Smash and grab, but very, very satisfying. Thought the team spirit was great, but we are still soooo sloppy with our passing in general. The idea is there, the application is not.

That said, HUGE 3pts for us in terms of qualifying and morale in general. Awesome.

France - can't win anything with Swedish turnips
Missed the match last night - choir practice.

Didn't start as badly as we have been and although didn't offer much going forward looked more solid.
Same as usual though, reactive instead of proactive.

Was largely smash and grab but if we actually impose our game on the opposition, we might actually not need to keep coming from behind.

Although we rode our luck at times, I was absolutely furious with Lindelof for the goal, so weak and so lacking in awareness, how many times will he do this.
Martial was as usual the main threat and caused them problems. Pogba was quiet and the right hand side was AWOL as usual when Lingard plays, another invisible pointless performance.
Sending on Mata and Fellaini changed everything.
Ronaldo was kept pretty quiet until he decided to avoid Smalling and latch onto Lindelof.

Excellent result, however we got it.

What surprised me most (well, despite the result) was that it was an old-fashioned Fergie-era proper European away tie performance. Everyone actually studied the game plan and kept to it. Once again, I thought Lindelof was massive. Dybala was kept comparatively quiet. Things really changed with the substitutions. They panicked at the sight of Fellaini and fell into the trap we have so often recently: thought one was enough and when they had to adapt to our changes, they got it all wrong. It was a good game to watch and Ronaldo's goal was just a joy (i=even if it was against us). How I wish we had Bonucci and Chielini though. Was a bit disapppointed with Rashford - he keeps missing gilt-edged chances. Hppy to admit, I got the result very wrong but will stick with the belief that Pogba is a clown

You’ve completely missed the whole point of my post.
Ok.

I was responding to this:

but instead the post match interviews make it sound like they are vastly superior
And saying that they obviously are. The point of your post was to probably lament the fact that we're no longer the big dogs when it comes to Europe. I don't think i missed the point of it, really. Just merely affirming the belief that we're not in the same company as Juve.

I can't believe how many are saying the second goal was lucky. No luck about it. An absolutely spot on, perfect delivery from Young - if the defenders leave it, a Utd player puts it in; if they go for it, it hits them and goes in. The latter happens. Zero input from the 'keeper too. A decent performance from Utd and a result to match.

The keeper palmed it onto the Juve defenders head?

As delighted as I am with the result. I have never seen De Gea as angry with the defence as he was last night, the space smalling lindelof etc gave them to shoot in and around the area was criminal. Juve are so dangerous from long shots and we just continually backed off them, even on the edge of our own box.

Don't know what happened but we were lucky and thank God we really need that luck. But we were not that good team and we still shy to attack only blame Jose. And wtf Jose did? Why ? That's so embarrassing for the club.
Oh shut it. Jose's celebration was EXACTLY what he should have done. In fact, he probably did a lit bit too little. He should've gone over the top. Those pathetic juve fans were chanting about his family.

Jose is a boss.

We need to let him loose so he can be the Jose of old.

Noticed that myself last night. Felt good to see him having a go, would like to see him doing it more often in a way Schemeichel used to keep his back four on their toes. Good win away from home. My only gripe was Rashford simply has to do better when ono on one.

And hope City hit the post half a dozen times like Juve.
Juve did not hit the post half a dozen times.
We could've made it 3-1, had Rashford scored from his one on one, at the end.
In any case, it doesn't matter, on the night, we were the better team, as our players were able to direct the ball, into the net.
We didn't have any dodgy decisions go our way - we won fair and square.

He needs to do this more often. There are no leaders in our defence and he really should step up to the plate, especially as he is our best player. He should have the confidence to be able to organise our defence, the way he wants.

Well at least we all agree that it was the two David Moyes signings that turned the match in our favour...
Could it really be that David Moyes was planning for his 2 new signings to help beat Juventus, 5 years into the future? That evil genius...

Is this the same team which played against Juventus at Old Trafford? If we can beat City this weekend, then this team might have just turned the corner and ready to challenge for the league.
Don't jinx us man. :p

But I know where you are coming from. The mentality of the team is incredible. Such a shame that they did not fight harder in the OT-leg.
At the time, although we could come back against the likes of Newcastle, I think the players lacked belief that they could do Juve in the same way. After we played CFC and did it to them as well, I think the players (and manager) slowly grew their belief that they can do amazing comebacks, even against the top teams.

I'd like to see how our players respond if we are 1-0 down at HT, at the Emptihad. Do they have the ability to dismantle MCFC in the 2nd half? Do we dare to believe?

there are a lot of stupid fans in this forum celebrating the win. No doubt a win is a win. but do these guys see how bad we played?

Lingard in attacking midfield again? Matic continued his poor poor form and not being substituted? What an awful 80 minutes for Man Utd until funny Allegri used 5 centre backs and gave up midfield control that caused their game.

No fantasy. Again another game ruined by stupidity of both managers. You dare to watch these nights after nights ?

The number 1 priority in football, any sport actually is to win. Playing amazing free flowing fluid football comes 2nd.

Are you even a United fan if you can't be happy with beating one of the top 3 teams in the world at their home ground whilst they were unbeaten in all competitions until last night?

Sometimes teams have to win ugly.

Christ man.

Napoli defeated Liverpool and Inter defeated Spurs.
Liverpool beat PSG who are stronger than Juventus. Spurs are stronger than any team juve have faced this season apart from us.
In a one off game of course they could win.

Just watched the match. How the F**k can anyone watch the match and said we went for a draw? We went toe to toe with them. Yes juve was wasteful but we had our missed chances too.

Is there a chance they will face city in the knockout stages?

Would be hilarious when they beat them.
Not sure if they will be facing City, but to think that any PL team will roll over this Juve team is in cuckoo land. They have a rock solid defense, excellent midfield and two absolutely lethal players up top. Any team will have a tough time against them, especially in Turin.

Debatable whether PSG are stronger than Juve. Midfield might be a bit better, but Juve are no slouch in attack or defense.

Besides, Liverpool beat PSG at home. We won in Turin, a notoriously difficult ground.

And also beat PSG 3-2. Who are better than Juventus or on the same level at least.
According to that math logic, Red Star Belgrade would crush Juve. Am I doing it right? Also, the PSG win was at Anfield, not in Paris (in case you forgot that we have just beaten Juve in Turin).

They hadn’t been beaten all season, cheer up
Yeah, in your head.
Ok, I thought Liverpool lost yesterday against the mighty Red Star Belgrade, Spurs got a late winner against PSV, and I can't seem to find what team Chelsea are playing in the CL.

You have had too much Red Bull, go to bed.
Liverpool just lost to Red Star, Spurs' comeback against PSV is basically the same, and Chelsea didn't qualify for the competition because they're too good for it. City though? Now you're taking the piss.
Ridiculous. Juventus are a much better team than Spurs, Liverpool & Chelsea. City would give them a game but those other three you have mentioned wouldn’t turn this Juve side over
Seemed to have ruffled a few feathers.
Listen juve are a good team but imo fans and media overrated them too much.
I watched them season many games and they struggled a few games even against some weak teams.
All of the teams I mentioned would take them all the way at the very least.

Psg better or on par with juventus..... really?? Psg are for a poorer league with no competition and in Europe they have been bluffers and bottlers when it mattered. Juventus are in strong league, yes they won it 7times in a row but likes of napoli roma inter are getting closer and better than anything in psg league. Juventus will go far in Europe this season, personally I think they'll win it or lose in final. And I think psg will fall at first big hurdle. Neymar hasn't the stones to pull a team through when he needs too, as for Ronnie, been there and done it season after season.

Barzagli, that's 2 games in a row he's come on and he hasn't looked good or added a benefit to the team. First game at OT he did that needless push on Rashford in the box late on, silly thing to do in a game they dominated so much. Yesterday his introduction meant they went to a back 3, as soon as they did that, the balance looked off. I get that we upped the ante to, but to change formation when the backline looked so secure up to that point. At the end of the day, Juve take their chances, they win, they didn't we did

I think something we have to keep in mind is that it's the group stage. It's nice to win and provides a good confidence boost. Did it matter much to Juve? Probably not. They're still top and will still finish top. Mattered way more for us. Reminds me of Spurs beating Real Madrid last year, City beating Bayern at their peak while City struggled, things like that. It's the group stage, and these things happen.

So while we should take confidence from it, we shouldnt get carried away. Laughable to claim it's our best result of the Mourinho era, or post Fergie era. We've played in and won far more important games then yesterdays. It was a nice win, but we probably would've gone through had we lost the game anyway.

No, not Lisbon..Lisburn!
Those last five minutes gave us some joyful moments, and those have been few and far between in the last five years. We are still very much a work in progress and there is much to be done. I just don't understand people like Juvelish and other posters on here who are so butt hurt by the way we won and just concentrate on Jose's star turn. How dare us beat Juventus, huh!
It may annoy some people but they just go on and on and on and on.....!

Not the point though. You are right, it wasn't a final or anything but football is about these sudden bursts of excitement when the stars seem to align for your team, regardless of the fixture. We weren't watching it as an intellectual exercise.

Fellaini didn't play 1st game, re game yesterday, surely Chiellini could be trusted to handle Fellaini. Maybe the pace of Rashford scared them a little, but for whatever reason they did it, it knocked their rhythm off.

High chance that Juve didn't try that hard anyway, whether due to overconfidence or not really needing a result. We've had big results under Mourinho before while being outplayed, I don't think that this one was any different.

Ok.

I was responding to this:

And saying that they obviously are. The point of your post was to probably lament the fact that we're no longer the big dogs when it comes to Europe. I don't think i missed the point of it, really. Just merely affirming the belief that we're not in the same company as Juve.
But why the hell would you take one sentence (in fact, worse still, part of a sentence) and respond to it? Like, it’s quite obviously apparent they are superior to us. But that’s not what the post was about. So no real value in affirming it.

Anyway, yes, I was indeed lamenting that our players now feel like they’ve taken down a giant they aren’t in the same class with, and they are right. The fact they talk like that and the fact they are not wrong is what’s sad. Sad that it’s got to this point.

Yeah apart from when they lost 0-3 to RM in the quarter final.
This is a Juventus side with FREAKING RONALDO added in, and we beat them. The team with the driving force that led Real Madrid to 3 consecutive Champions League is no joke. You used the case of Juventus losing to Real Madrid while totally ignoring which side Ronaldo was on at that moment.
