped Box
Lithium
SLTP
Come as you are
The entire MTV unplugged set
Drain you
In bloom

So many others, really. I pretty loved most of their songs growing up. In terms coming up with music that 'worked' for the respective genre, Cobain surely had one of the best success ratios? There's not much weak stuff there IMO.

My first music love. Vivid memories of the first time I listened to each of Nevermind, In Utero and Incesticide.

In Utero ftw. Impossible to pick a favourite song though.
