Palace are new to the league - they were in the regional league structure last year. They got into the Championship on appeal after Sheffield and Doncaster Belles dropped out (on financial grounds).

Palace picked up a few headlines earlier in the season because they asked their women's reserve team players to go out and raise £250 in sponsorship (or pay it themselves) to help fund the team. Zaha, amongst others, responded to the sponsorship appeal. They're working hard to stay in this league.

It's worth noting that none of this is United's fault. :smirk: The league's rules talk about offering a minimum number of training hours, and a minimum number of qualified professional coaches etc, not a maximum.

Palace are currently tenth, of eleven teams - W1, D1, L5. That doesn't mean we can afford to be casual (or even merciful). Our nearest rivals - Durham, Charlton, Spurs - have already taken 3 points off them and most of their games have been quite close, so the game still has to be won.

Is it on MUTV?

Not on MUTV - any live coverage will have to come from Palace themselves.

Like most Championship clubs, it looks like Palace record all their games and put highlights up on their YouTube channel.

I've not seen any mention of them doing a live feed at the moment.
Just wish we paid more attention to the women's games. Surely it wouldn't take much to take a couple of cameras down there and a commentator/co-commentator. It is an international break, they have nothing else to show.

I don't think it's about the cameras (Palace will record it). At this level, with the type of stadia they're using, they may not have reliable enough broadband to do a live feed, or facilities to do a clear commentary track. United won't want to send out a crew that can't actually broadcast it properly.

Whether we could pay Palace to try might be a different matter. I guess they might not want to set that kind of precedent.

Shame as they are much more entertaining to watch than the men. They are missing out on pulling an audience in.

I’m betting a friend that United will beat Palace with ten goals in aggregate in the women’s and men’s game combined. (Luckily, I don’t have any City friends).

We should win this game. In my opinion games vs Spurs and Durham are the toughest ones.

Too bad there will be no TV/stream coverage. I couldn't figure it out now that United in Championship, the FA should promote it better, even YouTube /twitter/facebook broadcast are better than nothing. Maybe because it's second tier and interest is so low unless United come to town. Heck even WSL doesn't broadcast every game like US NWSL and Australia W League. I guess the women's game in UK still behind US and Australia in term of public interest.

The WSNL(US) get an average 8000+ attendences. We have along way to go.

Even if Palace could do it, I don't think they've got a lot of incentive to try to broadcast it themselves. Their pre-match buildup video has about 100 views on YouTube, and their typical highlights get about 500. Plus, we should give them their best crowd of the season - and they may think broadcasting it could reduce that.

For the BBC and BT, they only take one WSL1 match each per week - and those are sometimes website only. This weekend gives them even less incentive than normal, England-Croatia will be on at 2pm, that's a hard game to compete with.

Think we are at home next Sunday, so as the men are playing on the Saturday, they should be showing that one.

Yes - we've got Millwall at home next Sunday. Hopefully MUTV will have it, there's no real excuse not to show the 12noon home games, particularly when the men play on Saturday.

I still keep checking the fixtures list, hoping to see our Durham home League Cup match rescheduled - so it doesn't clash with the Arsenal game. I think that's the kind of scheduling thing that has to change to help the women's game grow.

Having encouraged the men's teams to support women's teams, they've got to let the fans/club treat them as belonging to the same club. Forcing the fans and the club TV channel to choose between teams, on a match day, is just wrong. Of course, it's early days for women's football and its switch to a winter season, so it would be nice to think these are just teething troubles. :wenger:

Great goal! Well, it was probably a good goal anyway...
I'm at the game, the keeper came rushing out and once she didn't get there (she didn't need to come given how narrow the angle was) it was a simple pass across by Hanson to give Arnot a tap in. Straight from the kick off Palace could have had a penalty (their player went off injured in the end) and there have been two other stoppages for injuries so it's been stop-start since the goal.

Although as I write this United have just missed from six yards. Feck, should be 2-0.

Thanks for the update. Hope you're enjoying the game!

At least the Palace twitter account is giving us regular updates of what's happening in the match. So far, we've literally just had that one tweet since KO from Utd's account telling us we've scored.

Arnot gets her second, really dangerous ball in by Greenwood.

Really taking control now eh?
The second half has been so much better. The injuries meant the first half had no flow but United have passed the ball better since half time, too many aimless direct balls in the first half.

Sigsworth must have come on at some point in the second half.
She came on at half time, it was a terrific save from close range and then Sigsworth almost scored again from the resulting corner, just volleyed wide.

James comes on and beats two players straight away to win a penalty. Greenwood tucks it away, 4-0.
