I played Overcooked last night with 3 mates all in the same room and I’m no exaggerating when I say it was the most fun gaming experience I’ve had in about 15 years. It’s actually so great.

Playing it with a couple of friends is a blast. Each round starts off with a clear plan but after the first 2 orders it's complete chaos with people shouting at each other for ingredients and it usually all breaks down when someone puts the kitchen on fire.

On another note, I've just finished Assassin's Creed: Origins and wanted to pop in here to state what a complete waste of potential this game is. They built a beautiful game world that they obviously put a lot of historical research into only to fill it up with a completely pointless video game. There's a ridiculous amount of tedious side quests, gameplay that never really evolves and quite frankly some of the worst storytelling I've seen in a long time. To illustrate how much of the game world is wasted: upon finishing the game I've still not set a foot in well over 1/3 of the map's regions. It's all just so pointless. I may still explore some of it now the god awful main narrative is finished.

Is Overcooked that great or is it just that 4 player couch co op is great?

Finally got round to AC:O as I saw it was £28 on Amazon.

They've definitely taken inspiration from successful recent RPG titles - meaningful side quests, UI, etc. Main plot is so-so; generic revenge style with the quintessential AC one-dimensional lead.

Beauty of the game absolutely lies in the backdrop. Ancient Egypt is a dream setting for an RPG and I think they nail it. Alexandria, Giza, The Hippodrome... Only thing it lacks is any sort of musical score to round off.

I really liked it, too. Getting rid of that glorified QTE bullshit 'combat' popularised by the Arkham games was fantastic.

I hate that crap.

Billy Mitchell, or “King of Kong” if you will, has been stripped of his Donkey Kong records by Twin Galaxies.

Twin Galaxies, the American organization which tracks video game world records, has stripped Billy Mitchell of all Donkey Kong high score records.

The organization has also stripped Mitchell of high score records in other arcade titles such as Pac-Man.

Along with stripping him of all records, Mitchell is now banned from submitting scores to Twin Galaxies.

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Mitchell has been under investigation by Twin Galaxies since February over evidence of emulation software being used to achieve submitted Donkey Kong scores.

Due to Mitchell being stripped, Steve Wiebe, who starred in the 2007 documentary King of King alongside Mitchell, is now noted as the first person to hit the 1 million point record.

Twin Galaxies has also notified Guinness World Records of its decision.

A bit late to the party (well, party...), but I just finished Life is Strange: Before the Storm, including the bonus episode Farewell. Spoilers for the entire series of course:

Well that Farewell ending is just a kick in the nuts. Max announcing her departure for Seattle on the same day as William's accident and then her leaving straight from the funeral. Brutal. Chloe breaking down over that tape from Max, knowing everything that's to come for her with Max pretty much completely abandoning her, Rachel stuff, Chloe eventually reuniting with Max but it all ending in tragedy anyway.

You almost forget video game characters don't exist and have no feelings at that point! It feels almost excessively cruel from the developers. Poor Chloe. :(

Yeah, it's is one gut punch after another.

LiS is one of my biggest gaming surprises. When I saw the trailer for it, I thought "teenage hipster bollocks, no thanks" but then around the time episode 4 was coming out, I was hearing all about the amazing reviews so tried the first episode which wasn't great but had enough to keep me intrigued. By the end of the second episode, I was hooked.

Great game, incredible OST.

Smaller/indie games worth a look:
- Subnautica
Today i guess it is called a "survival game" but it could easily also be named an adventure, albeit with a crafting/building part. Gorgeous (mostly) underwater world to explore. I haven't had that much fun in a video game in a while. Highly recommended!

Why Journey was so highly rated? It was beautiful, I give you that, but common, it won game of the year awards.

For a similar game, I much preferred 'Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons'. Much better story (both games show the story without dialogue or text or any explanation), it touched me far more, and it has a significantly better gameplay, and it is is 3 times as long. And yet less people seem to have played it, and there was less fuss about it.

Because it's pretentious artsy trash & Sony marketed it well.

On a brighter note, VR guitar hero with lightsabers?!

& Brothers would've been better if...
That dad had killed himself like I'd expected. Ending was too mild.

I didn't like either of those two. Pretty much non-existent gameplay and totally forgettable settings. Both times I just shrugged my shoulders at the end and deleted it, never to look back.

There's only one thing worse than non-existent gameplay, which brings me to what I'm playing right now: The Last Guardian. Absolutely abysmal gameplay. It's a non-stop battle with the camera, which is just terrible. The movement of the boy is awkward and clumsy, which is a total nightmare when combined with the terrible camera.

And then there's Trico. Usually he does more or less what you want him to do but sometimes you're tearing your hair out because he's too damn stubborn. There are times I just put the controller down, wander off and return in the hope that he's finally done something useful. I get it, they wanted to make him like a pet with its own will, but it doesn't make for a great gameplay experience.

I guess I'm supposed to feel the emtional connection between the boy and the beast but I just can't when I'm so frustrated. It's a mess.

Brothers had some gameplay, and you needed some coordination between brothers at some parts (using both analogues). Anyway, not saying that it was a masterpiece (it wasn't) but it was a better game than Journey whom for some reasons get mentioned as a masterpiece. But let's be fair, it is an one hour game without story and gameplay. So, pretty crap.

Wasn't fussed on Journey either.

Also, I know that fans of The Last Guardian maintain that the shitty AI is intentional (it's supposed to act like a REAL pet) but I'm far from convinced.

Just played another one to add to the list of games without gameplay or story: Abzu. It's like an underwater walking simulator with diving instead of walking, only with even less going on than the most basic walking sim out there. Had to turn it off after some 20 minutes because I was falling asleep. Why am I even playing these things?

Played some Super Castlevania on my SNES Classic recently. There's some cheap ass shit in that game. It's a walk in the f*cking park compared to Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, though. Tried roughly 15 times to beat the first level and couldn't get past half way.

I used to be able to beat that. I was doing better, to be fair, and getting further gradually, but I'd had a few beers and rage quit.

Super Castlevania  Absolutely amazing game. It's tough at first in places, but it's not too bad when you've played it a bit.

I'm quite lucky with SGnG, I'm still pretty consistent whenever I play it. That's one game I love watching others play :D

Last played on Friday and just beat the Hydra. It was the getting knocked back into the water by the fish men cnuts that seemed cheap. That's Castlevania, though, always has been. A nice change from getting dirt napped by Medusa heads.

Medusa heads are one of the most annoying enemies in video games, absolutely bastards  Yeah those fish guys, they can be pretty annoying just popping up from nowhere.

You bastard you're making me want to play it now.

Totalbiscuit popular streamer/YouTuber has died due to cancer.

Didn’t watch him much, but his opinions came up a lot on Reddit and neogaf. Only in his thirties too.

Sad stuff. Didn't watch his videos, but I saw updates on Reddit at times, and it seemed like it was getting better on certain occasions.

I had a look at the resetera thread which to no surprise is a train wreck with people getting banned because he didn’t agree with them about Gamergate.

I saw this post

I wish TotalBiscuit had used his last time on Earth to excuse and reconcile with the pain he caused to many people in the gaming industry & community. Oh well, not much to do about it now. Condolences to his family and friends, his memory, both good and bad, will live on.
Yeah, feck spending your last moments on Earth with your family. Reconcile with a bunch of idiots.
