How are you coping as a City fan?

Just because I'd rather they won the league than Liverpool, doesn't mean I'm either 'rooting' for them or in any way enjoying their success!

That would be normal reaction I'd say. Maybe check the result after their games and be happy if they won and got over Liverpool.

But plenty of people here actually cheer City during games against opposition like Wolves, Watford, Palace,...if I ever become like that, I'd rather just quit following football. What's the point?

Posted this in the match day thread. But imagine being a City fan knowing your most bitter rivals are actively wanting you to win the league. Must make it very hollow.

Why would they give a feck what we wanted?
A large part of football is about tribalism. A lot of City fans I know are pissed off we are actually wanting them to pip Liverpool to the title. Sort of shows how we don't consider them as much of a rival.

There’s a weird contrast with city and Liverpool. I respect Liverpool as a club and how they are run, but hate the team. The exact opposite is true with city.

City are a hard team to dislike tbf. They play good football, and most of their players are nice guys on the face of it. I’m happy for the title to stay in Manchester, so seeing them win doesn’t really annoy me unless we’re competing with them for the league.

But Liverpool are the opposite. A club with great history, who’ve got back to the top ‘the right way’ if you like, without the aid of slavery-funded Arab state oil money. But their team is horrible and I hope they never win another single point. This is what stops me feeling dirty when I’m cheering a city goal against Watford.

That’s true, I can see how they would be pissed off by that!

This makes no damned sense. The tears of Liverpool fans makes no difference to the joy I feel after United wins a trophy.

I'm doing great. All I care about is seeing them being on the winning side whenever they play and I open my footy app. Can't bring myself to watching any of their games, though, only exception is when they pkay us, of course.

Each to their own I guess. For me 99% of the joy I get from United winning comes from the fact we've won something. The other 1% comes from winding rivals up.

Were we this open about wanting City to win it the last time we were in this situation?

Didn't people get Liverpool or City tags on their profile if they openly stated they wanted one or the other to win?

I am even watching City and want them to get their GD up, whatever helps then beat Liverpool to it.

Really need to Liverpool to drop some points before the Derby so we can beat City and not worry about the league title changing hands.

For everybodies sake, we need to be in the title race next year and not be in this crap situation of asking "which would you rather?"

Stadium half empty whilst in the heat of a championship run in....bit pathetic really isn’t it. I’m not even trying to have a dig either, it’s generally fecking appalling.

I can't really support them nor Liverpool. I guess the easy thing would be to bet some money on City to win it so there is a reason to not be against them.

Under Moyes I wanted Chelsea to win it and they had a chance for a very long time. Then in the end I was happy when Liverpool gave it away, but it did overall feel bad about City as the winner. Moyes being fired made me just wish for next season and hope we could bounce back. Although I did feel low most of the time during the spring.

I actually don't support them and won't. If Liverpool wins, I'll just pretend that the season never existed.

City are top of the league, and United fans, battling for a top four finish, feel compelled to cheer City on because the alternative is an even more nightmarish Liverpool victory. Yeah, imagine being a City fan in this situation

Under Moyes I hardly cared about anything by around January. Or Feb. When was that Fulham draw? Fecking pathetic season.

Fair point but I feel we have different approaches to football.
If I saw Liverpool fans actively wanting us to win the league it would take the edge off it a bit.
Maybe you’re a better City fan than I am a United fan.

It's been discussed ad nauseum, but I although I don't want Liverpool to win the title, I want City to win the quad even less - something unlikely to be equalled and obliterating our treble. We don't have any control over it though, so just have to hope that City get knocked out of Europe then win the PL.

On balance, the quad by City would be the worst ever result - us winning more league titles to stay ahead of Liverpool is more likely than matching the quad - and even if we did, that's as far as it would go, unless we repeated it and they didn't.

Like Pep basically alluded to, it doesn't matter to him or their fans how much dodginess they're (allegedly) getting up to behind closed doors.

Hope they see out the league season and win it. Then get utterly smashed from all angles in the summer and drop. Leaving us to step in.

It was harder supporting Liverpool when we needed favours off them to beat Blackburn, Arsenal and Chelsea when they were contesting the title with us.

Don’t give a shit about supporting them. This said, I don’t watch their games. In fairness I would maybe feel different if I were from Manchester - as it is, I don’t know a single ‘serious’ City fan, while I know a lot of Liverpool fans.

My problem is that my heart and brain want different things…..

My heart wants Liverpool to lose - badly.
My brain wants City to lose - badly.

I respect Liverpool and think they deserve it a hell of a lot more than City, but logic is kinda right out the window anyway...so I cheer on City.

I hope they win every remaining game in the premier league, and I’m coping just fine with it. Hope we knock them out the FA cup and champions league. It’s the only thing a true united fan would wish for.
Even if you have a point for many United fans, you don't get to decide what a true fan is.

Would knowing that City fans were celebrating a United victory have taken the edge off a win against Liverpool the other week? I doubt it. I doubt you'd care. You'd be thinking 'we've just beaten Liverpool, get in'. It would be a bit strange to let the feelings of another fanbase influence your own emotions.

It would make it sweeter for me. Luckily for them Everton are a million miles away from being any kind of level closer to City.

Liverpool are run well? Evra might disagree.

Generally speaking, I don't care about City. Not saying I usually want them to win but in a 2 horse race for the title it's an absolute no brainer to want them to win and I'm comfortable with that.
As long as they don't also win the FA Cup and UCL...

Hmm, in exchange for the despicable options of City or Liverpool winning the league:

I'll settle for United winning the FA Cup (beating City in the final) along with United winning the Champions League (beating Barca in final, because it's about time we beat Barca in a final)

I don't even see City as a bitter rival anymore. Their soul has been ripped out and they are nothing but a plastic club built on oil money. I can't feel any emotion towards that, so them winning the league means feck all to me. I'd fecking hate Liverpool to win it though

When I found out they won today I was happy. I don’t like it but it’s our own fault for not being in the title chase.

I'm quietly liking being able to enjoy their football. They genuinely play some incredible football.
