We needed to improve 5 positions: CB, LB, RB, CM and RW.

So, 2 points for each position.

CB: We didn't sign anyone, we lost Blind (0/2)
LB: We didn't sign anyone (0/2)
RB: We signed Dalot, but we needed someone ready to replace Valencia (1/2)
CM: We signed Fred, quality player for the first eleven (2/2)
RW: We didn't sign anyone (0/2)

Conclusion: 3 points.

I would rate our transfer window as a 4 out of 10 because having Pereira back is a plus.

If we have sold Rojo, Darmian, Fellaini and
sign Alderweireld, Sandro and Bale that would have been a perfect 10 for me.

3 but definitely think this squad should be good enough to challenge. Would like to see young and Valencia replaced

No, low I would say. The squad needed far more work. I have high hopes for Fred and hopefully Dalot will come good but feck me, overall it was a disappointing enough window.
We were told when Alexis signed that he was effectively a 'Summer' signing brought forward, so you could say we've signed four players this window, how many do you want/expect ?

I opted for 6 because we kept De Gea and signed Fred who I think is the missing piece to our midfield.

-4 points for not signing a RW, LB, RB & CB.

I went for a 4. I'm optimistic about Fred and we'll see how many chances Dalot gets. To me we needed another attacker for that right hand side, wouldn't such a problem if our fullbacks could actually attack though. Would've liked to see a new left back in as well, haven't seen anything from Shaw in a while now that makes me think he's going to make it here and Young, whilst doing a pretty good job, could really have been upgraded.
That being said, I'm interested to see how we do when we have everyone back.

3.

It's asking a hell of a lot for Fred and Dalot to improve us to the point where we're challenging City.

I wanted a right winger. I also wanted shite like Darmian sold and possibly one of our CB’s sold and an upgrade brought in.

How you can call it a 7/10 window is beyond me.

Kept all our important players, added Fred who I think will do well, Grant as 3rd choice is good, and Dalot who I know feck all about. Sales and loans also fine but hope a couple more leave (Darmian, Rojo maybe)/go out on loan (McTominay, Mitchell, Wilson, O'Hara, Warren, Olosunde etc.). Squad still seems a bit bloated.

Would definitely have liked a left back though not sure who. I guess a winger was never on the cards and actually I think a lot more can be done with the attacking players at the club. Alderweireld might have been nice but don't see a CB as urgent and maybe we can pick him up in January or next summer.

I want Mourinho to fcuk off because we've got more than enough in the squad already to be competitive at the top of the table, but sadly we don't always get what we want.

6 or 7 is fair, whereas anybody that voted 1,2 or 3 is obviously on a wind-up

If Fred ends up being as influential as Kante, then an 8.

As it stands I don't know anything about him, and due to our recruitment since 2013, I'm expecting probably that won't be the case. So a 4 for now.

The general feeling seems to be that there was a discrepancy between what Jose wanted (older, experienced) vs. what the board (younger, higher resale value) wanted. My question is, if you aren't going to support the manager's wishes, why hand him a new contract at the beginning of this year?
Excellent point. Does anyone know, is the Manager still living in a Manchester hotel? This has always bugged me, because it is hardly showing a long-term commitment and it isn't as if he can't afford somewhere nice in Cheshire!

I really think this situation should have been considered before the contract was extended.

I’m genuinely shocked that UTD haven’t strengthened. There’s normally the odd sneaky deadline looming deal, but nothing of note, bar Fred.

I’m being serious, I’m really surprised.

It seems six of us have rated our transfer performance a ten. What have they been smoking.

The important thing is that we managed to hang onto Fellaini.

I’d like to know if anyone knows why it matters...?

He’s got a luxury suite with daily turndown and cleaning service so he doesn’t have to bother with it.
It matters: I know his family are in London (was his son at Fulham as a young keeper? is he still?) but he could still get a place more discrete WITH a cook and cleaner etc. I think he likes the Marriott too much, because it's all about him, the press know where he is, the newspaper headlines.... He needs to remember: nobody is bigger than the club, no matter what he has done previously.

Wanted two full backs and a right winger. All I got was a one young backup fullback.

All I wanted was us to be in title contention, not even guarantee to win the title, but seems Top 4 contention is the new future.
Yeah it’s a 4 from me though. Fred and Dalot could be exciting.

But not strengthening any of our weak positions and renewing Fellaini makes it a poor window.

3. Key weaknesses have not been addressed. Hope Fred and Dalot make an impact quickly.

Only Blind has left and there were plenty others that should have been shown the door first.

We didn't lose any players we didn't want to lose, so that's something. We also completely failed to strengthen a couple of positions that have been problematic for a long time. The players we did get in are relatively unknown quantities. Plus we also failed to lose some dead weigth we've been carrying around for far too long.

Can't be happy with this, if this was an exam there's no way we passed it. Probably a 3/10 or something.

We needed
RB
LB
CB
CM
RW

Dalot I am happy enough with he’s not ready made by any stretch but we can make do with Valencia for one more season. We bemoan our RB situation but other than Walker and Trippier I don’t see any other PL RB as being head and shoulders better than Valencia. So I think we’ve done the right thing here.

LB for me is only an issue depending on how Luke Shaw performs. He’s in the last chance saloon now where he’s old enough to have matured and should be taking over from Young this season if he can play to the level required. Anyone suggesting we could have gone for Alex Sandro is in dream land and I don’t see any LBs that moved this window that we could have improved our team with.

CB is my second greatest concern. We are missing an experienced world class defender and Alderweireld IMO would have been worth the investment. We will have to hope Lindelof can develop into that player for us. I would not have fancied Mina or Maguire to push us on. Godin was unrealistic and Boateng was an injury concern.

CM I’m really happy with Fred as he is the kind of midfielder who would compliment a Matic and Pogba and offers us quick short passing and energy. With Pereira coming back in I think for once CM is sorted.

RW is where I have greatest concern. I love Lingard and think he’s a quality player but I don’t think he’s a RW and Mourinho seems to want to have one. Perisic would have been perfect, Willian a good second choice but no dice.

So with this in mind I’d give us 4/10 I think Dalot was a good signing so 1 point for that, Fred was excellent so 2 points there and I think not just wasting money on any old LB was sensible so another point for being discerning here. I do feel however that the CB and RW could come back and bite us and while I believe we have the 2/3rd best squad in the league we are still IMO a very long way away from City.

Got Fred, who might help get more out of Pogba, plus Dalot might be useful in the future.

At least we didn't splash out any cash for bad fits just to buy someone. I was afraid we'd spend exorbitant money on Maguire or Mina (God forbid). TBH, if Jose's wishlist was more CB's, I can see why we pretty much sat on our hands and didn't buy. If his wishlist was to address the fullbacks & RW, I could've seen spending the money, but more money on a CB seemed like throwing good money after bad. Only CB I could've seen of use was Alderweireld, but not necessarily for the price Levy wanted. Maybe an in-form Boateng, but as he's on what seems like a precipitous downside, even a cut rate price might not have been feasible.

Some positive points for trimming the squad a bit, with some possibilities for getting rid of more as the rest of European window is open.

Also some credit for placing TFM & Axel in what seem to be good positions for experience.

Figure Woody is saying to Jose, "Make the best of what is still a very good squad, and if you survive & win a few trophies, we'll re-load & hunt for bear next summer". Me thinks Woody & board expect Jose to implode and they would rather save the money for the next guy.

We pay 35 mill for Lindelöf, 12 mths ago. Everton nail Mina for 30 mill.
What the feck is wrong with us?
Disastrous window!
This is silly. Lindelöf had just as good a WC as Mina, and Mina only played 6 games for Barcelona last season. On what grounds can you say he is better?

If I was on a million paycheck I'd also be living in a hotel.

In fact I know a lot of people do the same and having 5-6 condos and private villas.

I'd give it a 2/10, but I'Il upgrade it to a 6/10 for the increased likelihood of Mourinho throwing a hissy fit and leaving.

Mina is better in every department. I just do not rate Lindelöf and I base that on his performances for utd. When he's played Smalling has carried him. Same in the WC. Sweden had a defence with Granqvist as the other CB, who was outstanding. He held their defence together both physically and tactically. Their success wasn't down to Lindelöf. Mina bossed the Columbian defence and he certainly showed he has all the credentials to be top notch and I'm convinced he would give us a hell of a lot more than Lindelöf.

As I said before, too early to tell.

We've kept DDG and that has to be a bonus, because I was convinced he was gonna go.

As for 'lack of signings' put it this way, Arsene Wenger reckoned only 1 in 3 signings really worked for you and I make about right.

Consider this, JM went on about giving the board five names, well, if recent transfer activity at United is anything to go by three or even four of those would have been duds. And cost the club how much? Typical World Cup year, transfer values are unbelievable. Those 3/4 players we didn't sign would have cost towards £200M. And still no guarantees.

JM needs to crack on, stop that moaning and get the best of the squad he's got. Last season they showed they can really turn it on at times. He needs to squeeze consistency out of them.

We signed a good midfielder and a talented RB. But, the problem is that we did not sell our deadwood players (Darmian, Rojo, Jones/Smalling) and did not improve areas where we should have badly, despite options being available (LB, RW, CB). And leaving it so late was just unprofessional and stupid

Glad we got Fred, Delot is one for the future, still a big question mark if he is any better than what we have already have (TFM) or what can break through out of our youth. The sad part of it all was our early transfers have been overshadowed by the lack of transfers made since. If the press is anything to go by Utd had the money but weren't prepared to fork out big money on Jose's 30+ club (I understand the logic behind that as well) e.g. Sanchez is yet to light up the skies and Matic had a reasonable season with some really good games in between but will only go downhill from here, Fellaini just lost for words, maybe more hoofball.
Did I want to see more players come in, definitely but then real improvements to what we have, no Boateng, Mina, Rose, Alderweirald(injury prone),Willian. Are those players Utd should be aspiring to bring in against inflated prices?

What I am glad about is the club has stood firm and not cashed in on its younger players to so called finance older players on their last legs. Glad Martial is still here, would like to see Shaw really get a chance, he was a real cracking up and coming LB before he broke his leg and since then hasn't really been given the opportunity to get back to his old levels. Martial we all know the potential there and thank God Pogba never really came into the equation of leaving.
