Looked good
was this intentional or did he fail to control the ball?

I don’t like Lukaku but Iwobi clearly flicked the ball right in front him (it was very difficult to react to that) and diverted it into Young’s path.

Pogba, Pereira, Rashford, Young are all better. All are right footed though (Pereira is using his left when he’s on corners from time to time though).

Edit: Sanchez as well, forgot about him.

Lukaku’s shot is bad though. His accuracy is horrible and the strength of his shot is nothing special, so I’m not sure why he is trusted with free kick duty.
After setting up 2 goals I’m sure he just wanted a goal to end things nicely. Surely he can’t be on free kick duty. This is like the second free kick he has taken this season.

Could he be the solution for our right wing? Even for Belgium he looked better on right wing than as a striker. His first touch is shit, but his cross is quite good, and him being so fast for a guy that big and strong must be terrifying for the defenders. Would like to see him getting a few games in that position.
He can't be a RW. That's specific tactic in certain game.
If there's space ahead of him like yesterday.
It won't work against small teams that park the bus and give him no space to run into.

Not unless we sign an unreal right back to accommodate. There’ll be so much space behind otherwise, can’t depend on him to track.

Could you put him right of a front three and have a industrious/conservative RCM behind him? Herrera maybe? Could work in games like yesterday’s. I actually think Lukaku’s crossing is underrated.

It can work yeah, but I’d rather Herrera doing his own running and his own usual intelligent work (pressing, quick passes) rather than covering for Lukaku for a full game.

I think he could, but there has to be space in behind for it to work.

I think it’s great to have a player like Romelu at the club. He has great working morale. He’ll do the work regardless of his position or how he’s used. He has some brilliant qualities. He can handle being benched and return with 3 goals and 2 assists in something like three games playing time.

How about the fact that most of the goals he scored with us were meaningless and indecisive ? He scored mostly when we were leading already. If he was more clinical Mourinho might still have his job.
Scored the first vs Newcastle and the second vs Reading when we were only up by 1. How is that meaningless? And now 2 decisive assists against Arsenal.

That’s a really good spot. Clearly totally blameless for missing that but also even more obviously not an intentional dummy!

He was class in the first half yesterday. That pass through to Sanchez would've started a wankfest in the Messi thread (with me being one of the big culprits). Really impressive.

Forget Messi. Had that been Martial, the Martial FC flags would be out. Unfortunately for big Rom, he failed to control the ball once or twice so we have to overlook the fact that he contributed massively to the win so that we can laugh at him.

He was pretty poor in the second half, but in the first, he looked proper.

Feck off with that. Lukaku was proper poor in the second half and although he contributed to our two goals he was pretty frustrating overall with his lack of techincal ability.

Probably the most balanced heatmap we've had all season

Bizarre. Some people appear to be still rooting for some players to fail. We have an almost fully functioning squad, lads. Embrace it.

Playing Lukaku as a right winger is a very interesting option. He got the pace to stretch the play or to take on the fullback, which Lingard and Mata don't. We attack mostly on the left, so the oppositions put a lot of men there. When we switch to the right, the right winger is usually on 1vs1 with the fullback. Therefore, If we have someone with pace to beat the fullback, we can do some serious damage there. Another the situation we can take advantage of is when we cross the ball from the left wing with Shaw, Martial, or Pogba, Lukaku come in from the right and can easily bully the fullback to get a header.

The future is really bright here. We can see the progression of the team after every game. Against Newcastle, Pogba struggled a lot because there was no space on the left. Brighton tried to do the same, but this time Pogba occasionally moved to the right and take the position of the right winger. Matic switched the play, Pogba 1vs1 with Bong and got a penalty. We were really shaky against Spurs but Arsenal, who has similar strength in attack, barely put a scratch on us, Ole proudly said it's the game we played under him. I hope we will continue like this and Ole, together with his staff, get the job.

Edit:Forgot to mention worrying about wingers tracking fullbacks is so Mourinho. Against top teams, they stayed high to counter attack and against weaker teams, we dominated possession, so under Ole our wingers almost never tracked back. when our fullbacks were outnumbered, the midfielders helped out.

Just to be clear, our tactic was clearly leaving Lukaku up the pitch on our right to exploit the space after Kolasinac bombs forward. That does not mean Lukaku cant do a shift defensively in a different match. That just wasnt our tactics on the day. We gambled that we'd get more from him going forward than Arsenal would be able to punish us and it worked out.

He cant play rw in all games. Definitely not against the likes of City,Pool,Chelsea,Tottenham etc.
He hasnt got the engine or agility of an orthodox rw to help our rb with the defending and tracking back.

There was a reason why iwobi and co caused us so much problems during the first half
And a reason why Arsenals goal came from his side.

Because he was told to not help defensively past the middle of the field...

Our tactic (also vs Spurs) was for the RCF and LCF (not wingers) to not track their fullbacks. Herrera was the one tracking Kolasinic not Lukaku

Man Utd 2:2 Burnley
He headlines our attack and suddenly we couldn't get any shot on target in the first half. At some point when do we all agree that Lukaku doesn't do enough on the ball whether it be passing, shooting holding up the ball and bringing others into play. It's just not enough against these brutes we played today.

Very ineffective, doesn't offer the movement of Rashford or Lingard and I don't know why we keep hitting it long to him, he's not good aerially and can't hold the ball up.

Just a normal day in the office for our Rom. Arsenal match was the exception.

Was okay-ish, could have scored. Would certainly have kept him on rather than Mata given how the latter played today. Us playing like he's good in the air when he isn't won't suddenly start working though.

He should've stayed on the pitch and the wasteful Rashford should've been subbed

Would've had an assist and a goal if Heaton hadn't saved that shot and Rashford missed his.

Maybe because he put it on a plate for Rashford and Marcus hits it wide.

Wonder what you say if Rashford scores.

Can't call him today, the service to him was absolutely shocking. There was much worse performances by others.....

His movement is poor. Always waiting for the ball magically to find its way to his head or feet.

Granted should have had an assist if Rashford had taken his chance.

The two worrying things tonight were Andreas and our lack of actual interlinking football. We seemed to be trying to play it long in behind a lot.

Service wasn't shocking, he just wasn't available. When rashford plays as striker we hardly ever complain about "service" because rashford does his best to include himself in the buildup.

He had a nice layoff which Rashford should have finished, but apart from that I can't think of how he helped us today.

I would like to see the number of aerial duels he won today; we need to stop getting fooled by his size. I find it best to picture him as a faster Chicharito with lesser movement and a poorer touch. He had the worst passing accuracy in the team today at 66%.

The problem is that the entire team is far less effective when Lukaku plays upfront. Rashford is shunted out wide, we have someone who can't play on the right wing playing on the right wing, and the team loses its balance going forward. I think we're going to give him many more chances given the fee we've signed him for, but it is quickly becoming apparent that barring a miraculous turn in form he does not have a future as United's starting forward.

Think he did ok this game. His positioning was very good. Shame no one could pass the ball to him. And when they did it was too late or in a non scoring position. Everyone just kept crossing it to him. Hell he woul df have made yet another assists had rashford scored. Lukaku made that chance happen. I know it's a positive post. Very rare on here.

The service was absolutely shocking tonight and we attempted to cross the ball more times this game since Ole took over which played into Burnleys hands. I get people don't rate him and we drew but this wasn't about him today.....
