There were rumors some days ago about him.
Apparently Madrid players in the national team recommended him to Florentino.
Good choice,I like him.I wonder who will be Spain next coach
What rumours? Like actual press or Twitter?

It’ll be funny if he absolutely shits the bed at the World Cup and he ends up basically starting in the with all of the Madrid fans thinking he’s a right bell.

At least we should finally manage to get the best out of Isco

Not a good look for Bale though. Nor i would think Benzema. And the chances of us blinking first in the current standoff with Cris just got even lower bigger, because Jorge Mendes is his agent isn't he?

Madrid fans would probably welcome that since he'd be able to focus on the job much earlier that way.

Ah that would explain why this happened then..

If Spain don't win the World Cup he's going to be halfway out of the club before he even starts

He plays 4231.
Maybe we are going to see the best of Isco and Asensio with him.

Didnt he coach RM's 'B team' at some point? RM have really shot themselves in the foot having fired so many managers others just dont want the job. Same as Chelsea really.

It wouldn't have mattered if Madrid got the best coach available. Anyone following a manager who just won them 3 back to back UCL titles is just an impossible act to follow.

Only way to top that is a Treble + the Club world cup and the UEFA super cup. Basically win every competition. Which is definitely not possible. Bare minimum is retaining the CL.

I've not seen him manage any game so I don't know how good or bad he is, but he's just signed up for the impossible job. The next manager might do better by following this guy.

Not saying Zidane is as good as SAF, but the situation of the job at hand for the next manager is almost about the same as Moyes with us.

LW or even as ST...
Marcelo is the one who provides width.

Isco would play as No.10/CAM...similar to Ozil or James years ago.
And he's neither. Ronaldo isn't able to play the wing role anymore and he's not a lone number 9 striker. If this happens I'm expecting loads of problems between both as the season goes on.

Walked past him once on the beachside at night. He was wearing a blue denim jacket. Saw me and we exchanged thumbs up.

Thought he was a good manager with an eye for youth prospects. He launched Neves when he was like 17. Sadly the Lisbon's media was too fierce for him to handle but he was always alone fighting them while our President was nowhere to be seen. He'd easily have won us the league if it wasn't for blatant corrupt refereeing. Tough job though in Madrid though.

Hopefully he favours Asensio and Bale comes to us haha. A boy can dream right?

Ultimately his been hired to be the fall guy for this season as they go through transition.

Their real target will be hired next season.

Hmm :smirk:

You might be the only Porto fan in the world who actually liked Lopetegui by the way.

I'm sure Pochettino and Allegri were the first two choices. I'm also sure the club never contacted Conte or Klopp.

I'm happy with Julen as a third choice.

Usually whenever the Caf reacts like this the manager usually does well.
It's a huge job but I wouldn't put it past him to do it well.
He's managed Spain at 4 different levels and won Euro u21 Championship with them. Although many brand his time at Porto a failure he had a 69% win ratio with them despite many of his best players being sold from under him.
He's got his connections with the Portugeezer which will get him a steady stream of top players to come on board and should have good relations with the Spanish nationals through his NT connections.
Good luck to him.

Yeah I think he can do well.

He has rehabilitated his image since then.

Interesting to see how he will do. Both this Summer and next season.

Both the first two options seem too busily entrenched in their 'projects' to have been realistic given they are giving up stability and clubs that back them for a job that would ultimately see them fired in 2-3 years or less.

Do you think Ronaldo is going to continue playing for Madrid next season?

Yes, he's been a real failure as president with their 4 Champions League titles in the past 5 years. :houllier:
How much of that has been down to Zidane and Ancelotti? Unless the President coaches the players, picks the team, selects the tactics, then it's reflected glory.

Why not ?

Ronaldo need Madrid and Madrid need Ronaldo. These stories happen almost every year it's nothing new, but the fact they both need each other and I'm expecting Ronaldo to retire at Madrid.
