Jesse Lingard Players' Tribune piece

I don't rate Lingard alot but he's got one of the nicest characters in football. A few years back he came to Malta with the academy to play against Hibs. Everyone was around what were thought to be the future stars of United (Pogba, Petrucci etc) but soon enough we all fell in love with this little guy, whose down to earth attitude and lovely character stole our heart. During the game some fans started chanting his name. He made sure he'll celebrate any goals he scored in front of them and to wave to us at every occasion. I was lucky to meet many United players in my time from Charlton to Best right to Robson, Beckham, Scholes, Pogba, Yorke, Berba, the Neville brothers and Jesse. I don't see myself particularly biased towards United however I think we've got, by far, the most down to earth players in the world.

What a great read. The highs, the lows, everything is in there, told in a very warm style, which I'm sure typifies the lad. The Gramming and constant talk of banter isn't really my cup of tea but I don't care, I have plenty of time for Jesse and as he says he isn't changing any time soon.
All of the stories from this series read conversationally. I’m pretty sure someone just wrote down exactly what he said. You’ve heard him in interviews and on Instagram. This is how he talks and there isn’t really a problem with that.

Think you’re overlooking generational changes. 26 year olds don’t stay the same through history.
The video at the bottom actually shows some of the footage on which this is based (Jesse talks about the incident at Stoke when his grandad lost his rag). On a side note, his grandad is about the hardest looking pensioner I’ve ever seen. Feel sorry for the Stoke parents!

Seriously, I hope he stays till he retires, he's a great player to have around the club. A great back up too. You can dismiss him all you want, but he's proved himself to be a player any club would by happy to have.

tl;dr: Granddad trained him as a kid. It was very hard for a scrawny boy to make it but Sir Alex believed in him. So now after all the hard work he's put in, he won't stop smiling because he loves being a United player and going to enjoy every bit of it.
That's brilliant. Stories like his, of making it through the United Academy, is the real reason why I fell in love with United in the first place.
