He is the type of player you hate if he doesnt play for you. I noticed it a bit this season that he actually is a really annoying player... i used to really like him when he played for United too.
I always had an irrational dislike for Chicharito. From his name to his face, to his annoying playing style. I used to attract howls of derision on here for that. Now I can safely abuse the little lesbo without fear of recrimination.

Don't think so, they always have some exciting moments at the WC and usually get out of the group but always lose in the first knockout round.
I've seen them play before this tournament and I've seen this quality before. If you can beat Germany you can become champion.

Brazil vs Germany in the next round?

Mexico were absolutely terrible at the final pass in those counters, so frustrating to watch. Especially Chicharito who had a great game otherwise.
Germany use the same tactics as today and Brazil are going to embarrass them imo

This happened in 2002 when we won the group vs Italy. Mexico managed to defend the score though, that's new. Don't think I've ever seen Mexico manage to hold a score before.

It's always a delight to see Germany losing, not as much as seeing France but almost :D They are doing the same mistake than Spain did in 2014 playing with hasbeens players like Ozil Khedira and Muller.

England oddly may be better off finishing second in their group as it'll most likely lead to them being in the easier bracket. France, Argentina, Germany, Brazil, Portugal and Belgium may all be in the other half.

Germany defensively, think you can see one of the issues with Bayern steamrolling that league every year, never having to plan for the opposition, not expecting numbers to be committed forward against you. Mexico, with a better final ball/choice of pass, should have been scoring 4/5 there. Kimmich doesn't have to defend for Bayern, not sure he knows how to.

This x1000, I kept thinking "don't Mexico this up". They are notorious for playing great and pulling out a Peru style result.

It shows again why half of Germany was sick of Löw before 2014. Winning the World Cup obviously muted all the screams and shouts but this game puts them rick back into memory again!
Not bringing Sané to the World Cup, starting Draxler and Özil ahead of Reus, playing Khedira for 8 years when potentially better replacements are available. How he didn't make changes going into the second half today, I don't know. The 1.5 man midfield (all 3 of them counting as .5 when defending) was properly found out today by an excellent Mexico side.

Congrats to Mexico, deserved win for that first half!

Great performance, just never seen a team crying after winning their first game.
A smaller country beating one of the favourites, it's great to see. It's a historic result for them even if it was the first group stage game.

Germany : Very slow defense and midfield and clueless attack. They will pass but sure as hell not gonna win it again this time.

Yeah I've just checked this out myself. Seems like it'll be us and Belgium trying to finish 2nd in the final game

I really hope Brazil starts shaky also because i dont want any team to run away with the cup. Every candidate so far has looked so so. As a neutral, this is great for the tournament :D

It'll probably be one of those results forgotten once the tournament is over, like the Swiss beating Spain or Serbia beating Germany in 2010.

Mexico have had impressive results before at World Cups, like when they drew with Italy in 2002, pushed Portugal close in 2006, beat France in 2010 and pushed Brazil close in 2014.

Each time they lost in the round of 16.

Yep. Always found it surprising how he went from a huge question mark to suddenly unquestionable because he grinded out a world cup. Granted, huge success, but before that tournament the tactics were always questionable. Tactics the reason they lost today again.

This usually happens because Mexico always finishes second in the group stages and faces a contender in Round of 16.

Last WC, Holland barely squeezed a win against MX in the round of 16 thanks to a very light penalty call in favor of Robben.that was a hell of a game too.

If Mexico finishes first in the group, we’ll most likely face a lighter team this R16 to possIbly make a decent run.

Don’t want to get my hopes up but If mexico keeps it up against Sweden and S KoRea, we can possibly make it to quarters

Said it pre match but anyone else surprised Ochoa has never made a good career in europe. Clean sheets in back-to-back world cups against Brazil and Germany now and he had excellent handling on the long range shots, didn't parry any.
He’s just too small

Just messaged one of my friends congrats on beating Germany as he is from Mexico. The bugger only messages me a picture back of himself at the game!

I'm off work at the mo....I'm so tempted to fly out to Russia.

I remember Spain losing to the Swiss in their opening game in 2010 and they won it. The only time that has ever happened. Although they didn't look plain bad like Germany did often tonight.

We'll be drawing in the 91st minute before Jones steps forward and comes up with a heroic moment in the final seconds by planting a delicious own goal into the bottom corner past Pickford. We finish second and the rest of history - we're winning the World Cup.

Well done Mexico, Well done. Very good game for the neutrals. Lozano was very impressive and a great first touch, and Herrera has quite an engine in him.

For the avid watchers of Mexico international games, have Mexico's playing style always been like this? (ie. Playing the ball from the back, rapid counter attack, etc)

I remember, but this Spain team was still very dull in their path to the Cup though. They were lucky keeping all these 1-0 wins without conceding.

For Germany, he did.

He gave them back the ball every time and didn't attack the ball. He was very bad.
Yeah, I didn't understand the changes. Why keep knackered Chicharito instead of someone with pace and skill to give that final pass.

I think they've been flirting with doing something great for far too long, wouldn't surprise me if they reach semis this year as they've been losing close games in R16 for almost 14 years.
