Streaming is a huge thing now, and that moment was a defining point.

I'm really not against that side of gaming becoming so popular these days, in fact it's a good thing for gaming. Ninja and his ilk are proper gamers and they are having more and more influence in what companies do, it's leading to things like Epic rivaling Steam and pushing Sony to relax their stupid cross platform rules to boot. They are also highlighting cheating, bad business practices and most importantly they are all doing charity streams to help genuine causes along the way.

It's no longer about watching people play games, it's a new form of entertainment and one that's free and so far fair.
Well, it's rivalling Steam by pushing developers into exclusivity while at the same time presenting a barebones product toward the users (no cloud saves, seriously?)

Did steam have that in the first week?

I know, I was there. Steam revitalised PC gaming which is why I still stick with them through all the shit they've done, but if you think for one second an actual rival that's truly held accountable (thanks in some ways to streamers) isn't a good thing, then you are plain wrong. IF you think that of course...

Is that really an argument? Steam is 15 years old at this point, & I'm not interested in what Epic can do compared to Valve of 2003 - I'm interested in what they can do compared to Valve right now.

Saddest thing for me is that Origin constantly gets overlooked. It lacks major Steam-like sales, sure, but their client is great, Access/Premier are awesome value for money, and they actually have customer support.

As Tommy said, that's not really an argument. Epic is a huge company that made an obscene amount of money with Fortnite and with the Unreal Engine - they had every opportunity to launch a product with ALL the features that you can reasonably expect in 2018.

I think an actual rival is good but an actual rival that pushes exclusivity is not a good thing. This is my big problem with Origin, too. PC gaming should not be about platform exclusivity, even if that platform is just a launcher.

Not so much an argument, but it's a new service that could rival them. That's only a good thing for us consumers, I fail to see the issue. With Origin, there's one obvious reason people don't like using it...

No, but it is a new service and they clearly said it was rough and ready.

But what people fail to notice is that even though it's another company doing what companies typically do, with the whole Fortnite/Streamer thing blowing up they hopefully will find it harder to pull the same shit. Not that I think they won't try or succeed of course, I just think it all being so much more open these days than the likes of Steam and Origin ever were should help us watch the progress.

Platform exclusivity isn't an issue at all when all the clients are free for anyone to download, in my opinion.

I mean, sure, it'd be great (in some ways) to have everything in one place, but is that bit of user convenience enough to justify EA, ActiBlizz & Ubisoft giving up 30% of their revenue?

Of course, these savings would be passed onto the consumer in an ideal world, but hey

I don't think it'll do much, but I'm with you that any potential rival is a good thing for consumers.

Origin is good. I don't get the hate, even if it is EA. uPlay was/is trash that leaked info like a colander, but Origin has been solid for years.

Remember when they used to tell us that games cost so much because of manufacturing and buying shelf space and digital games would be cheaper? Now they say it's because of servers and publishing.

Nothing ever changes. Even Epic and Fortnite, it's a free game and no pay to win so that's awesome. Plus it's fun. However, how much does a single skin cost again? Now the latest set (skin, backpack, pickaxe) is about 25 fecking quid! I'm so glad my boy (10y.o and a 17kill solo win to his name) has tired of it and moved on to CS:GO.

Probably not, but as I said, it is way more public than any of the others. They are using the streamers with the whole fortnite thing of course, and they have the money to do better, but with that comes even more exposure than even EA have had. If they feck people off, it's going to go south so much faster than ever. Hopefully, anyway.

Then you do get it. Origin is stable and solid and I have nothing against people using it, nor have I ever told people not to. EA are up there as the worst though, so thankfully people haven't forgiven them so easily.

From the producer of Fast and Furious what’s not to love?

Blizzard, oh how far have ye fallen...

Blizzard employees at Blizzcon: Yeah, Heroes of the Storm will still have all its major eSports events in 2019! We can't wait!
Blizzard one week ago: BUY NOW! MAJOR SALE ON ALL HOTS XP STIMPACKS! (People spent mad cash).
Blizzard today: https://news.blizzard.com/en-us/blizzard/22833558/heroes-of-the-storm-news

So basically, feck anyone making a living playing HotS. Feck anyone who bought anything from the store just a week prior. Don't you think you kinda owe it to fans & players of the game not to feck them over in such dramatic fashion, no? Smaller companies I can understand, but this is one of (if not the) big name in PC gaming...

Oh wait, never mind...

According to Kotaku they been told to cut costs and make more games.
I was talking about it with a friend yesterday, about where all these now homeless folks will be going (assuming that Blizzard aren't cutting employees).

WoW team is rumoured to be shrinking.
SC2 team is barely running anything besides eSports right now.
HotS team is being split up.
HS team is tiny (yet effective).
OW team is huge but isn't really doing what it should be in the eSports world.
Diablo 4 is all but announced to be coming.
The classic games team finished work on SC & went over to WC3R.

So at the very least we're likely losing employees from the WoW, HotS, and likely SC2 team...

What's their likely destination?

No joke, I reckon it's a mobile game or two. Clash of Clans but with SC units... Portable WoW minigames (for money, of course). Shite like that.

I understand the need to tone down HotS support, but the way they did it was beyond terrible.

I give Overwatch a year before it hits problems. They already said a few months ago that they no new events are planned and most focus has shifted towards balance changes and e-sports.

The same boring seasonal events happen every two months with 4-5 new skins and 1 new character every 4-5 months. I played shitloads of it for 18 months and tried it again recently when Ashe was released. It's just bleh now, in my opinion. And if you're focusing on e-sports, you'll probably lose lots of casual players and retain the super hardcore crowd.

Blizzard have been going down hill for some time now, another shite company to avoid for me.

Epic games platform, seems seriously overhyped, some questionable decisions already, third party exclusives + no user reviews is horseshite.

Question: What Android devices are you guys using for the Steam Link App? I'm looking at the 10" Huawei tablets right now as they seem to pack a punch for the money, and 9-10 inches seems like the perfect size for the games I'd be playing.

Edit: Never mind, ended up with a Huawei MediaPad T5. 10.1", FHD IPS display, 3.5mm out. £140.

I was reminiscing about mid-90's Command & Conquer and saw that there are some fairly recent versions of the game. Are they worth having?

Not really. Some might say generals, but it's a skip from me. Red Alert 3 ain't bad, but Red Alert 2 & YR remains the best C&C game with Tiberian Sun coming just behind.

It's also part of Origin Access if I remember right.
It is, have to say it's not half bad 16.99 for a year for the basic or 3.99 per month and has plenty of games.

Also , I'm looking for a second monitor, Currently have a 60hz 1980/1080 monitor.
Not really sure, it'll be used with the Xbox X & my PC. 4k for the x maybe but not sure my PC will handle that nowadays.
Possibly 144hz
May just go for a budget one.

144hz is awesome, it really is. But bear in mind that not all games let you push that even if your PC can, but in twitch shooters the difference is remarkable. I'd put it way above resolution in terms of importance.

Blasphemy! I adore Generals & Zero Hour.

How can anybody not find popping up in the enemy base with a bunch of bomb trucks entertaining as hell.
