I don't rate Lingard alot but he's got one of the nicest characters in football. A few years back he came to Malta with the academy to play against Hibs. Everyone was around what were thought to be the future stars of United (Pogba, Petrucci etc) but soon enough we all fell in love with this little guy, whose down to earth attitude and lovely character stole our heart. During the game some fans started chanting his name. He made sure he'll celebrate any goals he scored in front of them and to wave to us at every occasion. I was lucky to meet many United players in my time from Charlton to Best right to Robson, Beckham, Scholes, Pogba, Yorke, Berba, the Neville brothers and Jesse. I don't see myself particularly biased towards United however I think we've got, by far, the most down to earth players in the world.

Nice little read. Lots of details about Jesse's way into the United-squad.

Always like it more, when players talk about the darker times of football too, and it doesn't go into auto-pilot. Like Roy Keane on his injury in his autobiography.

If you ever wonder why Fergie was just the best ever, you only have to listen to how players that know him talk.

People think he ruled with an iron fist, but it's clearly the opposite for 90% of the time. He genuinely loved and cared for his lads, and that's why they gave everything for him.

That's great stuff. If you can't appreciate that and how rare it is to have guys like that still coming through, you're dead inside. Feck 'em all, Jesse.

Great read. Can't imagine how buzzing Jesse must be feeling, him being a childhood United fan and all.

Don’t know how anyone can hate him and be a United fan. Great read and a good guy to boot.

Hopefully he can help the team to win EPL in his United career for his family, people who always believe and support him, himself & especially for United fans.
Great read!

What wouldn't you do for someone who fosters and helps you achieve your dream? The man is unique.

What a great read. The highs, the lows, everything is in there, told in a very warm style, which I'm sure typifies the lad. The Gramming and constant talk of banter isn't really my cup of tea but I don't care, I have plenty of time for Jesse and as he says he isn't changing any time soon.

Lovely story, but he talks like he’s one of the inbetweeners!

He’s 26.

Am I being really fecking stupid?

That’s a parody, right? This thread reads like r/nosleep
All of the stories from this series read conversationally. I’m pretty sure someone just wrote down exactly what he said. You’ve heard him in interviews and on Instagram. This is how he talks and there isn’t really a problem with that.

The video at the bottom actually shows some of the footage on which this is based (Jesse talks about the incident at Stoke when his grandad lost his rag). On a side note, his grandad is about the hardest looking pensioner I’ve ever seen. Feel sorry for the Stoke parents!

Great read, top bloke, and I'm glad how things are going for him at the moment. Gets a lot of stick on here, but he's a key player for us these days and it's deserved.

Great read, thanks. Love the lad. This;

I remember when I was like nine years old, I went into Tony Whelan’s office and I said, “Um, sir, can I start doing some weights? My grandad wants to know.”

And Tony was like, “No, son. You can’t.”

I said, “Oh, how come?”

He said, “Because you’re nine.”

Can we start calling Rashford 'Beans' now?

Or is that already a thing? (First I've heard)

"It’s funny, certain people will criticize me now because I’m always smiling out there on the pitch. But I’ll never stop being myself. I’ll never stop enjoying my football. I’ll never take the smile off my face when I step over the line, because I know what it means to wear this shirt. I know how lucky I am to do what I do for a living, and to represent this badge, and I’m never gonna stop enjoying it for a minute."

Probably aiming at some miserable eejits on this Site.

Seriously, I hope he stays till he retires, he's a great player to have around the club. A great back up too. You can dismiss him all you want, but he's proved himself to be a player any club would by happy to have.

tl;dr: Granddad trained him as a kid. It was very hard for a scrawny boy to make it but Sir Alex believed in him. So now after all the hard work he's put in, he won't stop smiling because he loves being a United player and going to enjoy every bit of it.

That's brilliant. Stories like his, of making it through the United Academy, is the real reason why I fell in love with United in the first place.

That's our identity, pictures of kids in oversized kits who eventually make it to play for the club at the highest level. It might have become unfashionable in recent times in the Caf, but I'll always have time for the likes of Lingard, Cleverley, Welbeck etc.
