Such a mixed bag. Goals aside, some of his link up play was top drawer, followed by moments of total ineptitude. He’s an unusual footballer. Constantly going from one extreme to another. On the plus side, it must keep defenders guessing!

Anyway, fair fecking play. Those were two decent goals. When we needed him to step up that’s exactly what he did. And never any moaning or sulking after being dropped. Good lad.

Two well taken goals and he had a decent game overall.

If he doesn't figure in the managers best 11 next season then we should sell him. We've spent a crazy amount on his transfer fee and wages that keeping him as back up would be silly and would see his value nose dive. We could bring someone in as back up on much less who would contribute more than Lukaku and link up better with our other attackers.

A player that like the rest of our team needs the confidence to express himself fully. He looks a little leaner as well. I'm sure with the run of games we have coming he will be having more of the same impact for us, especially with the injuries in the squad.

Also, he now has 26 goals in 59 games for us. Which ain't too shabby considering that a) he was literally and abnormally awful for a large chunk of this season and b) even last year he wasn't as good as he was at Everton.

at least he put himself about. the 2nd goal etc. i dont expect him to play any intricate stuff but he should be using his frame at the vrry least to dominate a defender.

Credit where credit is due. He stepped in when we needed him and I am very pleased. I do not feel we have learnt anything about Rom from this games as we have always seen him score against these types and I am just glad he filled in on this occasion. MoTM. Hope it continues.

Salah has 49 goals in 62 games for Pool and cost 1/3 of the price
Which would be a telling reply if my point was "hey, Lukaku has been really great value, especially compared to Mo Salah".

Exactly the right attitude.
He gets criticized a lot, but you cannot doubt his attitude.

Any other player, even Pogba, would have sulked on the bench if he feels that he is just a squad player, but Lukaku has been a top professional and his camaraderie with the other teammates especially the forwards needs to be appreciated.
Of course he has his limitations, but he had to step up today and he did that.

Hope he scores more goals and continues to improve his link up play, it would be a good selection headache for us to have.

Excellent game from him. He won't be given credit but his link up play has been brilliant since Ole took over. Deserves fair chance as anyone else in the team.

Tbh i think he himself knows hes very lucky to be playing for a club like us and hes not really good enough.
I think he suffers from a bit of an inferiority complex because of it.
Hence all the thumbs up and claps at his team mates.
Even when they make mistakes and give him shit passes its always a thumbs up.

Aye, how the feck do you go from the strength he showed to turn the defender for his second goal to losing some of the 50/50s we've seen in other matches, with his tank physique? Just an incredibly weird player to evaluate. As you've said, I've appreciated his attitude since no longer being an automatic first choice, and he's clearly a very capable goalscorer at PL level. It's hard to imagine him ironing out the flaws in his game to the extent that I'd be comfortable with him being our main striker again over the course of a season, particularly going into big matches, but surely he's good enough for some sort of prominent squad role if he's willing to not be an automatic starter?

Already looks more lean and less bulky
If my eyes didn't deceive me, seems like against Liverpool was the most shift he's ever done in United shirt. Now he starts scoring good goals to combine with decent shift.
I think Ole's team has done some extra work on him, mentally and physically. Or the threat from Rashford spurs him to improve himself.

Anyone have a clip of him misplacing a pass in the 86th minute?

it does look a bit like that doesn't it? he has more to lose but sounds like everyone is in agreement now - player and manager - that he should trim down more. and i always felt we'd see the best of him if that were to happen...today's a good omen for that. really good performance from him and excellent attitude now

Apart from the way he plays - you can see across his upper body all across his neck and face that he has lost some muscle and weight. Doing well.

Given him bucket-loads of shit but we needed him to step up tonight and he did with two excellent finishes. Keep it up at the weekend.

I think he's one of the strongest if it's shoulder to shoulder battle, but if the defender's coming from his back he just loses strength which is really weird.

Bloody donkey, why didn't we cut our loses and sell him in January. The state of our club.
2 goals in the last 10. Welcome back CO63. Who would you choose to be our starting striker next season, Rashford or Lukaku?
He scored goals so that's that, nothing to complain about, even for those hilarious controls.

Exactly the right attitude.
That's good to see. Even though he was a his usual self with his first touch, the goals were well taken. Hope he can extend this to our upcoming games, because we will need him to keep it going.

I can’t give much of a feck about his overall game today. We are absolutely decimated by injuries and a win away is always welcome given the circumstances. He did his job, no complaint.

By the end of this season, a decision will be made I reckon. Either he’s happy to continue in his squad role (albeit a very expensive one) and the club concur, or we part ways. In the meantime, if he continues to put in a shift and contribute when called upon, all is well.

Probably his best game for us for 70 minutes. He held the ball up well and distributed it to great effectiveness. Horror miss early doors but took his first finish was lovely. His second was more Lukaku-esque, getting the ball in the net, by hook or by crook, in a crowded box.

I don't get this attitude at all. Why are people so obsessed with our finances? We've got a quality player in Lukaku, despite his flaws, so if he doesn't mind not being an automatic starter, and coming in for games like this to win us games, is it really worth selling him? If we couldn't afford his wages we wouldn't pay them.

There was an Everton person on here who said at the time we signed him that he'll come across as an average and frustrating player in most aspects, but that his finishing is about as clinical as any other striker out there. Right now that seems like an extremely accurate assessment.

Hes below Rashford and Martial in the pecking order, but maybe he can just play on the right? I know many people prefer Lingaard, and he offers something completely different, but Lukaku's best games lately have been on the right. This is assuming we play 433 though. Any kind of 442 formation and he would be forced into MF and that would be a complete disaster

He has a good cross on him but not much else to play as a winger, really. I guess we could use him there when Lingard isn't available, yeah.

He had a good game, 2 very well taken goals and really stepped up with so many players missing.

Obviously we can nit pick about his touch and few bad passes but scoring 2 goals > few bad touches.

He'll always be that type of forward- miss chances but score difficult ones.

I think it's great to have him around. He gives us different options

Yeah, he is good option to have on bench. He scores decent number of goals and also he can play as winger.

It was a response to the people saying they'd be happy seeing him play a bit part role coming of the bench. His value will decrease significantly if he's just a squad player. And it wouldn't be prudent financially from the clubs POV to have a asset lose significant value. I doubt Lukaku will want to be a bit part player either.

2 nice goals but please can someone make a video of all of his poor 1st touches.
Never mind the goals, I wanna hear what his pass completion % was.

I believe in the big guy but I don't know consistent he can be for us within the current parameters (Rashfords development at 9 being the most salient). Maybe he just needed a short of goal scoring confidence and things will be fine going forward.

Steadily improving since Jan and it sounds like yesterday was another step up in improvement.

I really liked those finishes, particularly the 2nd
