What does cook the books mean? I'm not well up on stuff like that.
Generally you'd hide money to pay less tax. Citys problem was they didnt have enough money coming in to cover their transfer fees etc and were going to fall foul of ffp, so it appears the owner gave city money and to make up the shortfall and they said it was sponsorship money.

Note i have only see the tweet and not read the article but thats my understanding of it based entirely on the tweet.

Someone thats had the time to read the article may clarify

When I read last year that City are renting the stadium but somehow get the naming rights money too. I knew then that something was for sure dodgy. Someone at the council took a check to enable this.

No, they cannot. It would have to be declared as a paid article. That doesn't mean underhand practices dont take place but its not remotely as widespread as people seem to believe.
Thanks for clearing that up although the way city have been covered by the press makes me think there's something shady going on with the british press.

I find the level of delusion from certain fans of these teams incredible. At the time that these totally legitimate sponsorship deals were signed they were probably receiving close the the respective club's entire value on a year to year basis. As stated in the article these were found to be ludicrously overvalued and of substantial benefit to the club, yet I see a City fan in this thread arguing the idea that these were anything other than legitimate and of fair value.

You will also see the same arguments from City fans regarding the fact that financial fair play was an awful idea only brought in to ensure the big boys do well. Because God forbid that on field success and good work commercially be rewarded.
What? You don't agree that clubs being run legitimately and having success both on and off the pitch as a result should not be punished as a result?

You just want the hedgamoney of the big clubs to continue...

Even at its most benign, City are known to ensure that journalists are 'well-fed', and also given expensive gifts (at Xmas etc).

Yeah the wine and dine aspect of Sports journalism came up when Moyes was here and people were wondering why no one criticized him

This is more to do with the soft power exercised at the higher level rather than the journalists themselves , mostly they are like me or you, just normal joes. Also it is worth noticing from these articles how City and PSG were happy to sue UEFA into oblivion, if there is anything that will make a media outlet slam on the breaks its a lawsuit and these lot throw them out like confetti. It's shit but lawyers sure have done a number in this area.

A few years ago, when we accused City of cooking the books, they said it wasn't true.
Now they say it's old news.

And even this litigiousness is a form of corruption.

Rumours that one of the leaks that is coming has set the arse twitching of one or two Spanish medical practitioners...

I'll never forget being present at Wembley 2011. They ran and ran and ran some more. I have no doubts. I'd love to see justice in my lifetime.
Be nice to be handed the 2009 and 2011 trophy

It's not really anything we didn't already know but its nice someone is going out to prove it and show the world. It still amazes me that FIFA/UEFA backed down so easily over the threats of excluding PSG and City from the Champions League; it's not like anybody would care if they weren't there.
The bank accounts of UEFA/FIFA executives will care very much.

Sadly, Uefa isn't or rather is unable to do much against these gulf clubs given their financial and political muscle in the sport. As such, the only solution the big clubs have is to form a break away league, consisting of clubs running on genuine revenue or individual fortunes, rather than sovereign wealth. Let see if Uefa wanna continue according to City and PSG.

I very much doubt anything will happen to City or PSG even with credible proofs. They will 'settle' it with UEFA and PL again, if things go that far.

City and PSG are already part of the proposed “super league”

What? You don't see the magic of billionaires and royal families taking over football clubs, spending a fortune and running away with trophies? What could possibly be more iconic!

But seriously, I'll sound like a cribby crab, but I see a general lack of this across the league's. Spain is seeing both the top sides in a transitional phase and the rivalry has weakened albiet with Barcelona still being better at getting results and hence leading. England has City as the dominant force and fecking Liverpool tailing them. Hurray. Serie A is a one team league. The French league is a one team league. Bundesliga is, I suppose, more fascinating than usual with the status quo being shaken up this year.

Last PL season that was special and unique was Liecester City's title win. That was one for the ages.

Also, when was the last time we had a real PL title race? We used to have one nearly every bloody year earlier with us and Arsenal/City/Chelsea fighting it out. We haven't had a real one since 13/14. It's madness and I feel like no one in the media is missing this part of football?

Yeah im surprised at how easily people have allowed themselves to be swept along with the changes of recent times. Money talks unfortunately and football is making a lot of people very rich. The downside is people like those at city have bottomless funds. The fact that this story isn't sexy enough just isn't good enough. How can anyone watch them have a scottish premiership style romp against a decent pl team- again- the same week this is breaking, and the overwhelming voices be ones of admiration. How can fans of other clubs revel in our demise and be so ignorant that our inevitable post ferguson slump would leave the door open. But city have just bought the top. Utterly pointless for a big club like west ham everton Newcastle to even aspire for top 4. City went crazy and those that could try keep up did-widening the gap even more

That is the thing that sticks with me. What City have done is no different to what Lance Armstrong did with PEDs. He was rightly disgraced and removed from history. I understand City fans defending their club but the press and other clubs showering admiration on City is something I can't fathom. Why glorify a club who got there by cheating the system and making a mockery of the rules?

If it was any other sport youd have to imagine it would be a major story. So much for infantino being a new face

I wonder if jose will have the nerve to make a dig about it this weekend. Might become a story then such is the low brow nature of the press

But I thought City’s income was just the work of their amazing commercial team, at least that’s what @M18CTID and some other city fans on here said.

What's more irritating is the faux outrage and disgust by big clubs supporters over City's alleged misconduct ,Martin Samuel of Daily Mail has written a brilliant article about this why FFP is big farce designed to maintain status quo and I for one is in complete agreement with him.

I don't think anyone is denying that FFP is a farce, what's more the issue here is how City are flouting the rules so obviously and seem to be getting away with it.

I believe City's hand was basically forced they simply behaved in a manner most rich behave when something is denied to them they found a way around it ,yes City's dealing might not be above board but whole of premise of FFP is dodgy UEFA was coerced by Traditional Elite because they felt threatened and similarly they could have been bribed by City to get around it. Nobody comes out of it looking good.

Are you being serious?

We've got two clubs being ran as state vanity projects who have got unlimited supplies of cash despite it not having a lot to do with football.

FFP shouldn't be needed really but sadly it is. Being owned by a billionaire is no longer enough. Now you need a regime behind you.

PSG n City are the worst thing to happen to football in the modern era.

I’m not understanding your argument.
Clubs who have earned their status and reputation through years of hard work, investment and success shouldn’t care that others are emulating their achievements through, essentially cheat codes.
Or are you implying that all big clubs have engaged in misconduct therefore City should also be allowed to? If so, where’s the evidence?
Finally, Martin Samuel has been sucking off City for years, I don’t think he’s come up for air since Guardiola joined them. So I’m not sure why his opinion should be taken as authority.

This idea that the big clubs wanting to maintain the status quo being equivalent to fraud, is mind boggling to me.

My point is fairly simple most of the big club's had big injection of investment at some point in their history which gave them advantages or allowed them to bridge the gap why suddenly it's a problem now if the owners want to invest their money not as a loan but as gift where is the problem why you want to deny smaller club's a chance to ever compete against the big boys and win.

What big clubs are those? Be specific and name examples.

Also the problem isn’t that City have a sugar daddy, the problem is that City’s sugar daddy is making fraudulent deals. That’s corruption and it shouldn’t be allowed regardless of who the ‘big boys’ are.
Thirdly, what City are doing isn’t taking down the ‘big boys’ or breaking up the elite, they’ve simply joined them and are actively trying to shake the tag of being considered a small club. So all they’ve done is join the group.
They haven’t bridged the gap or made it easier for other small clubs to follow in their footsteps.

City are going to come out of all of this with an awful reputation at the very least.

It was always going to end in tears.

I think FFP isn't really a good thing, I'm not a fan of it.
But the idea that state sponsored clubs should be allowed to spend what ever they want is insane. These are clubs backed by funds running into hundreds of billions. It doesn't make sense.
The thing is there isn't much UEFA can do apart from ban them from their competition.
The law isn't on UEFA's side .

Juventus ,Milan ,Inter even United to name few regarding City's fraudulent deals you need to understand why it came to that because UEFA came up with farcical FFP almost making it impossible for smaller club's to ever compete with big boys.Of course end game for City is to join elite and become one of the big boys , you can't deny they have shaken up the status quo . Please elaborate how a small club could dream to compete with established elites if outside investment is throttled because that's what FFP ends up doing .
