The relegation battle is gonna be tough this year, I hope we can stay up. Not looking likely though.

Really surprised more people don't have this line of thinking. Should be pretty clear after the players Mourinho has already brought in. After Sanchez, I'm done expecting new signings to change the way we play.
But but Smalling...

And Young...

Worth noting that we signed Sánchez in January. Had he waited until summer we'd all be saying what a great window this was.

if we dont sign anybody on the last day , the melt down on here will be of Pompeii proportions, but still nothing like the meltdown will be on Facebook.
The devil in me wants no more signing just to see it

I don't think either of these meltdowns will compare to the meltdown Mourinho will have in his first post-window press conference.

In my head, we have signed the following this Summer:

- Fred
- Dalot
- Grant
- Sanchez
- Pereira

Not bad.

If Jose can get the following to perform at one or two more levels better, we'll be stronger:

-Lindelof
- Rashford
- Martial
-Shaw

And if Bailly can stay for for at least 20 more games, we'll be in business.

Because it's fecking mental. We're one of the biggest clubs in the world with one of the biggest revenues, competing against a freakishly good team and you want us to not sign someone because you think our current manager is underperforming essential. I mean it is essentially cutting your nose off to spite your face. Every united fan should want us to give everything.

Even if Jose does get the team firing we'd still be likely to fall short of City and then what? you'd be glad the board let him know who's boss? Hoorah!

There's only one United!
Wolves may end up further up in the table than us at this rate.

Of course it's essential. He has some good players at his disposal but he's not getting the best out of them. That's a key aspect of his job description. If he can't make these players work, how can we expect that just throwing money for more of his signings will make things better?
Two of his CB signings cost the club £60M and Mourinho is not getting the best out of them (when not injured), and one spends most of his time warming the bench.
Not because you have money, it doesn't mean you should be reckless with it. These things have consequences.

I'm not melting down, other than a right winger, I'm not sure who exactly we need.

But let's be clear. We did not sign Sanchez this summer. We did not sign Ronaldo, Cantona or David De Gea this summer either.

We swapped him for another player 8 months ago.

Tbf if he can get Shaw playing again and make one of Martial, Rashford or Alexis capable on the RW, it's not actually a bad team.

Bailley keeps getting injured though which will be of concern. I don't even know what the point of signing Lindeloff was at this stage.

I think our most glaring concerns were at CM, LB and RW and if we expect to challenge for the league and CL we should have addressed all three problem positions. New signings and world class signings inject life into the players and the supporters. The preseason has been underwhelming, the signings have been the same. I expect the season to be similar if nothing changes in the next 24h

I'd love to know how Woodward feels at moments like this.

Is he genuinely relaxed as he's on millions, and has a "whole" day left to sort stuff.
Or is he absolutely stressed beyond belief, knowing he has "just" a single day left to sort stuff.

Doubt he gives a shit. He's only answerable to the Glazers and it's not like they will fire him.

He's understood to have told pals that he's deliberately left it late as "it's been ages since I had a right ding dong of a deadline day"

At this precise moment Ed is playing squash with his neighbour bragging about how shitty the media are and how he will have the last laugh tomorrow when we sign maguire for 67.5million.

On the plus side, it looks like we might be keeping Darmian now who could be viewed as "like a new signing" :wenger:

Shaw Lindelöf Zouma Bailly Tuanzebe Valencia

No new full backs, mind you.

This went from “which marquee signing this summer?”, and most people saying no to possibility of getting bale, to now many convinced no one is coming, what a crazy couple of months :houllier:

I still believe we will get two by deadline tomorrow, there will be a huge backlash if we don’t sign anyone, and we start the season badly, things can turn ugly quick.

I’m a mourinho supporter, but I’m starting to turn a bit, I can’t blame the board, and Ed, I mean we have gotten Sánchez, Rom, Pogba, Matic, etc the past few years. Obviously there is a limit, but can’t really blame them, a lot of pressure for Mourinho to deliver, and I feel like it’s rightly so...

I'm half expecting to turn on SSN tomorrow night to see Jose being interviewed whilst hanging out of a car window outside Carrington, loose jawed, chewing gum and telling reporters with a wink that we may have a chance with Scott Dann - "Scotty is a good boy, there's still an hour and a half left so we'll see"
I was joking about this but now we've been linked with Zouma I'm starting to think "who knows".....Jesus, just how far down Jose's list has Woody got??

I'm hoping it's like last year when Chelsea were being linked with every shimmering ape of an immobile lump of a centre forward, delving into Barnes and Crouch territory.
Before the press got bored having such a laugh.

Once they try and link us with Shawcross or Evans, we can get back to normality.

I just hope the truth about this window comes out.
I think the truth is just that the World Cup has fecked the window.

People have mentioned City, Chelsea and Spurs not spending a lot of money.

I'd like to add Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich to the list

I think the truth is pretty simple: there are very few quality players who are available.

If Real Madrid - flush with cash and needing new players - can't find anyone worth buying, it says it all.

So looks like no signings? I'm more annoyed we didn't get rid of the deadwood this window more than bringing in sufficient players.
