Smalling turns as quick as the Titanic. Not sure some of you are on about. Defending against the likes of Mbappe isn't about a 100 dash in a straight line.
With the ball... but he won't have the ball when Mbappe has the ball.

I know that in this context that's a positive thing but this scenario still scares me. That has nothing to do with Smalling though, I'd just prefer if Mbappe never had the ball at all.

The battle is not Herrera vs Verratti but Verratti vs Pogba.

    ----------------------Mbappe-----------------------
    --------------Draxler------------Snakeman
    Bernat--------Marqinhos---Verratti-----Alves
    -----Kimpembe—Thiago Silva------Kehrer------
    ----------------------Buffon-------------------------

Who are these French pundits? The troll @BalanceUnAutreJoint ?

The PSG bench: Youth League level--- Nkunku, Diaby...
    RMC, L'Equipe.

I see what you mean. I dislike them too.

The issue is they say one thing one day and the contrary the day after
They don't really know what they want. Rather interesting relationship between L'Equipe and the club since they're often in conflict. However, since PSG is the biggest draw in the press, they have to talk about them.

I want Jones to play because then it allows Lindelof to play on the right hand side, he's a lot better there as he can actually build attacks from that side.

Medias absolutely need PSG and you know artificial scandals/issues have to be created to sell papers.

PSG has publicly criticized Lequipe and boycotted theirs journalists, which is not a great strategy IMO

It's better to cooperate with them, make interviews for Lequipe and send the required messages about refereeing, financial fair play... In return, Lequipe will act in a better way.

I genuinely believe we are going to batter them.
So do I. I feel that it could be like a Champions League night of old with Fergie at the helm. Everything so far from United under Ole would suggest so.

It's going to be a cracking game regardless of who wins.

I almost feel sorry for poor PSG.

    Almost.

I don't really fancy our chances tbh. Mbappe will enjoy our flakey defense far too much. But we certainly have a decent chance if luck is with us. I think we should all just enjoy the occasion and not feel the pressure. It would be wrong to judge Ole and the team on this tie. It's too early for that.

I fear Mbappe / Di Maria on the counter, we have to be very careful of them.

We know we struggle to break teams down so we have to make sure we don't concede first.

    Stick Herrera on Mbappe?
Waste of Herrera. If Mbappe plays RW then Shaw is good enough defensively to deal with him for pace and strength.

If Big man Andre keeps up his current form, he'll be key to us winning the game both home and away.

Forget Mbappe, how do we handle this Chupo-Mooting fella?

He put two past us for Stoke! ;)

What an odd signing that was. Some moneyball analysis has gone into that somewhere.

In fact, if both Neymar and Cavani are out, I find it hard to understand where all this fear comes from? They now have a weaker side than us - I would think only in 3 out of 11 spots they are clearly ahead (Mbappe>Rashford, Veratti>Matic and Tiago Silva>any our CB).

On the other hand, we are clearly ahead in at least 4 positions (de Gea>anyone, Pogba>anyone, Martial>Draxler, Herrera>Marquinos/Dani Alves). Additionally, albeit Mbappe is of course ahead of Rashford now, the gap is not as huge as with de Gea or Pogba on our end).

We have also Sanchez on the bench who can help as a sub, whereas they don't have anyone left in attack

Opinions are different and that’s why we have a forum. Bailly may be faster but is more errror prone and lesser experienced than Smalling. I like Bailly but for an important game, I would put Smalling if fit in there in a heartbeat.
This isn't a matter of opinion but facts. The argument was about who's faster and Bailly is clearly the faster player.

Now if you want to talk about who is better to play this game, etc then that would be another matter altogether.

I obviously care about the result, but, I don't really at the same time. I want us too just too show that we belong back at this level, because we do. Ever since Sir Alex Ferguson we have been found wanting, even the Europa League win had an air of fluke about it.

With that said, these lot are there for the taking. I am down for a 3-0 to us.

Huge game this, can't wait. Won't be easy to stop them from scoring. 3:1 would be a good result, given that Neymar will miss the second leg as well.

Are we 100% that Cavani won't play? We've only really got Smalling who could challenge him physically and aerially, though he'd no doubt struggle (and of course, there's VAR so corners would be super risky given his appetite to hold onto shirts).

Putting in Bailly just because Mbappe is fast is also risky given his penchant for making rash needless challenges and doing karate kicks when simple headers would suffice.

If it's Jones and Lindelof, we'll presumably have either Herrera or Matic drop a bit deeper to protect the space.

Very interesting to see how Ole will approach this.

I'm gutted that we don't get to watch these games on Sky or ITV. I hate relying on those crappy streaming channels that keep dropping out. Will have to listen on the radio.

I can't see how we keep a clean sheet, but I like our chances of outscoring PSG, so 2-1 for me.

Do they reset yellows after the group stages? If not then Verratti, Kehrer and Matic are all in danger tomorrow. Need someone to wind up Verratti.

I don't know, I guess there is a karma and she sure is a bitch, because PSG just can't catch a break in Europe. 2 months ago United seemed dead and buried and PSG were flying with, by far, the better squad. Now, they are pretty much the underdogs. At least in my eyes.

They certainly aren't underdogs, yes they have lost 2 key players but they still have quality players who can hurt us. I think we have more of a chance now then we did few weeks ago.

French papers called this a "winnable tie" for PSG. Mourinho's rep was really tanking in Europe, what with our rivals wanting him to remain as our manager and the European media treating us like minnows against the likes of Juve and PSG.

If anything, Ole has actually brought some self-respect back to the club and it is clear PSG are wary now. Of course, I still rank them as 60:40 favorites despite their injury problems, but atleast they know we will be up for it rather than bending over.

Not saying we can win the CL but confidence is important in cup competitions and anything can happen. If we can get past PSG, we'll have the belief. We can't prioritise CL though, not this season although that can change if we're storming through to the latter stages

    Losing to Comeback Winning!
PSG have easy excuses if they're losing. No Neymar, Cavani and Meunier.

Rather them having full squad alas sudden injuries can't be controlled.

If we win this, skeptic football fans and so called 'football experts' will still downplay Ole.
Draw, Ole and our players will be criticized for never been that good at top level, the unbeaten runs are fluke vs weak teams.
Lose, it'll fit and reinforce their narrative 'Ole is not the right manager' and 'our players are shite'.

Just get ready with the heat afterwards.

There is this fervent mentality on these boards of always pretending that any decent team would do us in and we're forever underdogs no matter what.

Like you mentioned, as things stand with their injuries and us playing home we're the favorite for this game and that can't really be argued much. PSG strength has always mostly been their attacking force with the trio of Neymar, Cavani and Mbappe. But right now they have 2 out which is a massive blow for them and huge boost to us. People still going about this weakened PSG being favorite and overwhelming ones against us at Old Trafford are tripping, or they simply don't watch much PSG and are just going by name.

It's funny how people go on about how our defense would be got at(despite PSG attack being weakened right now) yet the same people failed to notice that our midfield is miles ahead of their which would allow us to control the game better and our own attack would cause their defense serious problems.

Somehow we're the ones who have to worry the most about a weakened PSG with a 2/3 of their normal strike force out while PSG will just keep worrying us without being under cosh themselves due to our firepower. Pogba, Martial and Rashford. PSG has a lot more to worry about then we do.

They certainly aren't underdogs, yes they have lost 2 key players but they still have quality players who can hurt us. I think we have more of a chance now then we did few weeks ago.
They're underdogs because we should be favorite for this game. Claiming that a PSG missing 2 of their main players and playing us at home are not underdogs is crazy.

I know people love underestimating us and its the thing to do but there has to be a line.
