What gives me so much hope is he's still a baby in terms of players at his position reaching their prime. Core strength and contact absorption are the main thing he needs to work on but that will come, and he will only get better with an Alderweireld or Koulibaly (only using them as examples as we've been linked) next to him. Right up there in the WAG department too.

But he's kinda done it twice. He was bad at the start of last season, like really bad, then he got a bit better and didnt look a liability by the end of the season.

Then he had another bad start and then improved again and playing the best he has so far.
I think he looks very settled now. You can see him communicating and taking leadership. I think he has a long way to go but boy I've high hopes for him. I wasnt actually serious about the Baresi comment but he looks very good and like a complete steal for 30 million in this day and age. I mean, of course I can't help but go off into the clouds about how good he can become but that is what football is all about imo. Anyway, he has definitely come through as a signing and we will be seeing him at United for many years!! Well I hope so anyway!

Also.. I'm pissed!! I got absolutely shit faced after this result due to being so happy about United again. I love Incy.

Wow, with Lindelof now looking like a solid defender and even Bailly back in the mix, things are starting to look a bit better. I'm itching to see Lindelof-Smalling partnership now. Lindelof has really impressed after Ole came in, he keeps getting better each game which is what you want to see with young players getting a chance. Getting our best defender back in with Lindelof on his current form could potentially be very good for us come PSG.

Bailly also impressed me against Arsenal but one game at a time for him, I feel.

He’s become one of my favourite United players.. still scratching my head as to how rapid the transformation has been but he’s a proper player. Watching him live you realise how talented he is. Has a natural feel for the ball and what to do with it.

True. He's definitely improved in the air though im not entirely sure how much until we face a team that are good in the air. But he's also become the one doing the majority of the defensive actions in several of the Jones matches and now with Bailly. Earlier in the season it was Smalling doing most of it and Lindelof covering the rest, now he's taking charge like you said. I only hope he continues and if he gets even better he'll have a good career here longterm
He's never likely to become an aerial titan but I think he's trying to make up for it not being his natural game by improving the timing of his jumps and his positioning, and he's definitely ogranizing the back 4 now, all good signs in his continuing progression, hopefully just the start.

The guy went from being a timid defender to dominant now. Everytime he was marking someone, I had complete faith that he would handle it and he did.

As a couple of posters mentioned, he's becoming dominant in the air too. Long may this continue.

Yeah, he was passive defender but this season, especially since Ole took over he is aggressive and also winning few physical duels. Looks very good defender and if he continues to improve then it will be money very well spent.

This was the acid test for him as Arsenal have quick, pressing forwards in Auba and Lacazette but more importantly, he was switching sides to his far less favoured left centre back position (because Bailly definitely can’t play there). He was brilliant. Not quite as dominant as when he’s on his favoured side (can’t blame him for that) but he still showed all the quality we have seen in the last 9 or so games.
This bodes well because to me, Smalling and Bailly, the only two defenders I would even bother to pair him with while we wait for a summer upgrade, Cannot play on the left. They are limited players who only feel comfortable in their natural position.

Rock solid performance tonight. You can tell he's getting more confident and has even gotten better in the air.

Wanna see him paired with Bailly more.

Him and Bailly were excellent last night. Apart from the goal Arsenal didn't really threaten us and they were the biggest reason for that.

Go back to watch highlights with Viggo in Swedens WCQ game against France in June 2017 and you will see the embryo of the player you see now. The talent and the skills was there all the time. It’s all about confidence and trust.

Rondón is supposed to be decent in the air, but Lindelof had a good game against him.

He has better protection because we actually put pressure on the ball.

Dig up stupid!
I can barely believe the transformation tbh

A couple of months ago this guy looked genuinely scared of the football, he avoided it as much as he could and if by some chance it came his way he'd struggle to sort his feet out before playing a backwards pass that was more often than not off target!

Now though he's a monster in the air, dominating bigger and stronger opponents, he's vocal all game organising those around him and we're also seeing his ability on the ball when he raids up field or picks a long pass.

I don't know what witchcraft ole's brought or perhaps what spell of mous we've broken but Victor in particular looks a proper player now, with the right partner he could be great

So Jose did have an eye for a defender...was just what he did to them afterwards which made them look shite. Rooting for Bailly to switch on beast mode now.

Oh stop giving me wet dreams. Bailly on super Saiyan mode is just too much for me.

I believe he's the worst defender i've ever seen play for United in a Premier League match. His positioning is terrible, he's fairly slow, not intelligent, and clearly isn't very good at passing. If he ever plays for United again I can only imagine it's because there's not a single other option or we just don't give a fucc.
Big fan of this comment.

It's not that surprising he's improved as the season has gone on. I think when Jose stopped switching and Lindelof got games consistently he started to show his natural game. Now Ole let's him carry the ball a bit more so we're seeing that side too.

At this rate our top quality CB will be to replace Smalling instead.

Keeps growing and growing in stature. Really pleased for him as well after a rough start.

Hope he can keep on improving. One thing that would be nice to add to his game, chipping in with the odd goal for us the way Vidic did.

This is why I always give a player a season to adapt to a new language, team, league and system before I make a judgement on their ability.
Lindelof was getting pelters in his first few games off fans and has come through showing a strong mental attitude after a pretty torrid start to his United career under mourhinio.
Still not written Fred off yet:nervous:

This guy is no better than Darmian tbh.
He is just a Lindelöf fanboy, probably from Sweden. Lindelöf isnt good enough defensively to be at United, 'modern' or not. He is soft and shit at defending
Big, big flop.

He will be sold to a midtable club next season.
Flop flop flop flop flop flop. feck off!
The only good thing about Lindelof are his champions that pop up in this thread. Not only do they seek to defend his honour but they try to promote him as a top player. They must be relatives, his girlfriend or part of his PR team.

Funny to claim he’s too good for the Premier League style when he’s hailed for his international appearances in which Sweden play Roy Hodgeson’s 1980s British style football. Stylistically almost as regressive as it gets for the football snobs.
Same with Evra.

Both their quality was evident. Lindelof on the other hand is just bad at being a CB.
So we’re all on the same page now in agreement that he’s a bit shit?
Lindelof is shit. Not surprised some posters are happy with him though. Nothing player.
Blind is on another planet to Lindelof. He mucked in, genuinely defended well and was actually good with the ball. It was one thing that Van Gaal got right.

This bloke is shocking at defending and it was visible from his very first pre-season. You know a proper defender when you see one (or at least you should). Lindelof needs binned while we can still make some money back.

Car crash signing.

To be fair, he did look terrible last season. I never expected him to improve this much. Now we just need someone to partner him and we are set!

True. Plenty of players need time to adapt. Even Modric struggled at Madrid and was called the worst signing of the season. Look at how that turned out. With Ole in charge, we'll soon find out if Fred can step up or not by next season.

Meh, you are a massive Lindelöf fan, butthurt that he was so shit and the majority on the Caf didnt like your darling. He could only get better, because he looked like Blackett/McNair in his first season. They would have improved too with that much game time and patience. The truth is he played better for Sweden than here, and he seems finally to have turned it around.

I call it how i see it, and am not blinded by favourites in the squad. Opinions can change, just like performances.

He's had another very good game, here. Props where they're due, put a world-class CB next to him and we'd have some partnership.

He’s had about 8 matches where he’s ranged from “better than jones” to “leader”. So not shit but still got a long way to go. I’m still concerned by his arial prowess and his positioning. He’s been very good in his usage of the ball and against teams who primarily play on the ground. He’s done enough to warrant being picked but I’d like to see longevity in his consistency before I start getting excited, so I’ll reserve judgement for now

It's a remarkable improvement. He's gone from looking like a complete liability to arguably our best defensive player in about a year.

No need to act the dick when the opposing opinion you are mocking seems to be the correct and rational overall.
If he wasn't signed by Jose he wouldn't be getting half the shit aimed at him. He was getting criticised before he even played a game for us ffs

So you're trying to prove what point exactly? He was nothing short of shit until 3 months ago. 99% of the Caf agreed.

Heading is way overblown in England. If the team is playing well and dominating the opposition, there are far more important traits. Some fans think you need one defender to just stand there heading the ball all game.

Yup, I saw him live against Crystal Palace and he was one the only players that stood out for me. He’s starting to look like a good defender.

That's fair. The problem was people deciding he should be sold so soon.
The point is that people can't seem to think further than the last 90 mins of football they've just witnessed. Both Lindelof and Bailly had literally 1 season each of top flight football before moving to Man Utd. If they weren't kind of shit at the beginning and somehow performed to Ferdinand standards immediately, it would be an absolute revelation. A guy that is a NT regular and just cost 30 million pounds obviously has enough talent for top coaches to take him seriously. It's also not a surprise if that talent doesn't come through right away. Much more mature players have come into this club and shit their pants the first year or so.

Also look at the posts after Dalot's first couple of games. A 19 year old making his debut at Man Utd, immediately being called shit and a waste of money.
