He should have got it already. He's our best player with any sort of leadership quality. Definitely more than Valencia and Young

He's already the captain and has been for a couple of years

Valencia doesnt speak English, has been injured and hasnt played much and Young is one of our weak points and we dont see him talking and organizing the team much

Give Ander the armband and Pogba a cake on his birthday. Everyone happy.

I think he deserves it.

More importantly, where can we find like minded players? A few more in the team like Ander and we'd be golden.

That was the best impression of Robson I've seen in a while. A 9 out of 10 performance. So yeah he should be captain.

Been superb for us, he was sensational last night, unbelievable performance, as long as either him or De Gea gets it I will be happy, Pogba seems like he doesn't need to officially be captain to inspire so Herrera/De Gea I'm a happy man

Between him and Pogba for me, not sure Ander really craves the spotlight though I think he's happy just doing his own thing naturally.

I think holding the armband is not really important overall. Ander is a great player though who plays and talk with passion. I think he is happy to do the work for the team without being in the center of attention.

Ander deserves to be captain but I don't think it would improve him if he got it. Pogba may respond well to it, as I think he can be too passive in games (eg: first 30 mins vs Chelsea). There is always the chance it could backfire though. Pogba may feel unnecessary pressure to lead and perhaps the team wouldn't respond well if they saw the captain struggling.
I would be happy with either - De Gea is another solid choice.

Need to get him a new contract as a start anyway. It surely can't be long before this is sorted. He's playing well, and he's not going to be much fuss.

But would Herrera not be behind Valencia and Young in the pecking order?
For Herrera to be captain, the other 2 players would have to leave - Young is already signed up and Valencia will probably be offered a contract (all in the name of saving some money - God forbid that we should allow these 2 players to leave and buy in 2 good quality replacements, which would cost money).

Herrera leads by example, his tenacity and work rate seeps onto his team mates and they all seem show the same enthusiasm to get the ball back and fight for the cause (last night showed this perfectly).

Fantastic player, always rated him even when the Café was gunning for his blood. Mainly due to the 2 previous managers dropping him for Fellaini, then when he did get 1 game after months on the bench, he'd get slaughtered and benched again because he wasn't in great form or whatever.

You cant sit on the bench for months then be fully game sharp in your first start. His talent has been wasted, we've had a gem this whole time. P.S. if Pogba doesn't get it, Herrera is a no brainer for the arm band.

it would mean the world to him, but he won’t be affected if he doesn’t get it.

Would it motivate Pogba more... maybe... would Pogba be unhappy not to get it.... probably.

Give it to Pogba and let Ander carry on his great work on and off the pitch.

Agreed on Herrera deserving the band. I also don't agree with the idea that the best or highest-talent player deserves it (having been a coach myself). Do you really want Pogba representing the team to the ref on a questionable call? I thought Young did an outstanding job of that when Pogba got sent off against PSG . Never lost his cool but argued his case with conviction - I could read a lot of self-control on his face. There are a lot of qualities that a captain needs - pure talent is not at the top of that list.

Constantly at the STD clinic.
I wouldn't give it to Ander. He's brilliant and a leader but he's not an automatic starter from me post Summer 2019 and I'd like the captain to start games frequently. His leadership is still very important in and around the team.

In the current world of card happy and sensitive referees, an extra passionate guy like Herrera should be the last man to be talking to refs about a decision.

He is my favorite player in the team and captain without armband naturally though.

I honestly think that Pogba would move if he didn't feel valued.

No songs about him, not the highest paid player at the club at least make him captain to start a new chapter of the club history if we want to keep him.

Because I don't think that if Real want him, he would like to stay in this weird situation.
He’s the commercial face of the club

Herrera makes sense. He would see it as an honour and responsibility to the badge. Pogba would probably see it as a status symbol which would likely be a distraction.

He doesn't need it. He already is the defacto captain. Attitude really has been on-point from the moment he arrived here at United.

Herrera is the type that doesn't need an armband to be captain-like.

I think giving Pogba the more ceremonial title will do more for him, Herrera will just get on with it.

Regardless, we have two genuine leaders in our midfield. It is a great foundation to build from.
So Pogba captain and Herrera vice captain? I like it!

Ever since I saw him orchestrate Mkhi's goal in the Europa League final, I knew he'd be captain material. Every time I see him join in for celebrations I noticed he seems to be giving advice to players too.

Can't see why he shouldn't get it. Pogba is a shout but I've seen more from Ander, besides the captain doesn't have to be the best player in the team.

Is he speaking English to him? If so it looks like he is saying "I think that I played good" in a very threatening way, then pushed him. Thats funny if so:lol:

Tbh the captain's armband is meaningless in football. The captain does very little apart from toss the coin and choose which way to kick-off. Anyone can lead the team provided they have the personality to do it.

Morale builder. Definitely a captain's trait. Not only that, some signs of a coach/manager by Herrera there.

Mkhi's low on self esteem or just doesn't take the challenge of being an obvious attacking player.

I love Herrera and although he is probably more-so captain material, the safer option would be to give it to Pogba as; (1) He's a leader as well, (2) he's our talisman, (3) he's also less likely to get dropped and finally (4) it wouldn't bother Herrera if he wasn't given the armband wheras it possibly might with Paul and keeping him happy is always a plus.

If he's a regular starter next season then he's the obvious choice. Though the point about being a leader is that it's something you do anyway, regardless of who wears the armband, so it doesn't really matter anyway.

I will say though that beyond any leadership qualities, he's very savvy in terms of media handling. He doesn't say what we want to hear by accident.
