To be honest, I know Fekir'll about him.

I'll have a browse on Youtube.

The central midfield area has been a long term issue for Liverpool so they've done well to address it so quickly this summer.

What's next, a keeper?

Stop worrying, worriers!

Klopp is turning into a World Class bottler and even if he signed Messi and was 14 points clear in the league with 5 games to go, he’ll still find a way to lose it.

Not every signing will turn out like Salah.
This.

All week leading up to the CL final, I kept saying to myself, 'Liverpool will lose, because it's Klopp'.

Class manager though, I like him. But he hasn't won as much as he should in his career.

It should be but I think we’ll miss out on Oblak due to his price, and Alisson is more likely to pick Madrid (if they don’t buy Courtois).

Leno has been mentioned.

We need another CB and I think £12 million for Shaqiri is smart. Alisson, Shaqiri and Lascelles would be great.

Leno is too error prone for me. Would turn out like Karius I'm guessing. Alisson would be a class signing. Will be very interesting to see if Madrid go in for him hard over Courtois

Not convinced Newcastle would sell their captain to us unless we offer stupid money eg 50m.

So now what will be the excuse for them not winning major trophies. I can see them spending another £100m on defender/goalkeeper and if they do that would take their total to close to £250m for this season so surely the task should be to win the league or it's a failure of a season.
And yet people will say, "he made it to the CL final with Hendo, Wijnaldum and Milner" ignoring that their wingers cost close to 70 million put together and VvD was bought for another 70 odd. Been fairly lucky too by conning Roma for Salah's price.

Liverpool were underdogs in the CL final but not exactly Leicester City as some made it out to be. They were certainly capable of troubling Madrid with a fairly expensive starting XI.

However, we have to admit Klopp's (or the transfer committee's depending on how you look at it) attacking signings all have been successes. So you can bet they scouted Fekir well, unlike what we did with Depay.

Even their defensive signings (like VvD) have been good for the most part. Just one dud in Karius and that cost them the CL.

Of course, anyone will point out how they are yet to win anything, but there's no denying their scouting is far superior to ours at the moment. I am 100% sure Klopp alone with no help from their transfer committee wouldn't be able to identify such good attacking targets. Ribalta is a step in the right direction, we need a proper transfer board instead of relying wholly on managers.

I disagree, they've strengthened their midfield significantly imo. It might take them a while to gell but that front three with Fabinho, Fekir and Keita is strong as balls on paper. Whether paper fits eventual outcome is a different discussion.
But that's my point. On paper it looks great.

But it might not necessarily turn out to be. Especially because of their defensive frailties.

There are a bunch of reasons, but 3 of them have already been replaced this summer (Wijnaldum by Fekir, Milner/Can by Keita and Henderson or Clyne/Alexander-Arnold by Fabinho).

If they can upgrade at keeper and find a decent CB they'll be comfortable favourites for 2nd.

Fekir gives them a quality backup for Firmino as a false 9 and a creative midfielder that's better than Lallana or Ox-Chamberlain, Keita should be their best overall midfielder in years and Fabinho is a rock solid DM who I'd take over Henderson in an instant or either of their right backs.

I think, comparing the 3rd and 4th sides this year, whereas Spurs find it tough to really improve because they haven't had major holes to fill, Liverpool are the complete opposite.
That's a big If though.

Keepers usually also take a while to adjust to this league. Decent CB are also difficult to find sometimes.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying Liverpool haven't made good signings. I just think the panic simply due to that is unwarranted.

It takes more than just signing players to create a strong defensive unit.

I think they sold Suarez that summer 2015, or was it the one before? Anyhow, by including that Summer you also have to include Utd's.
I think I worded that incorrectly. Klopp didn't have a 2015 summer window as he only joined in october. So transfer market wise, he's been there just as long as Jose and spent a similar amount too. If Jose is being judged on how much he's spent, it's high time Klopp is judged that way too.

I agree, Leno hasnt developed as much as thought we would when he first came into the Leverkusen team. He and Ter Stegen became first team members almost the same time but Ter Stegen has overtaken Leno significantly since then. Leno looked like he could be on the level of Ter Stegen a couple of years ago, I remember him having a great season in 2015/16 I think but he has regressed in the last two seasons.

He isn't as eccentric as Karius but can miss simple saves. Have no idea about Allison But Leno would be underwhelming.

I don't think our defence is as weak as you think

in the 1st 9 games of the season we had a few heavy defeats but since then it settled down, and our goals conceded ratio tighten up became on par with those around us, then we signed VVD and it stayed reasonably good

plus the defence have had to contend with a somewhat good but unconfident slightly edgy keeper

put a decent confident keeper behind them then I feel a line up of

Trent---Lovren---VVD---Robertson

is actually pretty good, strengthened with decent attacking but also defensive minded midfielders in Keita and Fabinho and things look very good

Need that keeper though

and Fekir would be a sensational bit of business

but your right in that great signings on paper doesn't always mean success

Falcao and Di Maria are good examples of that

Nice little dig there. Fair play.

But it's true signings alone aren't the be it and end all. Our fans were raving about ours last Summer.

I can understand your optimism but I have seen this over heightened sense of optimism with Liverpool before and them crashing and burning.

And on that defense, it's still prone to blunders(Lovren alone on his day can turn wins into defeats). And a new keeper will not necessarily seemlessly fit it. It's quite rare that a keeper slots in as well as Ederson does at City.

I just think Liverpool fans need to tapper their expectations a bit. And the United fans on here need to tapper their meltdowns.

Liverpool getting some much needed depth to their squad. Doubt all 3 of Keita / Fabinho / Fekir will turn out good, but 2/3 wouldn't be a bad bet.

One thing they're benefiting from, like City last year, is that it's a lot easier to buy top quality players for the defence/midfield positions then it is for the forward front line. There's such a dearth of top quality wide forwards / wingers at the moment that just makes our task that much harder.

Looking at how much both managers have spent, without considering what they have sold over that period provides no context and is misleading. Would Liverpool have purchased the new players they have this season had they not sold off existing players to fund the investment?

Liverpool
In the 16/17 season, Liverpool made a transfer market profit of GBP6.5m (Transfermarket). In 17/18, we made a GBP28m profit (Does not include Keita purchase, as he'll only start for Liverpool in the upcoming season. This profit is obviously driven by the sale of Coutinho. For 18/19, we've bought Keita for 52m, Fabinho for 43m and hopefully Fekir for another 53m or so. Circa 148m spend this season, but considering the previous two seasons have resulted in net transfer surplus's, the overall investment over Klopp's tenure to date is hardly outrageous.

Klopp's net spend since summer Summer 16/17 = GBP113.5m

Man United
In the 16/17 season, Man Utd had a transfer net spend of GBP102m (Transfermarket). In 17/18, that net spend was GBP136m. Add to that the two transfers made so far (Fred for Circa 52m and Dalot for 19m) and you have a net transfer spend of GBP309m.

I'm not sure it could be objectively argued on this basis that Klopp has invested anything like what Mourinho has in their respective squads, over the same timeframe. His net spend on the Liverpool squad is less than 37% of United's net spend (assuming Transfermarket figures are reasonable accurate).

LFC journos jumping the gun, telling us what a great price it was.

I bet he becomes 'unsettled' like Van Dijk now.

Weird.

I think they want to delay this until after the world cup.

But even the French reporters were saying this was a done deal. Time will tell.
I think it's more to the fact that Liverpool sources were as usual underplaying the transfer fees. They've an habit of doing so.

Really low if Liverpool are briefing an agreed price if nothing of the sort has happened.

It's what they do and that's why they get in trouble for transfers so many times.

Seen all these articles again about Klopp ringing up the player and convincing him to join.

Are they not admitting to tapping up again?

It's more likely that the transfer fee briefed by Liverpool was too low and the original amount is 70m euros or something.

Sounds more like their taking issue with the briefed prices more than anything else, why else would they specify information.

Lyon always have to disclose actual fees so we'll see in a bit anyway.

“I just don’t know why this keeps happening. I mean, we’ve tried everything; we’ve briefed, mid-negotiation that he only wants to play for us; we’ve announced that the deal was done before the other side fully agreed. It truly is inexplicable.”

Liverpool are gonna be a genuine title contender next season, aren't they? If they sign Fekir with Naby and Fabinho. With a GK and CB they're set.

The news came out of France before it was mentioned by the Liverpool journos last night btw. It got leaked from their side first.
You are right, it did. It is all very strange this.
