So you agree. Cool.
I never said I didn't, it was a typical jump on the City fans post in here again. Now seeing as I answered, you can answer mine. What do you think Pep should say about the Rainbow Laces campaign? Or should he think "Oh this campaign has inspired me to quite my job." Truth is Pep gives no fecks about Abu Dhabi nor its people. He cares about Catalonia. The same way either of us would care about these things in our own country but ignore what happens in another.

And if that BSM saudi guy buys us as has been rumoured, I absolutely will walk away. Can not and will not support that. Ever.
Everyday I pray that deal goes through because we both know that when the time comes you will not. If everyone whose threatened that does the Caf will be empty.

Should a football club and the manager really do this? don't They have better things to do? can't see anything from this other than trying to get attention. But people know who owns them, They're basically acting demickey. Of course They're hypocrites.

This is reaching beyond levels I've seen lately. You realize every club has owners who probably believe in something the general majority don't right?
Yes but They don't rub it into people's faces or did something that's against their beliefs for attention. That's the difference.

Maybe others won’t, but I will. Doesn’t mean I’ll leave the cafe, but my days of following and supporting the club will be over.

As for what pep should say, I did answer that in my post. I think if he’s going to take the money, then he should own it. Say what we all know to be true, he doesn’t care. If he did, he wouldn’t work there to be part of the pr campaign to change the view of that place. And if united do get taken over by BSM that’s all united will be at that point. Another piece of nonsense to distract from the fact that that guy isn’t the great Saudi hope he presents himself as.

Sorry you feel like a victim, wasn’t my intention for you to feel attacked.

Jeez, there's a gay fella on Facebook commenting their rainbow badge saying "This is why I love City". :wenger:

The leaders of the UAE are very well aware of how they are percieved abroad. They can't honestly believe that this shitty propaganda works in educated countries?
It does though...

The latest in a long line of bitter and odd threads on here recently.

Have a look at the replies to City changing their profile photo on Facebook to one with a rainbow background. They belong in the dark ages just like this thread.
The irony.

Did they have to torture him first tho?

In Peps next press conference, at least one question SHOULD be about this hypocrisy.
Will that question be asked?
No. Because they pay the media to be nice about the club and Pep.
Any dissenters will be banned immediately from City.
It is PR, pure and simple. Whitewashing the truth.
I can’t believe they have supporters in the LGBT community. Try going over there for a holiday...
Out of all the employees in the club, there MUST be a percentage that disagree with their owners. Why are they just taking the money?

This is quite an interesting discussion. For some it would be legitimate and then there'd be a few on either side of the fence who'd either let bias/envy/jealousy cloud their opinions.

Not sure where I fit in yet, other than having the opinion that most of us in life, are at times, hypocrites. Life to me has never been as easy as "black or white" and what I've found in life is that there are genuine people out there who are able to separate their professional life, from their personal life.

I'm not saying Pep is one of those people, because frankly, I don't know him and from the snippets of the media outlets/his opinons and considering who employs him, I'd possibly think he is a hypocrite, indeed.

But say he earns 15mil+ from his employers, but he uses, let's say even 10% of the money to charity, or help fund the causes he stands for....does it make his decision a lot more palatable? From my side though, I'd rather try and live without judging people I don't really know enough about.

The club are a disgrace. That rainbow behind their badge should be taken off, nor should their captain wear the rainbow armband.

Bloody money, dirty oil money, corruption and murdring gays are what have built Man City. That’s why they take their PR and ‘good guy’ image so seriously. They’re a disgrace and they’re getting away with it.

This is some bloody nonsense and needs to stop or reined in. Read up on your cell phone parts where they come from, your super cool clothes or sneakers and also check out where your gas comes from when you hop into your car. Or maybe boycott watching the next Manchester derby..it involves city after all.

It's fine to discuss the hypocrisy or the virtues/vices of anything but it riles me up when people pass on judgments with such certitude to such unrelated things.

I hate threads like this. If Pep and City had shut up and chosen to say nothing about the 'Rainbow laces' campaign these self same critical would still be declaring them unspeakable humans. not highlighting them as examples of how not to be hypocrites
Well, if you are in a position where you are either an «unspeaksble human» or a hypocrite, you need to consider how you got there.

There is nothing wrong by pointing out that Pep represents a club with owners that have an awful view relating to the subject. In fact, more people should do it to raise awareness.

Rather it simply shows the allegedly 'outraged' peeps as the true hypocrites. Its not a problem for the person being targeted by such hypocrites.

Pep and City should be applauded for bringing their global clout to the cause. Not treated like they are setting it back. If anything its the likes of UAE who actively quash such things in their borders who are losing out. Having their resources used to campaign against their societal norms.

There is nothing wrong about it. Just as long as you don't do it in a down right hypocritical and high and mighty fashion. In my book. Before one goes for a Pep or a City. Why not start with the British government that allows private entities in its borders to do business with the likes of UAE? Or is that suddenly 'too much'

You don’t know me personally. You don’t know what I do and support in my life.
These people are IN the public spotlight and everyone knows the ins and outs of their lives.
Yet, City owners are pretending that they support LGBT rights, while carrying out brutal punishments to the LGBT community at home.
I hate that the government allows business with them. But I don’t vote for the Conservatives.

It's fairly simple, the owners of City are pretending to support people identifying as LGBT for the sake of good PR, whilst literally being responsible for people being sentenced to death for the same thing in another part of the world(which they control). How anyone doesn't think that is immensely fecked up is beyond me. Things like this should be mentioned at any given opportunity.

I dont agree that they should be applauded for saying one thing, and doing something else. Pep has chosen to represent UAE. Hence, he dont care. He says he do, but he obviously dont care enough to make a stance that actually matter.

And of course British government should put tougher sanctions on UAE. Everyone should. But it needs to start somewhere. Government will not put sanctions until the people actually undertands and cares. Raising awareness is therefore a good start. UAE spend billions on PR. City, and Pep, is a big part of it.

Devils advocate here, but Pep doesn't own City. He's there to win football matches for them. I doubt he holds any of the same beliefs as the barbarians that own them. Seems like a decent bloke tbf.

You're banging your head against a brick wall with this point. Some people will not acknowledge the distinction. Interestingly, it comes here in a post saying we should keep politics out of football (usually said by those who on some level sympathise with the politics under question). Yet the poster in effect politicises everything by implying that one's country of origin taints you due to the actions of its government.
You're no doubt right mate, but it's the hope that at some point someone might realize its a stupid point to make.

But looking at the rest of the thread it's only a faint hope. Someone makes a thread to point out Peps hypocrisy and in the process shine a light on the fact that Citys owners treat human beings abhorrently in their country. And just like the Saudi thread the strawman brigade rush in to defend them spouting the usual twaddle about smartphones, clothes and petrol.

except they are related. How can there still be people that don’t know that the rulers of the uae are who own city? This isn’t “I like my phone, even though I know Foxconn workers are treated like shit”. This is ‘we love gay people’ while continuing to persecute them, censor them, fine them, jail them, kill them. If there was enough blacklash against the city group, you might actually get a positive response to get them to change the laws in the uae.

I guess it will show that people will trade with the devil if they got good deals and they do not care too much about morals. Most western countries sell weapons and have trade deals with these countries even more directly allowing these countries to perform a lot of the horrors. Pep simple have a working relationship just like that and at least he doesn't sell weapons or anything directly hurting the people.

If you get money from a company having big trade deals with these countries are you in a much better spot? If we ignore everything related to these countries then we need to ignore pretty much everything since the economy is very complex and oil from middle east plays a mayor role still.

It is probably better that Pep speaks out about this rather than not. Although at the core he certainly cares more about money and sucess over peoples right no doubt. The same as more than half the world.

It is very good that people point these things out and start talking more about these regimes though. Love these threads! If you can put pressure on your goverments to stop selling weapons to these countries!

If you find anyone that voted for the tories in here(and you will) you can point that finger of yours at them. For the rest of us, we don’t condone or support the actions of our corrupt government. And if we had a voice to stand against it, we would use it. What we wouldn’t do is pretend everything is ok, and out government isn’t a huge part of the problem that the world currently faces.

Not like st pep.

There's a vast difference between the owners of most football clubs and the owners of City, in that City's owners are the rulers of a country that executes LGBT people.

I hate City, Pep and the UAE's regime, but as said. There was nothing else he could have said when asked.

It was another case when he wore the yellow ribbon for Catalunya, was asked about democracy in UAE and dodged the question.

To me the spirit of your post testifies against you. Mixing politics with sport and launching a needless personal Attack on Pep

You don’t know me personally. You don’t know what I do and support in my life.
I don't have you. If City and Pep had said nothing you'd probably be amongst the first decrying that stance and abusing them to the highest heavens for it. Which is the problem I have with the spirit of your post, for it smacks of dishonest scales. City and Pep are not the people to go after if you want to decry the UAE and its internal politics against the LGBT community.

Its up there with sayimg United are hypocrites for having a women's team when there owners hail from a land the readily voted a misogynist into power.

These people are IN the public spotlight and everyone knows the ins and outs of their lives.
And that gives people the right to sit in judgement over them? Appointed by WHAT authority?

Yet, City owners are pretending that they support LGBT rights, while carrying out brutal punishments to the LGBT community at home.

Even Labor has done business with such regimes. But that is besides the point IMO. If people in your nation have issues with people doing business with entities from or with nations like the UAE. Start with your politicians that let it happen.

Yes. Its UAE losing out here. Their OWN money is being used to promote what is against their beliefs. I fail to see how that is odd. If UAE for example decided to be offended by what City's doing, and chose to bail, City would be in deep shit. UAE would lose nada. To pretend City or Pep are taking no risk to themselves and just doing PR is grossly disingenuous.

Or are you somehow under the impression that city is just a business and not owned and operated by the uae rulers?
No.

If you find anyone that voted for the tories in here(and you will) you can point that finger of yours at them.
Why? Because Labor governments and Lib Dem governments NEVER allowed businesses in Britain to do business with nations like UAE?

Unless you want me to believe you have never voted any existing British government into office in your life time? If so. I applaud you

You fail to see whats odd about saying one thing and doing another? Really? And if you know that the city is owned and operated by the rulers of UAE why are still talking about them as though they are separate things? City is an extension of the UAE, they dont do anything with the UAE approval. And no, I have never voted a single UK government into power. EVER.

I dislike how city do business and the regeime they uphold but I don’t see a problem with what Pep has said. The thing that should be raised more is that the club has taken this on when their owners are clearly against it. I’d focus your disgust more at City and a club and their disgusting owners rather than Pep.... who I don’t like much either to be honest. I mean if every single person stuck to their principles there would be a lot of unemployed people in the world.

The lot of people you are talking about earn a very small fraction of what Pep's earning and they have to support their families too. Pep won't go broke if he chose not to work under the city regime. And a lot of other big clubs would instantly give him a new job. So yeah he won't remain unemployed.

Is it also hypocisy that we've set up a woman's team, considering our manager is such a women hating bully prick?
Wow, what a reach.
Impressive. I've never seen an agenda being shoe horned into a discussion like this.

Slightly off topic, but were we the only PL club not to rainbow up the club crest on social media? Seems like every one else did.

A minor thing in the grand scheme of it all, but it makes us look like an odd one out when you see the Premier League account retweeting club team sheets.

I’ve never heard so much crap in all my life. The UAE mixed politics and sport, simply by buying City to promote their regime! You seriously think that they have spent 2 billion at least, because they love football and City? They saw them when Shaun Goater and Nicky Summerbee were playing, and thought ‘I’ll have me some of that!’?
No, it’s purely a vehicle to make them seem more palatable as a nation.

Why would they be offended by something that is part of a strategy they themselves have put in place?

City supporting things like this is just part of the PR offensive that Manchester City has been a vehicle for these last 10 years.

Many pilots, and other people earn a substantial amount. Why are the City players not called hypocrites? I get they are owned by disgusting people but a lot of big companies are, it’s the way of the world sadly and us the public are too busy watching TV to care.
