If you're saying they all flopped (which I don't agree with), I don't know why you wouldn't include Ibra too? He was alright, but awfully wasteful, and was completely useless 2nd season.

Jose out, Jose in, it's all debatable. However, for me, Jose has never said anything but the truth. Said we would have a tough season, it has been one. Said we needed a new CB, and we do. Said some players lack maturity, and they do. Said pundits have it easy and should try the managers bench before criticising, and well all know that's true (and it's odd how ex-players who haven't worked with him heavily criticise, yet those who have say he is one of the best [Lampard, Drogba, Cole, Zlatan, even Hazard came out recently and said he'd like to work with him again, which is odd considering most fans on here think he can't man manage).

Like him or not, he's always spoken the truth. Maybe fans can't handle the truth.
Any truth about himself?

"We don't score enough goals but is not about Marcus," Mourinho said. "Is about us as a team, is very difficult for us to score goals. But Marcus makes the movements, makes the runs, works hard when the team has the ball and doesn't have the ball."

"And I can never, never blame a player because of missing chances. Can I have on the touchline, where not a lot of the ones that comment [on] football, they were there? Not many of them were there, can myself or another manager have a reaction of frustration? I would invite that people to sit on the bench as managers.
That's actually fair enough I'd say.

He should try Martial as striker and Sanchez on left. Thats probably the only one we have never tried .

Because he is not a CF made to play upfront by himself. He is a Striker than needs a partner and a creator behind him. If he fails in that then he is not a striker. Playing as a striker for Jose is playing in a team that is built to get the best out of a target man - not a CF like Martial and Rashford; thats why both were instantly dropped from strikers and made to wingers as soon as josse signed the contract and hired Ibrahimovic instead.

Likewise - Martial nor Rashford are going to be showing strikers form in a Jose team; he just does not adapt his tactics to get the best of those strikers as seen yesterday. Using the same players in the same positions that he uses to get the best out of a target man in Lukaku. Play Rashford next to Martial, in front of a number 10 like Mata or even Sanchez then lets see how they do.

Rashford was attempting to do all the work purely by himself yesterday; not purely because he is selfish but because he had to in a team built for target men recieving the ball from crosses and lofts rather than a team that attempts to penetrate defences.

Fellaini behind messi? not the best move. Fellaini behind Lukaku? more symmetrical and underlies the thesis behind our tactics.

Even if the tactics are tailor made for him I still don’t see Rashford as a 25/30 goals a season striker in my view he is not a poacher or a natural finisher .Since RVP we have not had a player who can guarantee this level of goal return ( Lukaku flattered to deceive and has been found out ).A younger Zlatan would still be doing it but I just don’t see Rashford achieving it no matter who the manager is and lack of goals has been our biggest problem in recent years

Please no:nono:, although I do think he was a mod account.
That would be a welcome explanation
Ah remember the glory days of Santiago Mentalbiscuits. He was a proper nutter but highly amusing.
Damn right. Must have been LvG’s caf accoint. Credited both Spain and Germany’s World Cup wins to LvG

Beware if the world cups coming home, no doubt that would be due to LvG as well
Damn straight.
Does my head in on here, the amount of flak SAF gets from some of the members on here. United supporters no less. For sure he’s not perfect, but some criticism towards him are way OTT.

Rashford missing those chances has got nothing to do with where he plays. These are chances that he should have at least hit the target. If he is a CF playing on the wing then if he gets the chance to hit the target he has to hit no matter where he is playing. He simply is not good enough to lead the line in a top team.

Simplest trick in the book from him and you've bought it hook line and sinker. Downplay everything and then nothing is ever worse than you 'predicted', if things go well the muppets who buy his story then think he's amazing. Mou is a master manipulator and this year he's squirming around trying to survive despite this being his third season and having had copious time, money and support to improve our team and style of football.

I think the fans protesting after the game isn't a bad idea. I've always been against booing your team

Two things as add is that A) These days PL challengers are well equipped to do well in the CL. Liverpool look a decent get to make quarters or semis these days barring a difficult group. B) It's okay to not be CL challengers for the next 2 years or so as long as challenge for the PL
Great jinx it looks like Liverpool won't quality for the CL they have to win their last game and PSG has to lose. Even if PSG draw and liverpool win PSG Will go through unless liverpool wins by a cricket score.

On point A yes english teams are closer but the special players who win you CL are not currently in england so its very hard for an english team to win. And on point B i agree as long as we are challenging for the title i have no issues slowly building a team good enough to win the CL if they takes a few years so be it.

It would be brilliant if they don't. But they did challenge for it last year anyway.

Regardless i really don't care about the CL right now. We have to first and foremost become a force in English football again.

Those players you name worked with him years ago when he was still a top manager, aside from Hazard who is probably just hedging his bets in case they end up at Real Madrid together. Mourinho’s utterances are all about self-preservation - he couldn’t care less about United.
Correct, Mourinho is as self serving as they come. Yes, you want your managers to crave personal success, because the organization succeeds with him - but with Mourinho, he’d see the club crash and burn to the ground, if it served him well.

If you do a deal with the devil, you at least expect results. This is like we did a deal with Little Nicky.

All players miss chances, why the Rashford hate? Is there some metric where his shot to goal ratio is a lot lower than other forwards?

It is not hate. When Lukaku misses so many chances he is rightly criticised. The same with Martial and so it will be with Rashford. If it is one chance then anyone can miss. Even two but Rashford is now missing so many chances. He is not even hitting the target.

We're literally going through the Jose cycle that's been recurring throughout most of his career.

1st season- We win a couple of trophies. Get some momentum going into the new season.
2nd season- We peak. Except we can't compete against Pep and City and come 2nd and lose in the FA cup final
3rd season- Players, fans and everyone in between get tired of him and he ends up leaving.

The question for some is why the Rashford love ?

If he played in your Saturday or Sunday team, serious questions would be asked if it continued. It doesn't seem to be confidence as he is making space and just missing the barn door. Maybe he needs to look at Ronaldo and practice until his feet hurt.

Shouldn't be a starter or first choice off the bench until he can prove the strikers "it" has returned. Don't see its a Jose thing, just a time when young players are off the pace, he needs to work hard and make sure his career doesn't stall. We can't just excuse poor form because he is an academy product, and to be honest I don't believe the hype that surrounds Lingard, he's just a player who has occasional, highlights, not a consistent and solid EPL starter.

What a fair weather fan eh?
If you are referring to Sir Bobby as a fair weather fan I suggest you pull your head out of your ass. This man has done more for this club than anyone. He probably also has access to more information and more of the s*it going on behind closed doors. What I like and respect about him the most is that straight away from the beginning he stated he didnt want Mourinho anywhere near our club, and he has never backed down from that. Not like some of the people on here who wanted Mourinho and success over everything else, including confrontation and playing style. If you play with the devil your fingers will get burned.

Right now, if you were a player with your best years ahead of you and contemplating a move to another club, what would be your thoughts when Manchester United was suggested as a possible destination? I think you'd see a lot more negatives than positives, and most likely ask your agent to look elsewhere. Players used to dream about the opportunity of joining a club like ours, so how has this state of affairs come about?

Am I wrong if I suggest our club is viewed from the outside as: -

- being in decline.
- having a dispirited group of players.
- playing in a way that excites neither the players nor the fans.
- having an under pressure manager who responds by taking it out on his players.
- being more likely right now to damage a career than to enhance it.

If this is indeed the perception from outside, then what kind of players would we be able to attract? Probably a combination of thirty-somethings looking for that last big payday, or players who realise they're not that good and can't believe their luck when someone wants to pay them so much.

We can argue about where the fault for this lies, and I don't think it's just Mourinho, but the truth remains that things will not change for the better while the current manager is in place. I think if I turned on the TV, and saw that Mourinho had been fired and replaced with X on a caretaker basis until the end of the season, I'd be delighted irrespective of who X was (perhaps not Moyes or Van Gaal - that would just make us look confused).

We don't know why Sir Bobby is not attending games at the moment. Hopefully it is because of what's going on at the club and not something more serious. He wasn't there when Fergie made his return to OT was he?

The issue isn't the reaction, all manager's go nuts because it's a high pressure job and they all want to win.

Difference is Fergie is yelling at Ronaldo, there's nothing snide or hidden about his reaction. He's not playing to the crowd or cameras, he's focused on Ronaldo.

Mourinho is making a point to the world that he's unhappy and it's not his fault that he's being let down by all these players. It's an insecure reaction and points to the fact we all know already, that he cares about self preservation more than the team. Rashford knows he should have scored, yell at him all you need to but don't go making pantomime faces to the crowd and the bench to highlight something that's blindingly obvious.
Agreed. You also have to think about the individual. Ronaldo feeds off criticism and people telling him to do better better. His drive to improve comes largely from the people who put him down and tell him he's not as good as Messi. SAF knew that and knew how to get a positive reaction from him in that moment.

Mourinho isn't doing that with Rashford. He's all about protecting his own image.

Spot on! Ffs there are some people who turn a blind eye to anything he does. Justifying that reaction, which is done consciously for all the world to see, is a fecking disgrace.

Are we still arguing about whether Mourinho should go?

We're eighth in the league FFS. Having spent as much as anyone bar City and paying the second-highest wage bill (assuming City are falsifying their published figures).

Our only method of scoring a goal is hoofing the ball toward a pair of Belgian giants, even though we have Pogba, Martial, Sanchez and Rashford in the squad.

At any other big club Mourinho would have been gone months ago.

I think the poll would be even more telling against Mourinho if there were top managers available with less risk attached.

Woody is probably thinking the same. He probably would have sacked Jose if someone like say, Ancelotti were free in an international break. But there's sort of no one available that fits his criteria.

Also, this thread (and poll) has been up for a while so people might not be arsed/remember to change their vote.

Yeah, that too. I'm probably going to change my vote if we aren't in touching distance, or inside the top 4 by the end of the year.
