Cool story!

Sturridge first signed for Chelsea in 2009.
Mourinho first left Chelsea in 2007.

Sturridge left Chelsea for Liverpool in January 2013.
Mourinho rejoined Chelsea in June 2013.

I wonder if the scpuse sports pundits would be so critical of Klopp if the topic of Ben Woodburn came up? I thought he was meant to be the next Neil Mellor or something?

I love Marcus but is he capable of leading our line? I think not. He must stay and prove his worth. Hes an amazing prospect but he hasn't delivered yet.
How do we know?

His appearance stats for us are good, but they're all sub/playing wing.

I personally despite his age don't think he has developed here in line with his talent. This could be down to lack of game time, lack of coaching development in an attacking sense or Jose's tactics.

We don't play a style of play that allows flair players to flourish. Every attacking player is stifled under Mourinho to some degree.

Should Rashford leave? For UTD - I hope not as Martials head is gone and Sanchez has yet to perform which makes Rashford our 2nd most important attacking player.

For himself - I'd certainly consider it. He plays with more freedom when selected for England and at 20 (which I appreciate is young) having been around the 1st team for a couple of seasons I wouldn't blame him for wanting to kick on again as he hasn't really developed since he burst onto the scene.

Rashford is an amazing talent, we're lucky to have him

He's not good enough to start for any of our rivals (and he wouldn't even get a game at City) so if anything he's lucky to have us.

I disagree with Carragher as well. Rashford has done nothing to suggest that he has world class potential and he certainly hasn't been good enough to warrant being first choice.

If Gabriel jesus was initially started for city by guardiola over Aguer0 - then there is absolutely no reason that Rashford can't start for us. Rashford for me has equal talent to Gabriel jesus - in fact better with my biased eyes but that defeats the point - Rashford would start for plenty teams. Ultimately if he is dropped to be replaced by a world class striker on top form like Aguer0 did to Gabriel jesus than that is a different story - but to say he won't start is wrong.

Rashford would start for City last season instead of Gabriel Jesus, Rashford would have been playing as a support striker instead of a winger replacing delle Ali at spurs under consistent game time. He would occasionally overtake Mane as an inverted forward when he lost some form like he did last season - playing one of the two men that lead the line for Liverpool in front of a false 9. Considering how well klppp has done with the homegrown players - I'd say he would be better off there.

No one would play him 24/7 by himself upfront but that's irrelevant because that is not how you get the best out of a player like Rashford; you play him with other players in a cojoined system & no doubt Rashford would start in better positions at some other clubs than simply being pushed out wide out here by Jose. Rashford has the chance to grow as a LF like sterling, overtake Gabriel jesus at St, and do very well/compete well with sane & mahrez - all in the exact same team because the team play a type of football that suits Rashford amongst other players in our team.

I haven't a clue if Rashford ever becomes a 25 a goal striker - but the fact is he has much more ability than purely scoring goals to the point that playing him upfront with a partner - they can share the goal scoring burden of one striker like Lukaku does where the whole damn team are wondering how to get the ball to the corner flag so we can cross it in. Instead they have the ability to play like forwards who are able to bring others in to play or directly take on central defenders.

Lukaku would not get in to City or Liverpool - because as their gameplay & the league shows - they are technically capable teams who play football well, attacking and on the ground. Rashford would dump Lukaku on the bench over any of those teams because the latter is just a better Andy Carroll.

He's barely out of his teens, years from his peak, but still getting plenty of games for Utd, after being developed by Utd, yet we're doing it all wrong according to the experts? lol ok.
Every footballer develops differently. As long as he has the right mentality, he doesn't "need" to do anything different right now. Frankly, I think it's pretty irresponsible of these guys to be unsettling young English players by dishing out unqualified career advice.

I like him for sure. He's got the physical attributes, especially with his pace, and is a threat to a lot of teams. Plus he can score in the big matches, has done so against City, Liverpool, his debut when all eyes were on him. Mentality is such an important attribute especially at a club like United. If fans and pundits can just give him time, United and England have a fine player in their hands. Do I think Jose's style brings the best out of him, no, but Marcus has his whole career ahead of him and has so much time to learn and gain experience. He might not be a big enough name to lead United's frontline at the moment, but he certainly may be one day.

They're just pushing their own agendas.

Does Gabriel Jesus need to leave City as he's got Aguero in front of him?

Does Solanke need to leave Liverpool because of Firmino? (Okay yeah he probably does)

Do Lacazette/ Welbeck need to leave Arse because of Auba?

Does Morata need to leave because of Giroud?

No, because having one top striker is fecking stupid. What a brainless bunch of feckwits Redknapp, Carragher and Thompson are. They need to stick to spitting at kids, or whatever they do in their spare time.

They're clearly trying to unsettle him and wouldn't dream of making a similar comment about any other club's striker. Rashford is at his boyhood club, and he's only 20. He's got all the time in the world to learn his trade and develop into the world class striker he is capable of becoming.

Am I missing something here? I thought the general consensus on the CAF last season was, when Lukaku was indeed injured (last few games of the season), Rashford was terrible as a #9. So what makes us think that 2 goals in 2 games for England aside that his best position indeed is a target man. Also, what makes us think Southgate is going to bin Kane as a #9 in favour of Rashers? I think as other posters have mentioned, this is just mischief making from the pundits. But also, as a 20 year old, Rashford has played quite a lot of games for a club the size of Manchester United. He doesnt need to go anywhere.

Whenever he came on against Burnley he looked very dangerous and looked determined to make a difference and stake a claim for more minutes on the pitch. But alas he was sent off and its set him back 3 games, especially after having 2 good games for England with 2 goals to boot. I think he should stay, with the amount of games we have this season we need him more than most other players and I would start him over Sanchez.

if he wants to be a CF then he prob would be better of leaving, Jose usually likes a big stong forward and no matter how bad Lukkau done at times last year he always played. not sure why people are getting there knickers in a twist about the comments surely everyone could see it. he looks a completely different player playing for England then he does playing for United right now.
Can't he play the Eto'o Inter Milan role off to the right of Lukaku?

Rashford is average as of now with a huge potential and that is about it. If we play attacking football, where do you play him? You drop Sanchez or Lukaku?

Idk what its here, it's like people are not ready to wait. Sanchez is almost (or 30). Rashford will not get many big games in the coming seasons, should he go? Its upto him but nothing is easy at United. Look at Januzaj, Welbeck n all. He will be fine under Jose.

He's 20 years old ffs, plenty of cup games in the season to play CF and I doubt Lukaku will play every minute of every game in the league + Europe. Everytime this even comes up it makes me facepalm in utter disbelief that these agenda-driven fecktards get paid to spew this drivel.

What team keeps one striker in their ranks?! The media have always loved a good shit-chatting about United but it's reaching new ridiculous levels in recent times.

He’s a striker and I hate how he’s shoe horned wide.

For me, Rashford, Lukaku, Sanchez and Martial are all far better centrally. We should be playing a formation with 2 upfront.

For all his bluster, effort and running, Rashford can't finish to save his life, is not a goal poacher or deadly finisher.
He's merely an impact sub when we are struggling. He only got his debut because LVG had no one else to play when we had injuries.
Talk of Rashers being world class are laughable, he can't get in the first 11 which so far this season have been shite.

Oh look, Marcus scores for England and ex Liverpool pundits are worried all of a sudden if he'll make it as a wc striker.

Sounds legit.

The biggest load of rubbish I have ever read.

Some people just spout nonsense narratives with nothing to back it up.

Anyway, Rashford has featured in around 50 games in the 2 seasons under Mourinho. No way would he get that many appearances for any of the other top PL sides. And in the majority of them appearances he has done nothing to warrant that he should start regularly. If he wasn’t local he would probably have been sold by now. But if he got sold there would be hell on because he is a Manc lad.

To be fair he is still young, but anyone who thinks he should start over Lukaku right now should give up watching football.

Utter rubbish - not a single person with a head would sell a decent player like him because he is simply struggling under Jose. Notice what's happening with Martial who actually wants to get out of here?

Jose had 2 players to manage with just a 10% bit of extra care at the start of his tenure - Rashford & Martial and both are suddenly trash

I'm sorry - I don't believe it's their fault until they struggle under a technical tactical manager :D

You can tell me all you want how Rashford & Martial would not be under any other clubs first team - the fact is and is actually backed by what other ex football critics are saying - that if any other manager was at United; Rashford would be better off. God under Klopp or Guardiola - there would almost be no reason to buy sterling or mane because Rashford has the ability to play those roles down to an absolute tee - considering he is 20 and will grow over time.

Anyway no need to believe you - I will continue to listen to the ex professional footballing players & agree with them thinking that Rashford is being so so so so poorly managed by Jose.

Played him to compete as a LW with Martial to primarily cross balls in to Lukaku - the better Andy Carroll :D

Why does Klopp only use Solanke as a 80th minute sub when Liverpool are desperately trying to lump the ball into the box? He's ruining him. Someone save him.

Solanke isn't even any good

It's not even about that - It would be stupid to play Solanke In a front 3 that play great attacking football, that do not make mistakes, takes their chances in deadly fashion, got in to CL final.

We on the other hand play a target man who isn't a target man in his own words, we have no RW yet we continue to use 'fake' RW's in Mata and Lingard through out Jose's inexcusable tenure, left wingers are also make shift & replaced with one who might have aged.

Is it too hard to play two strikers and no right wingers - when we don't have a right winger? When we don't have a target man who cant control his feelings when he loses touch of the ball?

Now that Jose has given up on his 2 year tactics he might be opening up to some 352 finally - but to act like Rashford has been adequately managed is wrong - we played with one striker and 2 wingers when we didn't have 3 players that could play exquisitely the way Liverpool'front three fit in their roles.

Diabolical, self shooting on the foot management. Choose 2 strikers Jose - no one is going to tell you off for being a bit more attacking

Look at the narrative

England are ‘worried’ that Liverpool are ‘damaging’ Solanke, who has not even featured on a matchday bench this campaign.

But really, the Three Lions should be thanking the Reds for helping develop and nurture two of the national team’s most promising young players.

Still, Southgate has expressed his desire that Solanke “will start to get games and develop” at some point.

Liverpool the best place for Dominic Solanke with Anfield an England breeding ground

Quick! Defend Liverpool! How dare you criticise them! They gave you Arnold and Gomez! What did United give you apart from Rashford, Lingard and Shaw! Forget that they also provided you with your world cup LB last year as well!

Average player that has shown a plateau if not a regression in his development. The thing is, he can play out wide and has had good games playing there. He just hasn’t excelled further. Play him up front he’s more likely to score a goal, but so does any other player. It doesn’t change the fact that his development has stalled

Great, let's change formation, tactics, hindering the clubs balance or whatever they are trying to do these last few weeks just to try to fit Rashford to help him improve and be that main man for the club and England (where we know is impossible because guess-what he has Kain as the striker).

Why don't all the pundits tell Rashford to change his country to some other that can make him their only main striker rather than stay with England and hindering all his generational talents playing subs to Kain.

The player is 20 yrs old. We really can't provide every players all the playing times they desire then there would be no squad players as we know it. Lukaku is here to stay, he's ready to step into his peak in a year or two. Rashford is like most of the young players that are young, they become squad players in big club. They'll be that when they have chances to prove that they can make the step up and be that main man. To become that main man in a big club like United, really does need more that talents. You have to have perfect timing, confidences from the manager, players, fans, and the sheer confidence in yourself not to crumble upon pressure to score and win every game. He's not there yet as proving last season.

Just support the club as a whole rather than individual players.

On the point of Rashford, this is just the usual "look at me look at me" type of stuff D grade players turned journalists trot out for some attention.

Rashford would have been poking his head through into the squad right now were it not for LVG's farcical and developmentally dangerous youth policy. He's got to get his head down and continue to work and develop his game. Local lads get rewarded at this club, would be silly for him to even think about leaving.

It’s pretty simple. Has Rashford improved from the kid that broke through 2 years ago? No!

I don’t really care about his appearance stats the guy has stagnated. After this season if things remain the same he will have to evaluate what he wants from his career abit like Lukaku had to at Chelsea. If we are honest and he’s still getting the same level of sub par appearances and coaching, he’ll need to move.

It was always going to be next on the topic of conversation after we got bored of talking about Martial.

No he hasn’t and that for me is why he needs to be playing week in week out. And for a team that suits his style.

I’d hate to lose him but for me he needs a loan or transfer for the sake of fulfilling his potential.
