Do not want Simeone or Conte or anyone who is insistent on that style of play.
Bielsa was an interesting shout. Hadn't considered that. Perhaps Woodward can phone up whoever owns Leeds now and ask about buying their physio, then casually ask if Bielsa is available. Would definitely work again.

I genuinely only want Pochettino for the job. He was my choice when we appointed Jose, and he is still my choice. Don't know if it is possible to get him, but if there is even the slightest possibility of getting him, then we would be fools to go after any one else.
Not an option, just signed a new contract to continue his Spurs project, seems pretty entrenched and happy where he is, much like Klopp and his Liverpool project.

Why don’t we try and tempt Pep ? Long shot perhaps but if you don’t ask you don’t get. Break the bank for him, the amount of money we keep spending on pay offs would have financed him on a ridiculous wage.

We are losing the allure of being Manchester United and need to try and get back to the days of not just the Fergie era but many years before when the mere mention of United would have other managers virtually handing in their notices.

Not as stupid as it sounds. City got Pep by courting him for three years. He will at some point be bored at City and go looking for a new challenge. What we really need to do is appoint a manager who we can sack without fanfare when the right person does become available. Like Pellegrini when he was at City.

The point is that we will remain poor until we get a coach who can actually coach above average players into world class players. That's the one thing we haven't had for a very long time.

We've actually had about 5 years to figure the answer to that question...and I still don't believe that we are anywhere near solving it..!
Yeah, but if the reports of us hiring a DoF are true, it seems we're at least thinking about the question now.

I think that, after the chaos of Moyes, we just wanted to stop the rot as quickly as possible. Hence hiring the two biggest names we could get when their predecessors' regimes unravelled. We wanted to stop the bleeding as soon as possible and find a shortcut.

Perhaps now there's a realisation that this policy hasn't worked. That we need to put some kind of structure in place. Last year we revamped the scouting operation, this year we're reportedly hiring a DoF. Woodward has even talked about stepping back, I believe.

Zidane won't be a long-term appointment but hopefully he'll give us time to identify a successor. There are very few decent options at the moment but we should already to be looking to the manager after Zidane.

Sack him. Bring in Thierry Henry as care-manager for the rest of the season, and play the same tactic that Belgium used back in world cup. martial on the left, Sanchez as false 9, Lukaku as Right side target man. Also i think Henry will have the respect from Pogba and martial as well. Then go for Zidane in the summer.

Said it in another thread:

Not really interested in a big name replacement. If Carrick wants it, I would give to him and reassess at the end of season.

Needs to be someone that the players will gets on with and respect. And presumably his style of play will be similar to how he played the game.
If Jose was to go before the end of the season, which I think the owners won't do until the point where it is impossible to qualify for the Champions League. I think that Carrick could well do a job until the end of the season, but regardless of how well he does I think the owners will try for the biggest name that they can get, who they think will get us into 4th place regardless of what type of football the new manager plays. They dont care at all what the fans think as long as the money keeps coming in and they can milk as much out of our club as possible.

Considering how we try to steal Chelsea rejects, can see conte being the next manager. Won't be too disappointed but we can do better. Zidane or conte? I would be ok with either.

Pep will only go where he has his comfort level. He was always going to city and he wont take a mounting task of managing a shrinking ship which needs repairing. I don't blame him. Our job I'm, as glamorous as it sounds, is a risky one. Jose would be feeling sick of coming to this United and would be feeling he should have chosen PSG.

think Leonardo Jardim would be the best choice. Similar to Jurgen Klopp in how he beat a dominant team to the league title. Surely it would be easier to get him if we put in a good offer especially since AS Monaco are not doing very well at the moment. Would get the best out of Martial and Pogba as well. Been saying he is the right choice from the very beginning.
I feel like us pro Jardim campaigners don't have much support. I have no idea why given he ticks every box.

His team are 3rd bottom in their league! Is that what we're aspiring to?
Nope we're aspiring for the team he built that won ligue 1 and got to the semis in the CL playing a brand of football we United fans would appreciate.

Now if that team wasn't destroyed by the money teams, some that they beat on the way and had then more quality added in their weak areas then it would've been amazing.

What, as fans, do we actually want? Is it success, or playing youth, or trophies, or attacking football or a combination? I've seen a bit of each thrown around recently.

Would we be annoyed if Simeone came in, played even more boring football but delivered trophies based on defensive strength? Would we eventually tire of playing attacking football only to not win trophies at the end of the season?

Very difficult for the board to manage all the competing interests, particularly when there is no stand out candidate they can pin their colours to and say 'this is what we are doing now'.

The only things for certain are that (1) a new long term manager will demand a substantial sum of money to spend or the guarantee of new players (particularly defenders) and (2) the boards' interests are not the same as the fans).
We want it all, you know, like we used to have it.

If someone here had suggested Sarri a couple of years ago how many would have agreed?

The right manager is out there somewhere and it’s not our job to find him - the board at United need to get much better at identifying the manager the team needs to take it forward.

With the right homework, and the right support given to the chosen candidate, I think there’d be far more people who could do the job well than we imagine.

Judging him how others are currently judging Jose (who has built numerous title winning teams and even won the Champions League, whilst scoring a huge number of goals). Obviously his brand of football is now outdated and he's past it...

It's outdated cause he lost all the quality in the team? Jose is being given money and isnt making it happen like he used to before. His tactic to combat these modern coaches is to park buses something he didn't do when he was at the top of his fgame.

If we sack Jose in next week or two, do you think that Poch would be available? He is my first pick. After Jose of course:D

The sad and worrying fact is , that it makes no difference who we appoint whatsoever unless things change at the top. I want Jose out as much as most others , but I just don't see a change of manager making any difference whatsoever if nothing else changes above him.

I'm not sure what the people at the top have to do either than provide funds and stay out of the way. That's what they've been doing but sadly they've hired the wrong people.

He could be available at the end of this season. I just can't see how he can stay motivated with this Spurs team when Chelsea, Liverpool, and City are all stronger and have far more resources.

I think you're in a great position if you sack mourinho immediately. You can try a risky appointment for the rest of the season and if that doesn't work you can go for someone more established next year. For example someone like Giggs, Arteta, Henry this year. And if they do well you can continue with them else go all out for Pochettino in the summer

Don’t you think thats the precise problem? Who in the board will do the homework and stick his neck out on an upcoming manager? Between the glazers, Ed Woodward, Richard Arnold and others, there are not enough people with the right experience to choose the right man. What we will end up is a big name like Zidane, irrespective of whether he is the right man for the job because no in the board either has enough experience or conviction to make a seemingly risky call on an up and coming manager.

Knowing what it takes is not all it takes. We are talking about a coach, a manager, not a motivator.
That makes no sense. Of course, they have to be able to motivate the players. We need a strong Manager who is surrounded by top quality coaching staff. A togetherness (like a family you would say) that is able to get the players on board, not throw them under the bus. Having said that we also need players that is prepared to put the club first.

I'd like to try and get a long-term replacement in asap as it will give the manager around 6 months to assess who he wants in and who he wants out. This way recruitment in the first summer might actually make sense as opposed having to wait nearly an entire year again.

Provide a vision for the future. Put an actual long term plan in place rather than just appoint whoever is available at the time. Look at the way City had a vision years ago and worked towards it. I don't see any long term planning whatsoever at the moment , or since Fergie left.
Put problems start at the top.

Surely the vision is the man you hire? Since you brought it up, let's look at city. They hired an ultra attacking manager who plays a specific brand of football. Now given they've given him the means to play the brand of football it's been done. Pretty had we hired Pep and given him 400 million quid he'd have us playing good football and competing at the high end of the league. All they really have to do is have some continuity from a football standpoint and they'll be competitive for a long time.

It will need to be someone who can take on the media and win, someone who can handle player power, someone who knows how to play attacking football and someone who comes with the experience of winning trophies.

Zidane for me

Can someone explain the calls for Henry or Arteta? Based on what?

And Wenger? Seriously? Imagine being told 2 years ago we'd be in such a mess that a fair few caftards would be calling for United to employ Wenger?

What are people's thoughts on Eddie Howe? Young, talented English manager who is doing a tremendous job at Bournemouth and has them playing some decent stuff.

I know he's untested, but he could be the next big thing in managerial terms.

Just sack Mourinho first and put Conte or Zidane in charge till the end of the season. In the mean time get the right DOF in, who can then bring in the full time manager from the summer.

I’d rather have Mourinho over most of the suggestions here aka Jardim, Howe, Blanc, Deschamps, Wenger(not funny...)
I didn’t mention Zidane because his CL is absolutely mind-boggling and out of sheer curiosity what he could do with this group of players, but if I had to bet my life on it I wouldn’t pick the option of him doing better than Mourinho.

First of all we must get a DoF on board as soon as possible, build a plan and start from there patiently.
If Mourinho’s methods are not in tune with the said plan then find someone who’ll fit that plan.

I don’t think there’s a single manager who’s available and who could lead us back to a title challenge withing the next 2 years at best.
It’ll take more than that, with or without Mourinho. Without long term plan of where the club is heading it’ll take a lot more than that, maybe a one title in a flukey season ala Leicester and then back to relative obscurity.
