I just think it's been a bit of a damp squib tbh. It would have been nice to see us go and attack them from the first whistle. This Barca side were there for the taking tonight.
I agree to an extent but we aren't anywhere near to being a top top side yet, it's going to take a lot of money and support from the board to do that. I mean come on, Ashley Young is not just a nailed on starter but he's the fecking captain ffs. I totally understand and get your frustration but mix that with some perspective.

We've a new manager working with a squad he inherited and we were unlucky to lose against one of the best teams in Europe. Perhaps also the reason Barcelona didn't play so well was because we pressed them well in large parts of the game and didn't let them just tear us to bits?

It's a shame when you find it hard to give your own team some credit for a job well done. In 2008 we had one shot on target and beat Barcelona 1-0 on our way to the final. Perhaps there should have been no praise that night either. I mean, one shot.

Agreed. And that blind right footed cross by Lukaku. There were some Barca esq through balls attempted today...just no alert intelligent strikers reading them.
The sheer amount of wasted crosses was mind-boggling, Lukaku and Young were especially guilty of this.

I'm just happy we put on a good showing.

    Easily pleased me :D

What's the point? How does it help? Moaning like a bitch over a miss hit cross? We all know he's getting on, we all know he's a converted winger, we all know he's not the best RB in the world but feck me, he's doing a decent job under the circumstances when we need other players to play in other areas. Does he complain? Does he feck, he just gets on with it and been one of the best servants we've had in years. Do you remember that time Young was flirting with PSG for a bigger contract? Nah, me neither.
As if a team like PSG would be interested in Young? I've heard it all now!

Young'd be happy if he got interest from Grimsby Town.

We did ok tonight just didn't have enough in the final third, too many fancy tricks being tried by pogba and martial, mctominay was very impressive, fred did a good job also.

We need a winger or some wingers the crosses were awful at times especially from young, imagine if we had a kanchelskis type player on that right hand side to get those crosses in.

Game not over got a great chance i think.

Barcelona at Camp Nou is no PSG. We can’t expect them to gift us goals like PSG did. We need a better striker, a RW and a RB.
Well let's just not turn up then and give them the tie eh?

Nobody ever turned around a 1-0 deficit in a football match after all.

If we get top four we should decline our place in the CL for next season too. There's really no point even trying is there? I mean, there'll always be better sides out there...

I am complaining about Ole playing him, it’s ridiculous when we have Dalot to play as a RWB. Of course Young is trying his best, so did Rooney, Fellaini etc when Van Gaal and Mourinho insisted on playing them. Also, Herrera I don’t give a flying feck about.

Missed opportunity tonight, Barcelona weren't anywhere near their best but United failed to capitalise. Final balls/crosses were very poor, didn't get the subs that OGS made, last 10 minutes United needed a goal and only had one out and out striker on the pitch and how Young survived the 90 minutes is anyone's guess. I have defended him in the past, he is a decent stand in player in a couple of positions but tonight he was truly atrocious.
Kept waiting for him to be subbed off and Dalot switched over to the right but didn't materialise.
Don't hold out much hope for the second leg, to be honest. Certainly won't be like the second leg in Paris.

That Barca squad was better than the one we faced now. It was also a second leg, we scored early on and then kept it as that as one goal would have changed the game. They didn’t create much either that night or in both games.

Unlucky? We didn’t even have a shot on target. How is that unlucky? Go on explain. They were in third gear and had better chances.

I don’t know why you telling me about we got a new manager. Where did I say it was the managers fault? I said if people are praising that sort of performance then it’s why we come so far down. Liverpool and City would have beaten Barca easily if they played like that against them.

We lack quality in the back and more importantly going forward. I’m not going to get the Champaign bottle out and celebrate that sort of performance like you. I’m not going to say to people in a few years time remember that time we lost to Barca 1-0 at home with zero shots on target. What a memorable performance. One for the ages.

Seems many would say that about your stance tonight! But I too feel there is plenty to take from that. The simple fact we came out alert and with intent and kept it up for the entirety of the second half, without a period of complete loss of control...all adds up to a decent performance.

Now, instead of us going on a mad one about 'the shambles we are' etc, we're able to feel positively about our future with the correct recruitment going forward. Let's grow some adult teeth in the final third and we'll be ok.

That’s the annoying thing. Barca were rubbish but they still beat us at home.

I know what you mean. I agree. The level of mismanagement embedded into the club is not going to fix itself overnight. Until we fix that, were going to continue going nowhere. Thats the thing. With the size of our club, we shoudn't have to just accept it.

Also, I feel like we see the same 'deer in the headlights' performance every time and its flipping embarrassing. To go from where we were under Fergie to this? It's just annoying.

Stop focusing on the negatives (Ashley Young for example) and focus on the positive aspects of the performance, like outplaying a Barca side many expected to wipe the floor with us.

Pogba, McTominay and Fred managed to outplay the likes of Rakatic, Arthur and the other guy whose name escapes me. Surely that alone is cause for cheer.

I don’t believe he is the reason we lost. We didn’t create enough or take our chances when we had some (no shots on target).

That being said, I do think the ref was poor and not consistent, but cannot blame him for the result.
How he can book Lingard for his tackle and not another for Busquets is truly unbelievable.

Decent tactical performance that deserved a draw. Barcelona looked nervy and tactically inept. If they play like that in the 2nd leg then we have a chance.

Mentions for Fred, MacTominay, Pogba & Dalot (apart from that miss ) tonight. The less said about Rashford & especially Young the better.

Nice to see our better players were the younger players. Nice to have a manager that can actually inspire the team, and also a good balance of aggression with responsibility. I'm happier than for some time.

Zero shots on target against Barca who weren’t even in third gear. Yeah praise them to the hill.
Who gives a shit whether it was on target or not? If it doesn’t go in it’s a missed chance. Dalots chance and Rashfords volley is on target and suddenly it’s a different story? We were the better team but failed to capitalise on it.

So obviously the right time to give him a 300k a week contract. I dont know what the board and fans are smoking. What can they see that I can't, it's so bad tonight its shocking.
The 300K seems a bit excessive but that's the media reporting it or at least a poor source. Regardless of the wages, he needs to continue to step up and improve.

Ole and Mick clearly didn’t want us to be caught on any counter-attacks (Barca are quite good at that) and set-up the team accordingly. Our strikers didn’t fire at all but we don’t have a truly world class creative forward. I’d buy Griezmann if I had the chance. He’d improve our attacking play immensely.

@amolbhatia50k we sat back, and paid for it. Much better since we started playing.
Not unexpected. We kept them quiet but didn't threaten them. I'd argue that it wasn't worth it as we spent most of our home tie watching them pass it around in our half rather than putting them under real pressure.

What did we do in the game? 0 shots on target at home. A poor Barça side and we still lost. We huffed and puffed that's it
