That is almost an entirely new defence and entirely new midfield. I don't think we need both Varane and Koulibaly, a good partner to Lindelof and a good DM to cover them is more than enough and if we can get Rice and Saul, don't think we will have to worry about the defence much

Given that we have spent obscene amounts of money since Fergie retired, especially in Mourinho’s reign; I really don’t get the constant whining by the mewling quims in this thread. Woody this, Woody that, Woody won’t buy the players we need....blah, blah, blah. He’s bought about every player his managers have wanted, until finally last summer he pulled the plug on potential outgoing deals for Martial and Pogba; and huge money spent on Alderweireld or Maguire. And thank fecking god he did.

Honestly, some of the posts on this forum are just so tiresome. They read like spoiled little kids, who should frankly feck off to twitter and spout their faux rage there.

When we don’t get linked with players, people froth at the mouth. When the club briefs the media saying what our targets are, people froth at the mouth. When we spend money on players people say give youth a chance, we overspent! If we don’t spend huge money, people go nuts claiming lack of investment.

This forum is filling up with armchair experts who just talk an endless stream of bollocks. It’s becoming insufferable. I can’t wait until this summer is over. Transfer threads used to be fun. Now it’s just the same tired cliches about Woody. None of them are even funny or clever. They just make you look like idiots.

I'm with you on this but I wish you'd really said what you feel. :):):)

Seems kind of ridiculous to offer a five year contract to a 30-year-old midfielder whose legs look like they could be gone soon. Sounds like the PSG version of Schweinsteiger-to-United.

Players we're likely to sign (from a scale of 1 through 10):

Jadon Sancho (6)
Aaron Wan-Bissaka (8)
Raphael Varane (2)
Kalidou Koulibaly (6)
Declan Rice (5)
Saul Niguez (1)

Easier said than done with the possibility of no CL football next season.
We signed Zlatan, Pogba, and Mkhitaryan for our Europa League season, so I don't understand this myth about top players shunning clubs that are temporarily relegated to the EL. If anything, we're more likely to sign top players because the Glazers will be so desperate to get back in the CL.

Sancho, wan bissaka, rice, niguez would be a good window. I'd like a centre back but wouldn't want to pay anything crazy unless we knew we were getting top level. Lindelof is on the right trajectory and people are harsh on smalling. We need that youth and freshness, guys who will want to be here, undamaged goods to play under an optimistic manager.

Think they are the only ones we would have any chance of getting and my god we will pay for them. It will make us younger, but nowhere near challenging. We need a world class talent to lift this team to that level. Those players are good, but non are yet world class. Also if we don't get CL other Top4 teams will be looking at the players mentioned and they might be a more attractive proposition. Think it is just Ed briefing the press again, like he always does and as usual we won't get what we need. It will be nice to have a young team, but the players we are not losing are actually some of our biggest problems.

If we don't get top 4 I'd put Sancho and Koulibaly down at 3 or 4 too, no chance they leave a club in the CL for one that's not.
Napoli and Dortmund have zero chance of winning the CL anytime soon, so what does it matter if they join a club that isn't in the CL for a year?

All I see is Herrera and Mata getting new contracts when the money men shit themselves. No one taking Sanchez from us either and then a summer of "only god knows" nonsense by Pogba and De Gea regarding their futures. Oh and Ed having one last go at getting Bale. That's how little faith I have in us having a good summer window.

Don’t see the point of this kind of briefing.
Nothing sells season tickets better than the promise of several top quality players making their debuts next season.

Get yours while you still can. - Woodward

I was thinking that too but Stone did say this at the end of the article:

So fingers crossed on the DDG front.
I saw that, but I'm pissed on how this clown operates. Nothing done and he tries to play the media then it comes to bite him in the ass. I sincerely hope that he signs but stupid to leave it for the summer.

For Sancho its experience, all players want to be playing in the best competitions. If we're not in the CL next season, we'll have to use hefty wages as our go-to in our negotiations, a ploy that's served us well already.

From all the young teens we've been linked to, this kid looks a magical player in the making, and the one I'd buy above all else.

Agreed. The way he glides with the ball, he looks special. Also, has a real eye for goal and not just brilliant goals, scores his share of scrappy ones as well so gets in the right positions.

Record in Portugal reporting that us and Juventus are in negotiations with Benfica to sign Joao Felix.

Yeah just replied to you elsewhere we do need a leader too. Somebody with experience. In theory a line up of

de gea, dalot, smalling, lindelof, Shaw - - rice, niguez, pogba---sancho, lukaku, martial

Firing in a good system could be well capable of competing though we've proven for years that we lack savvy and game management when chips are down so this line up could be likely to win 4-0 one week only to lose to Burnley away the next

If we're going to be signing a few young talents then I'd like us to spend big on Koulibaly to bring some experience and maturity to the team. What is his passing like in comparison to Smalling?

Early days but my inner muppet would have a stroke if we managed to get both Felix and Sancho.

Koulibaly averaging 75 passes, more than Smalling's 40. Koulibaly makes an of passes through a line and bring balls to midfield himself.

Wunderbar. A lot of pent up frustration/frothing at the mouth is evident in a good portion of posts nowadays. Our seemingly endless plight makes you want to give people the benefit of the doubt but it does get rather tedious.

Just a couple of weeks ago when Bayern's CEO or someone announced that Bayern will be spending a lot of money this summer on an overhaul there were complaints that we never do this. When news came out that Real would be doing the same again it was the same reaction from our fans. Now that our club has apparently given a briefing that we too will be doing a major overhaul, people are complaining that we're letting everyone know we are rich and desperate.:wenger:

I think unless we are running trebles every year, people are just gonna keep complaining.

Reports are we spoke to him, but it’s all agreed he’s Barca bound.
We should have put in place a gentleman's agreement after that EL final - EVS is their CEO I'm sure they would have sold to us if we showed an interest.

We should also have bought Ali as well when LVG was here. But can’t change the past.

I agree with you on nearly everything you have said there but Woodward. Yes he has backed most managers but he has also given us one of the biggest wage bills in the world of sport while allowing managers to buy utter shite. He's at fault for a lot that is wrong with us at the moment.

Think the only thing our scouts do is follow news reports of who the City scouts are looking at
City wanted Sanchez, we sign him ; City was after Fred, we buy him, City are linked with Saul, next day we are, City are linked with Rodri, next day we are.
I know all this could be the media making up stories, but sure seem to happen often

But I do hope the reports are true, Saul Rodri Pogba is a really good midfield, although it might be lacking a second creative outlet.
