I think most people would've said Alexis was a world class player at Arsenal, why has that changed since he came here?

Us: De Gea, Pogba, Sanchez
City: Silva, KDB, Fernandinho, Kompany, Walker, Aguero
Liverpool: Salah maybe Firmino
Spurs: Kane, Alderweireld
Chelsea: Kante, Hazard, maybe Azpilecueta.

World Class is one of the best in the world in their position.

A lot of these players being mentioned aren't world class. I'm sorry but Hazard and Azpilicueta are not world class. Very good players but not world class IMO.

United: DDG, Pogba , Sanchez
Hazard has proved himself as a better player than Sanchez and outperformed him in the league (being key to 2 title wins). It's not that Sanchez isn't world class (although the question can be asked given his recent form), but picking him and leaving Hazard out is very strange.

Sanchez is a better player than Hazard. He is the more decisive of the two. He has the ability to decide games on his own both on club and international level. Hazard is the opposite. He hides when the stakes are high. You've got to also put into consideration that Hazard has played under a much better team and managers than Sanchez had at Arsenal. I just don't think he's world class. Very talented of course but if given the choice I wouldn't take him at United.

If we're talking about players who walk into a starting XI of any club - not too much. I'd say DDG, De Bruyne, Salah (as of now), Kante and maybe Kane, if he mans up a bit.

If we get it a bit broader and take players of just great ability and effectiveness, who were/may become world class with the right setup/manager, then I'd go with this:
Arsenal - Auba, Ozil (both are declining)
Chelsea - Hazard, Kante, Courtois
Liverpool - Salah, Firmino, VVD (doubtful, early to judge)
Man City - De Bruyne, David Silva, Aguero
Man Utd - De Gea, Pogba (needs another team/manager)
Tottenham - Kane, Eriksen, Alderweireld

Sanchez burnt out, even Martial has more to it than him atm, os he's not in the list.
So Pogba is world class and VVD is doubtful :nono: Virgil is absolute class IMO I can’t remember ever seeing a player whose headed clearances are almost like passes, so very accurate. Calm as a cucumber, spots danger, quick, accurate passing long and short, leader. Think he is being under rated on this forum. Would walk into any team in the world = world class.

Not sure you can say the same for Pogba, certainly going on his United form. Glad to see Firminho on your list though, another very under rated player, and possibly the best in the world at what he does. (Fake 9 who works his Travellers off.) Salah a no brainer, potential ballon d’or winner.

Mane is close also, super important for us, World class? Perhaps not, think Keita might be heading that way also. Building a decent squad finally.
If only we could get Alderweireld or De Ligt we would be pure fuchen sorted la.

Edit: special mention to Andy Robertson, love him ever since the City one man press and bullying hellium breathing, cash grabbing snake. Legend.

World class definition for me: every top team would be interested in the said player. (On current ability not potential)

De Gae, Pogba, Sanchez, Hazard, Saleh, De Bruyne, Silva, Aguero, Kane.

On the cusp of world class: Erickson, Walker, Sane, Sterling, Bailey, Matic, Lukaku, Ozil (used to be WC!), Firminho, Fernandinho, Kante.

For me to be world class you have to have won tournaments at world level, or at least got to finals, ideally on a consistent basis. That would be the champion’s league, world cup, euro’s or other confederation tournaments etc. Top level winners = world class imo.

The Premier league has quite a few players who could be world class, but aren’t yet. Salah, VVD, De Gea, Firmino VVD, Hazard, De Bruyne, Sane, Eriksen, Ederson and quite a few more.

Only player I can think of who I would say is world class already and has the medals to prove it:

David Silva – Man City
I kind of agree with that. How could you be world class if you haven't been tested, and proven successful, in the world's biggest games?

De Gea, De Bruyne, Silva, Sanchez *, Hazard*, Salah, Aguero and Kane**.

Almost there: Pogba, Firminho, Eriksen, Kante, Courtuis

* not based on this season
** totally unproven outside of EPL

Everyone bangs on about salah but he ain't world class!
World class to me is someone who has done it at the top level for a number of years, not just a golden season.
If I'm not mistaken then the previous 2 years he averaged mid teens for his goal tally in what some might consider the 3rd or 4th best league in europe.
That's not world class:nono:
The term world class is banded about today if a player has a good game, perhaps certain players fit into a bracket of having a world class season but that does not make them world class.
I would have agreed with you, but Salah's case is a bit special because he hasn't just had a fantastic season, but he has been easily a top 3 player in the world with actually a decent claim for the best player in the world. I haven't ever seen a player go from decent to potential Ballon d'Or winner since Ronaldo and Messi in 2006-2007 season. So in my book, Salah is world class.

I agree with Plonker regarding Salah not being world class. He is definitely going to be considered world class in the future, but in my opinion to earn that title you need to have a few seasons of performing at a high level. If you disagree with that, then by your definition Kevin Phillips should’ve been considered world class when he scored 30 in the league.

Salah, taking into consideration his form throughout the season, can't be anything else than world class. Why wait until another season before we judge him? Right now he's at world class level. Simple as that!
Looking at Sanchez, on the other hand, he was World class most of his time for Arsenal. Latter part of the season definately not imo. Also being a key player for his country and them not qualifying for WC, I would bring into the equation. Salah has taken Liverpool to CL final, secured them a place in next years competion and taken his country to WC.

There are so many superb players who never played at the biggest stage, doesn't mean they weren't world class, it's just that they didn't have a team to support their qualities.

IIRC Best never played in World cup but he is easily among the GOATs. Sheva hardly played or did anything great in world cups and Euros, he was one of the best striker of last decade. Don't think Vidic had any impact in world cup and he was easily world class. There are so many players to list.

He has decent productivity but it's nothing special. And of course I can ignore it. .
You do know the context right? He isn't playing as attacker, he is a center midfielder. For that position, his productivity is superb.

Hard to take anyone seriously who says 16 goals and assists in 1966 mins (122 mins per G+A) for a CM is just decent. And this is a CM who don't take penalties, free kicks or corners.

Kevin Philips has never been half as good as Salah.

Were Ronaldo and Messi world class in 2006-2007 season? If people say no, then fair enough. If yes, then Salah this season has already outperformed them in that season? Playing for Liverpool doesn't magically make players not world class.

I think he is, but there is a good argument on a player needs to prove himself in the biggest occasions (UCL, World Cup, EURO) in order to be considered world class. Outside of EPL, so far De Gea has only Madrid performances in 2013, maybe Atletico performances two years earlier (although he was hardly one of the best back then), and a game in EURO when he cost Spain a goal and then saved a few good chances in last Euros.

He needs to prove himself outside of EPL. It is the main reason why pretty much all non-United fans have Neuer ahead of him.

Yes that is true. I would still say for example Zlatan was world class during his best years, even though he never played any big finals. But my point is, if you haven't played the big matches, you haven't really been tested at highest level and when everything is at stake. One great example is Thiago Silva, who many considered the best CB in the world some years ago. However, his nerves has failed him many times in the big matches. If he hadn't played the big matches, i would also consider him as world class, but not now when I have seen his performance in those matches. To be world class, among the let say top 20 in the world, you need to also be able to perform at that level and under maximum pressure imho. Do you understand what I am mean?

Ozil is definitely world class. More assists than anyone since his arrival in England. Playing in a shite Arsenal team doesn't drag him down to that level. Look at his performances for Germany and then you'll see why he's WC.
Are you sure, he was no where again last night. He is a good player but a luxury player, and is only as good as his teammates around him, so what if he laid on 20 assists in a season for Ronaldo, or performed decently in a star studded Germany team. He goes missing for literally months of each season. Very good player but not world class by any means for me.

Top 5 are probably:
DDG KDB Silva Aguero Salah

Ozil Auba Kane Hazard Alexis Kante Pogba Eriksen Sterling Sane Walker Firmino Vertonghen Alderweireld Kompany

All top players but a level below world class in my opinion. They are either not consistent enough or just not in that top bracket at the moment.

Arsenal -
Chelsea - Hazard, Kante
City - KDB, David Silva
Liverpool - Salah
United - De Gea, Pogba, Sanchez? (depends on if he gets back to his previous form after a proper preseason)
Spurs - Kane, Alderwireld, Vertonghen

Erikson, Firmino and Özil are close, but a level below IMO.

Kante, Hazard, De Gea, Pogba, De Bruyne, Silva, Aguero, Kane, Eriksen, Salah, Sanchez (on the basis of his reputation).

There are also in-form players like Firmino (fantastic season but not unquestionably world-class like Salah), great defenders like Vertonghen and Azpilicueta (not sure if world-class, but the general standards of defending is quite dire at the moment), and a few great players who can be WC or close in some circumstances — Özil, Auba, Sane

Never won a European or International tournament. Only has 27 caps. Major trophies, one premier league and a Europa league.

Good premier league / contintental player but how can he be world class when he's never performed and won at the top European or World level?

Has the potential to be world class, but isn't yet imo.

I do consider Van de Sar and Schmeichel to have been world class. Both won multiple league titles, champions leagues, have 100+ caps and won at that level.

What you are looking for is "World class team" not "World class player".
