Meh, I love his passion and enthusiasm more than I do his ability. Cracking player on his day, capable of some brilliant performances but I'm not gonna cry about him going.

Really? They can be friends, but when it comes to business it is all about each and every single one of them. You don't stay or leave the club cause you friend is staying or leaving.
If DDG wants to leave because his pals are leaving then, sniff, goodbye David. Hope they all end up in the same club so they can continue to be happy chapy trio.
I’m not saying it’s the deciding factor, but if Madrid come in and make a similar financial offer, why wouldn’t he weigh up things like that.

Good player at times in a poor era. That’s about as good as he is/was.

Absolute shit against Watford and was played off the park by Doucoure. Shows there are far better out there.

Good luck and thanks for the memories, whatever they were

I find it odd Duncan Castles has reported it before anyone else. I’d have thought some of the French journalists would have reported something by now too.
RMC in France reported the same news last week..

If he turned down £170k then we shouldn’t go higher, that’s a huge wage for somebody of Herrera’s quality.

It might have been asked already but is Castles as well informed without Jose being at the club?

If true I’m unhappy at the club not sorting a lesser contract out 12 months ago but I only ever see Herrera as a squad player anyway if we really want to challenge again.

Doesn’t Pereira contract also run out this summer....we’ll have lost three midfielders since January. I certainly do not see McT as the answer so we must have players lined up.

I thought that was advanced talks, rather than agreeing to join?
Yes though are you secretly hoping he’s going to stay?

Come on it’s his final payday. He can’t afford to turn it down and if it’s from a plastic club like PSG then why not?

As a player he is replaceable. However, that would be more transfer work that needs to be done this summer, which is an issue given each of the last two summers has seen us fail to sign the number of players we set out to sign. I'd prefer to see us keep the amount of signings that need to be made to a minimum.

I’m just not sure why Duncan Castles of all people is reporting it as done and no one else is yet.

In terms of wanting him to stay, I like him as a player and I’d be happy for him to stay but at the same time, I don’t think we can offer the reported £200k he is getting from PSG. That’s too much for a player of his ilk and age.

It’s imperative we replace him and still go about our summer business as if he stayed.

They did report it as being in the final stages. So it seems Ander had decided to leave a while ago.

I think it's all pointing to a change of ownership..

Change of ownership as in Glazers and the Saudi stuff? Sorry you may have already said this elsewhere.

Well yes. Castles is known to work for mendes (Jose agent) and is well known for spinning positively in Mourinhos favour.

That has feck all with him being credible with United news because it's not like Mourinho and Mendes will go to tell him the news from inside the club to publish.

Anyway it's not new for the Caf to not believe the reports that people don't like.

I could be wrong, but it seems the Saudi's are incoming to go toe to toe with all and sundry.

I don't mind if he leaves, assuming it's true that he wants 200k. He's almost 30 which is "old" and hasn't done that much to request that amount of money.

Good bye, good luck.

Ander is definitely worth 200k/week to a top tier club like United or PSG but if we can't offload non-performing players like Sanchez who are something like 500k/week we may not have the capacity to pay the kind of wages required to keep our top performing players.

Ander complements Pogba brilliantly, and would find another gear if we could upgrade on Matic, a player who's clearly running on fumes now. It would be a shame to lose Ander.

I understand trying to get more money, but if we're offering something like £160 k per week, and as is claimed he'd rather stay with us, then I don't get it, just greed from a player that shouldn't be getting anything like that much on the ability he has.

You ok mate.
 Christ that's the autoprediction/correcter on my phone, for some reason it goes berserk for RedCafe! I'll try again:

I love Herrera but if this is true I can accept it.
Honestly me too, I love his passion and commitment but he's 30 soon and signing a player who's reliant on physical attributes to a 3 year £180k-£200k P/w(!!!) contract would be crazy imo, hope Olé wants to build from a younger base with lots of energy (though Herrera admittedly offers that at the moment).

He’s bang average let’s be honest. Good work rate, not much else. I like him but that is not enough. We need far better quality than he offers. Not worth that money.

Did amazingly well in our big matches then for an average player

Amazing how some on here think Herrera is average now they think he's leaving. He's a fantastic player and we are a better team with him in it.

Sorry, I just don't rate him too much. Not good enough in most matches. He doesn't add so much to the team except his supposed passion and runs a lot.
And is our ball winner, meaning we got by despite Matic being a terrible DM

It’s a shame as he has a lot of fight but hopefully we start to get better footballers. He isn’t really good enough.

"Herrera, 29, is understood to be demanding in excess of £200,000 a week, amid interest from PSG, and United are unwilling to be held to ransom."

The problem is we have been massively overpaying our players for some time now, even the underperforming ones got improved contracts so it's natural that Herrera wants top wages, but just because we gave other player stupid wages it doesn't mean we should continue this way.

We have the third highest wage bill in europe just after Barcelona and Real Madrid, and we don't even have a top 5 squad. Comfortably teams like Juve, PSG, City, Liverpool have a better squad than us, and other debatable ones in Atletico, Chelsea, Tottenham, etc

Herrera is a fan favorite, including me, but he is not a world class player and he is asking for world class wages. He wouldn't start at Barcelona, Madrid, Juve, PSG or City and he is asking for a $200,000 a week?

Answer yourselves, if Herrera was in another team would we be highly interested in him?

We have to start paying players according to their contribution, it's sad to see how we pay so much for average players and how other teams are able to get top top talent for less.

As comparison:
  • Marcos Rojo $80,000 week earns more than Umttiti ($75,000) and Chiellini ($75,000).
  • Fred $120,000 week earns more than Casemiro ($90,000) and same as Gundogan, Pjanic and Matuidi.
  • Mata $140,000 week earns more than Isco, Bernardo Silva and Dybala (all on $120,000).
  • Young and Valencia $100,000 week earn more than Meunier ($60,000) and Cancelo ($80,000) and same as Walker, Carvajal and Jordi Alba.
  • Martial $250 week earns a lot more than Sane ($90,000), Bernardeschi ($65,000), Marco Asensio ($90,000).

If we were to sign Herrera for $200,000 he would earn more than Busquets, Vidal, Rakitic, Casemiro, Isco, Fernandinho, Sterling, Gundogan, Sane, Veratti, Pjanic, Matuidi, Dybala, and the same as Kroos and David Silva.

All people saying we should pay Herrera, must be mental.

This. I blame Sanchez’s super inflated wage. Everyone is using his wage as a benchmark. DDG clearly deserves to earn the highest wage among all players.

And that’s always a danger for any club who does things like this. Feedback loop.
