Makes sense, a CM (looks like Fred), RW, and LB are all bigger priorities so a fairly cheap understudy would make sense.

Dalot seems to be an interesting buy. Not much to go by, but from the clips online seems to be a gem in the making if polished properly. Nice to have a proper RB to push Valencia as well. Will shut up some of the more negative fans who say Jose only buys "old" players too.

Understudy?

Valencia needs dropping now. He does nothing on the ball.

We've signed enough players under Jose for that to be a terrible argument. At this stage people are just using it as a stick to beat Jose with, without it being based in reality.

Will need to give the lad some time to get used to the PL though. No point throwing him into the deep end and risk him burning out. That said, he does seem like a feisty player who likes playing in a league like the PL.

Whilst I agree, can't address all these issues in one window though. An understudy for now would suffice, providing we address the 3 areas which need desperate recruitment - LB, CM and RW. CB and RB is needed as well but would consider this a bonus, as I have the impression Jose does not like to make too many signings in one window.

Tell me about it - think some people are still stuck in the Class of 92 dream of a super young team winning titles. That was a once in a lifetime event, at least for me. Our squad's age is well healthy enough at the moment to have another 2 or even 3 players who are 27-30 to be in the starting eleven regularly. Ok, back to discussing Tweets.

Well he needs to because going in with Valencia as first choice right back would be ridiculous. Be ruthless like Pep.

You can’t say LB is a issue and then ignore RB. I’d say RB is worse because we literally have nothing down the right side not even a good right winger.

I think our budget will mean a mix of ready-made players like Fred and Toby, with some development players in other areas that might come out of left field like Bailly.

Jose probably feels he can get another year out of Valencia so a cheap younger RB will give us cash to spend in other areas.

I happen to think he's good, the little that I've seen him. @Invictus also sees him as a prospect and I think a lot of the Portuguese poster on here rate him highly.

RB - 19 - Portuguese and plays for Porto.
Never heard of, never saw the guy, but Ok, I believe you, let's get him. As long as we get someone soon, or the meltdown will be unbearable.

Buying a young RB last year would have been perfect, this year it maybe a bit late as I think Valencia could really go downhill next year.
But also there are not really good RBs available.
Even the best ones available like Sidibe have weaknesses in their game.

People have been raving about both the Porto FBs. Wouldn't mind the left back too, he loos like a really good player too.
Don't t think he's gonna cost a bomb either.

I have the feeling our transfers are going to be a domino effect this summer. The possibly unforseen actual availability of Bale (and cant miss prospect for Jose and the club considering our attempts to sign him in the past) looks to me as if it could throw our original plans out the window.

If Tuchel is really not feeling the PSG right back situation, Meunier could be purchased without much resistance. The time for buying an understudy to Valencia has passed, we need a replacement now and keep Valencia between 15-20 games a season.

Aye, would be all for this move — the lad could develop into a truly special player with proper guidance. Arguably the best fullback Portugal have produced in recent years, and very well rounded as a defender to boot. Though to be honest, I reckon he should stay at Porto for 2-3 years and cement himself as one of the better players in the league - especially considering they've lost Ricardo Pereira to Leicester. A developmental setback at his current age could set him back significantly (like we've seen with other players in the past), so him leaving now (when the stars have already aligned in his favor at Porto in terms of maintaining an upward trajectory) wouldn't be the most prudent decision unless he gets an ironclad guarantee of being handled with care by any prospective buyers.

Valencia is leaving at end of the next season, we don't offer contract extension for 32+ years. He'll be understudy to Valencia and our new right fullback if we buy this summer.

Begs the question: Is there still a future for Timothy Fosu-Mensah at United?

Whatever the answer is, I just feel Valencia's time is up if we are serious about winning the title any time soon.

Doubt Fosu Mensah will go on to be a right back.

No point filling a position with average players, you'd only be left with a situation of having to pick between two options you know you can't reply on. Why not just keep Darmian rather than going for Menuier?

Find a top class, or high potential, RB or stay with Valencia and Darmian/TFM.

We didn’t last year, and not the one before either. To be honest, it’s been a good while since we had solid alternatives all over the pitch. And it’s not about just buying a right winger and a left back, our team and squad needs to compete at a much higher level. We can have three average-ish players as long as we gave a good keeper and the rest is excellent. We can’t have three stars and seven fillers.
Actually I believe last year we did . From what I remember Eric Dier was our first choice for the defensive midfielder position but Spurs weren't interested in selling him . So we kept alternatives of Matic and Fabinho as 2nd and 3rd respectively . We enquired for both of them after Dier option wasn't available . Both Matic and Fabinho were interested however Matic was our 2nd choice after Dier and Chelsea were willing to negotiate hence we went ahead and did the deal . Also last season I believe we were alternating between Lukaku and Morata for the striker position . We made offers to Real who tried to screw us around but we were smart enough to keep tabs on Lukaku as well since I believe Mourinho was interested equally in both of them so we went ahead and got Lukaku . Michael Keane was most probably the alternative to Lindelof .This is all from what I read last season . Also in middle of last season Mourinho had commented how he gave Woodward all the names and alternatives for the transfer window .

So it is possible we are doing the same this season . We want a centre back and Toby Alderwerield is our team 1st choice but we are probably tracking others too hence the links to Umtiti and Skiniar . I am sure we looked at other options most probably Seri also while pursuing Fred . I also believe we are genuinely interested in Savic but he is out of our price range and also we are waiting up on Fellaini to see if he will sign a new contract . Bale would be an odd one out since he is a marquee signing so I doubt there are alternatives to that maybe Dybala .

Remember Belotti last year when Torino was asking for 100m.

This year no club would give them even half that.
