I love the guy but at this point i feel bad for him - had he gone to Madrid he'd probably have won 3 UCLs. I actually wont mind if he left because i just want him to win things

PC GONE MAD!

I keep assuming this guy will be off one summer but the fecker never actually leaves.
Not sure he actually wants to play for Madrid anymore tbh.
Pool's fan must be really sick seeing the sight of him.

He’ll be the club captain after Valencia. I am quite sure of that. If he stays at United into his 30s, he’ll go down as a club legend regardless of whether he wins trophies.

He already did, long before his retirement. :wenger:

And he’ll win a lot more. But I am just saying that his status with fans isn’t going to be about trophies. He’s been a rock for us in the net through this whole rebuild phase after SAF.

I honestly don't understand posts like this. Without him I doubt we'd have won a League Cup, FA Cup, Europa League or be 2nd in the League this season.
Wow talk about a joke getting a reaction out of people. Guess it’s true. The internet is serious business

This is a great news. I think you have to trust Mourinho here, he'll look a right twat if in a few weeks time he joins Real Madrid.

Give him something silly, £350k\week or thereabouts.

The additional points he is worth over a season is priceless.

If he signs a new contract I think he will be club captain next season. Valencia is really starting to struggle with injuries and is unlikely to be a starter next season. With Carrick retiring and Pogba now being no chance, he seems the obvious choice.

Did SAF really compare him to a toddler taking his first steps? I don't remember that

It's unlikely united will release ddg on his best season which is also the season when he will likely win his first golden glove. Have to wait till 2019.

Yeah he did. A good analogy imo. DDG was only 18/19 at the time so a baby in goalkeeper terms.

By then he has probably signed a new contract.

It so clearly wasn't a joke as well, not even close

That's the sort of excuse I used to give when I got caught watching porn. "It was already on the computer when I logged on"!

Financially just give him what he wants, however im not a fan of GK's being captains.
A GK is usually away from action and specially the ref. Captains get a "free pass" on dialogues with the ref and thats part of the game and quite handy to put pressure on some split decisions.

"It has not been quite enough this season.

"Fair enough we are battling to hang on to second place and hopefully we will fire until the final game to ensure that happens, but we have not managed to win our initial target which was to win the Premier League title.

"That is what we are all here for, that is what the players at the club want and also to give a good account of ourselves in the Champions League but we have also not managed to do that.

"Obviously the FA Cup is very important, a nice trophy to win, and we are going all out to win that.

"But it is not quite enough - we are Manchester United and have to aim for bigger and better things, that has always got to be our focus.

"Next season is a new season and we have to improve in a number of areas.

"We have to fight to be involved at the end of the season. It is not just Manchester City we will be challenging next season, five or six teams fight for the Premier League. It is a case of hard work to be in there at the wire.

"We want to win on Friday night (against Brighton) and seal second place as quickly as possible but it is insufficient and we can't offer any excuses.

"We are here to try and win trophies. The fans and people at the club deserve better and that is what we have to do - fight to win big trophies."
Fairly positive comments.

He's certainly making all the right noises and obviously we should do everything we can to sign him up on a long term deal this summer...But I really wonder if he ever looks back on what happened on the 31st of August 2015 with some regret. After all,had the fax machine been in order,he would have won back to back CL titles....Missing out on that must surely hurt an ambitious footballer....

It was madrid who screwed him over, not a fax machine

At the moment we have a captain that doesn’t even speak English, and who I don’t think even talks to his team mates on the pitch.

Keeper captains are far more common on the continent. I really don’t see an alternative to DDG as captain.

Just give De Gea a 5 year contract on £300K a week and the club captaincy and I don’t think we’ll ever have to worry again as he’d then be with us in the long term which is what I actually think he wants himself too, I think he knows himself he’s so dearly loved by us whereas at Real they’ve even turned on Ronaldo countless times and are the most fickle club/fans in the game.

Madrid fans will always throw Casillas in his face too and he'll get paid less than at United were the fans adore him and the media respect him. Also with Madrid winning 4 out of 5 champions league (after they beat Liverpool), are they really going to keep doing that the next five years? Perhaps the challenge of winning it here and winning the League again is more exciting than playing for a team you dislike (he's an Atletico fan)?

I guess his bird probably still wants him there full-time though and may want to be closer to home but it does appear to me that he's in it for the long term at United. I've grown very comfortable with him staying and fully think he'll be here 4-5 years from now.

Some talk about Courtois leaving on a free to Real next summer. Hopefully Navas puts on another superhuman performance in the final so that Dave survives the summer.

I am sure he won't leave this summer and optimistic about him signing a new contract. Madrid needs to add to their squad, but the goalkeeper isn't a priority. They need a new striker and a midfielder, so no way they will pay close to 100 million for De Gea.
