I'm not so sure about players from dortmound. They work really well within a system but outside of it I'm just not that certain that they will. Sancho is definitely top of the pile when in comes to right wing, but the risk aspect will be significant, if we do end up getting him .

Not to mention that he may cost North of 80 million and we need to invest in an effective right back as well.

Sancho would be the ideal fit both stylistically and personality wise. A front three of Martial, Rashford and Sancho would be unreal.

A nice feck you to City is the icing on the cake too.

Even if we can only sign a 6/10 RW this summer, it'll improve our team no end.
This policy should be ended. We had a lot of years of players’ mediocrity, not anymore. Mediocre players we can get off our academy (sometimes even good or better, actually), and 6/10 is just that - “average”. We can’t compete for titles with average players, so this is a big “no”.

It is much better to purchase lower number of players, but of excellent or outstanding quality, than to buy a larger number of 6/10 players simply because “we need to buy someone for this position”. No, we have “someone” in reserves, and in abundance

As such, if we can purchase a player like Sancho (or another of comparable talent and performance level), very well. If we can’t - much better to invest in a world class CB, excellent RB and preferably excellent or at least very good CM who is able to compete with Matic and Herrera.

If we really have only 200m pounds for a summer transfer window, it’s not much and clearly not enough for acquisition of 4 players of Man Utd starting XI caliber, so better not to reduce this transfer kitty further by purchases of 6/10s

I'd be aiming for 2

a Sancho/Dembele and an Ericsson/Fekir

alongside a CB and RB/CM

a few sales and Young player promotions to balance things

Yep agree. He has become my ideal choice and we should be all over him to prove a point.

I honestly think that way of thinking is why our club has comparatively struggled since SAF. Instead of thinking 'bigger picture' and how different players might compliment certain tactics or each other you're going own the line taken already by our previous failed big name signings. Have we learnt nothing from Alexis, Falcao, Di Maria and Depay?

Our glaring weakness both offensively and defensively is our right flank and, whilst we've at least attempted to address the RB slot, I can't remember the last time we signed an actual RW. That point is all the more galling when you think that Mane, Sterling, Salah, Pedro, Mahrez, Willian, Shaqiri, B Silva, Lamela, Tadic etc etc have moved club. Now I'm not saying we should have signed all of those players (or could have) but there are a lot of players who could have come in and improved us without necessarily being "world class".

For example, I don't think anyone would have dreamed of calling Mane world class when Liverpool signed him for £34m, in fact people including Phil Thompson were citing it as overpaying, but because he suits their system he's developed incredibly well. It's about finding the right types of players to fit into a system and our system needs an RW. If we can sign Sancho that's great, but if we can't we still need to find one asap.

Of course the system needs an RW. However, CB, RB and CM are also a must, and funds are limited... Unless we promote Garner and he delivers, we can’t get away without a CM purchase.

To add to that, we have Lingard who performs decently in the squad, and this potential RW must be a better player in order to hope to start games, whereas we don’t have anyone at RB, don’t have any competition at all for THREE midfield slots, and have only one good CB.

Also, perhaps we could use Greenwood at RW? He has huge talent without a doubt, maybe even without experience he would be able to perform not worse than a 6/10

So, it’s a question of prioritization also

Oh that video got my heart pumping, no one in this world can convince me that Ronaldo was a better all round player at Real than he was for us in those glorious three seasons between 2006 and 2009.

If we’ve got £200 million to spend then world class centre back and right sided forward are the two most important positions and if it takes most of our budget then so be it as we’d look a different team with those two positions filled in genuine quality.

The right wing is the only position where we absolutely need to buy this summer. For every other position, we should only look to bring in the ‘right’ player, whereas for that attacking right-sided role if we can’t get a preferred option we should start heading down the list of attainable players and ‘settle’ for someone. Our current choices for right wing don’t want to - and don’t - operate from that area, and our team setup is severely unbalanced and lopsided, and needs to be corrected.

We most certainly could go without a midfield signing, as we have a strong starting three - two of which are relatively versatile - and just bought a player for that area in the summer, brought a player back from being on loan who has been nowhere near as bad as made out, and have yet another two players who like to operate centrally deployed out wide.

They would have to be a great player - an upgrade in either Matic or Herrera’s position - to be a worthwhile signing. There is no point in purchasing for ‘depth’ - that would be a waste while we have starting berths requiring attention. As you said, we need to prioritise.

But if we don't acquire our top choice and just "settle for someone", how do you see a line-up (in attack)? Most certainly Rashford, Martial and Pogba will play, so we drop Lingard. Fine, but he provides link-up play and is good in pressing the opposition - we can lose these attributes opting for this "someone" (though, of course, someone may, in turn, provide much better end product compared to Lingard, which will be a good thing). That said, the system itself will change with an addition of a proper RW (I don't say it will be bad - very possibly it will be favourable)

Either a good RW, or a total attacking right back in Dani Alves, Cafu, or Maicon mould.

I disagree, I don't think CB or CM is a must - it'd be awesome but it's not as critical as RW. As Lindelof has proven after being absolutely torn to shreds (I remember Carragher commentating on him and saying he couldn't criticise because he's just not at PL level) players you might think are rubbish can actually be good in the right environment. In the same vein someone like Koulibaly might be awful & we have a plethora of CBs at the club.

It would be great to find top players for a whole range of positions but we simply have no natural RW. I addressed the issue with Lingard in my first post and suggesting Greenwood is, at least in my mind, unwise because a) Chong is surely ahead of him in the pecking order for RW and b) he should play and be developed as a striker. I'm not saying we don't have players who can play RW, it's just we've got a load of guys we're shoehorning into the RW slot like Lingard or Mata.

Bloody hell, that Ronaldo clip took me back down to the memory lane. Would love to have another special young talent like him at our club again. He was an entertainer with output at our club, at Madrid he was just a goal machine. As good as Martial and Rashford are, and they are really good, they just don't give you the "how the feck did he do that" reaction that Ronaldo used to give consistently.

Haha. We all went mental when Rashford did that quick little Elastico that resulted in a goal. You are definitely right, we are yearning for those days. Martial has those moments though, at least for me. He just has this very quick way of owning a dribble so that even if a defender gets a touch on it he will get it back and be through. He has done it multiple times but I wish we had him in those situations closer to goal way more often.

I have my doubts about the timing though, is he ready to take on the Epl and make a instant impact like Martial with a big money move and hype he will get with that? Physically he doesn't seem ready to me yet.

There's very few players now who can do that - it also seems like a lot of coaches discourage taking players on if there is a pass available. In the PL, in terms of wide attackers it's only Hazard who has proven he can do it consistently and

I think it's a pity how Ronaldo sacrificed so much of his game for sheer output.

Truly is, although doubt he'll have anything against the return he got tbh. Ronaldo during his time with us was something else, never backing down from the challenge and rarely ever was ge going down from the slightest contact.

I’d happily pay Barca 200mil for Dembele but alas it’s an impossible dream. Watch that video of early Ronaldo and some of the things he was doing and the closest thing to that is Dembele because some of his trickery and audacity to do it in a game are mind boggling.

He is also the most 2 footed player I e ever seen in my life and to this day I’m still really not entirely sure what foot he prefers. He mostly pushes off his right foot when traveling but he will even switch that to his left mid run. Just think he would have been an incredible signing.

So with him not being available I guess that does really only leave Sancho.

Apparently Douglas Costa is ready and considering his pace, I think we would be benefited. Plus, he wont cost that much anyway and would be a good competition for Lingard, as right now he is enjoying no competition status (as mata has practically wilted away)
He's fallen out of favour at Juventus so he's look for a way out. He's got pace now, but for how long considering he'll be 29 this year?

But he could be a useful experienced option with Chong and Mason coming through the ranks

No need for big bold letters hissy fit mate. Sure, he can teach them how to spit at people I suppose. Don't think Juventus would let him go for cheap and we can't afford to spend big on a temporary RW solution.

I'd love it for Chong and Greenwood to break through ranks asap, but it will probably take time.

Ugh, don't want Douglas Costa anywhere near the club, huge question mark over his attitude and he's much better on the left than he is on the right. Personally I'd just wait for Sancho but if we absolutely must buy I like Chiesa and Under of the options out there, that's of course depending on if Ole or womever the manager is wants an actual wide player rather than a floater.

He’s been linked constantly for almost a year now which tells me it’s agent talk and begging somebody to come and bid for him.

His attitude doesn’t seem like the type we’d want in our team.

If Solari (or the new coach) prefers Vinicius and Vasquez over Asensio and the offer would be 100+m then who knows.
Well if that's the case it would be awful lot of money to pay for a LW mate, plus for a player that can't make it work in the post-Ronaldo Madrid era. Surely in that case we could spend those 100+ million elsewhere, right?

Either way it's Perez mate, he infamous for his tendency to pick a team, which only didn't work with Zidane because he's well, Zidane.

ESPN has United paying 50m pounds for Ryan Sessegnon. According to Transfermarkt, Sessegnon has 1 goal and 2 assists in 270 minutes at RW vs Spurs, Cardiff, and Arsenal this season, his best production per match in any position in the EPL. Maybe Ole see's something there.

He's a left winger, not a right winger though?

Asensio is such an uninspiring option. It will be kind of a Mata situation again - a player whose best position is still being debated. MA is not clinical enough to play as forward and not fast enough to play on right .

Has Chiesa been mentioned? I don't know too much about Italian football these days, but he fits the profile. Can use both legs (is right footed, but can use both), has some decent technique and flair and is hard working. Just a thought.
How highly rated is Maxi Philipp ?
If you talk about Phillip on Dortmund, he is rarely the first choice, but he is a good player. But from what I have seen we might as well keep Mata since he is already a safe card and Phillip, as I see it wouldn't be much of an upgrade anyways.
