Do we want to lose to City?

Feck the top 4 but also feck City and Liverpool. We are united and we should be winning all of our games. I want us to win against City and I don’t care if that means handing the title to Liverpool. We don’t do favours for anyone. That’s how it should be.

Great to have a game to look forward to, we spoke about it, forget about this, we’re out, we wanna be here again and to be back at these stadiums we need to be in top four, fantastic week, players in a good state mentally and they’re strong mentally and at Goodison it’s gonna be a hard game.

I will never understand supporters who want their own team to lose.

I can only guess it means the dislike for the other club is bigger than the love foe your own club.

But maybe I need to be enlightened.

They are worried about people taunting them.

What exactly did playing in this season's CL do for us?
Playing in the CL has little intrinsic value unless you win it but you're failing to look at context. We have a new manager, a club legend, who everyone has high hopes for and who's trying to build something. Why actively want us to play in a competition that makes his life harder just because we don't want rivals gloating?
I just don't get that mentality and as much as I hate Liverpool I can't subscribe to it.

No. I never want United to lose. Even if it hands Liverpool the title. Sure we could get our own back for Gerrard’s back pass but we are not Liverpool. If we deliberately throw this then we are the same as them and I don’t want that.

If beating city means we get top four and results in Liverpool winning the league you have to want that!

Don’t let your hate for Liverpool exceed your love for united. Sure I would hate to see Liverpool get their hands on the PL trophy and the inevitable media wankfest that would follow, but I want to see my team in the champions league!

If we make top 4 then it'll be a modest transfer window, if we don't make the top 4 then the board will panic and splash the cash. Add to this that top 4 is not a trophy and 1 season out of top 4 does very little for us. The choice is simple.

The money men have fooled people into thinking top 4 is the holy grail, it isn't. All it does is line thier pockets. 1 season out of top 4, but working on a team structure, vision and plan will see us back at the top.

So many of you are saying that missing out on top four doesn’t matter much in the grand scheme of things. And while that might be true for a club as big as United, you’re ignoring the fact that if you were to make it, your new manager who’s also a United legend would’ve done the near impossible of getting you there after being 11 points behind.

And sure, players will always want to play for United, but of course it will be easier to persuade them if you have the CL.

If we beat Everton and City beat Spurs then I'd be OK with a loss. Else, we'll have to win to finish top 4.

I’m not:lol: I just genuinely don’t understand why you wouldn’t want your new manager to have the possible starting point next season.

I know. It goes without saying that we want to lose.

So true!

I know die hard, matchgoing fans that don’t miss a home or away game that want us to lose the City game.

I think it’s difficult for the out-of-town supporters to grasp. You don’t truly get the Utd/Liverpool rivalry unless you’ve grown up in England, especially in Manchester and the North West.

Aye. I'm obviously not English but I joined the Caf at 15 and have basically received my "United education" on this board - at a time when it was less vanilla too

For me it's obvious that we should not want Liverpool to win the league no matter what.

I am certainly not going to tell any one how they should feel or if they should wish to win or lose this match. Each to their own.

You can help us by winning and I perfectly understand why it's a no go for you. Or you can help City by losing and then play your thursday nights next season in Ukraine or wherever you end up. Not to mention digging yourself further into this little crisis of yours.

The real question is.. Do you want syphilis or Gonorrhea?

I can't remember why I joined this war.
We are fighting 4 the CL, so loosing to do someone a favour is no option!
Especially not to City. Would it suck to see Liverpool win the league? Yes but it also sucks to lose against City or see them win the league. Let's face it we are in a shitty position and neither City nor Liverpool winning the league will make me personally happy, playing in the CL next season though would be something that would make me happy. That's why I'm going with win all remaining games if we can even do it, no matter who wins the league in the end.

And yes it's probably largely due to me being German and not having annoying Liverpool fans growing up being the main reason why I don't see City winning the league over Liverpool as the lesser evil.

Exactly, if you’ve grown up with the rivalry surrounding you, you’ll know why a lot of us will take the loss against City. Long term, it won’t effect us at all if we lose that game.

Nah, we have to try to win.

However, as Gary Neville pointed out, of the next three games Everton is the most winnable and Chelsea the most important. So if we had to rotate players for one of those games then the City one might make the most sense. Obviously you still try to win the City game, you just prioritise that Chelsea game because (as people have already said) we have to focus on our own top four ambition first.

If doing so results in a greater chance of City beating Liverpool to the league title then hey ho.

Never want United to lose.
And now that Cardiff have a reason to beat the dirties, us beating City may not have a bearing on the title.

Next season United should just delibertely lose every game to Chelsea Spurs City and Arsenal.

I mean why start at the end if there is already so much help you can give for your dream to come to realisation in the first half of the competition.

Half of the fans here apparently dont have elite club mentality anyways. So why should the team bother at all.

It's not that I want to lose, it just won't hurt as much when we inevitably do. It's not like we have much of a chance anyway.

Should have moved to Liverpool, plenty of United loving kids there.
Didn’t always live in Manc, was born there, did primary school there. Went to secondary school in Warrington. Surrounded by Scousers.

Why do people care about shit like football?
No... care so much about the opposition? The only time I really hate them is the morning of a game against them? Find it weird caring about them at any other time?

The moon gave me flowers for funerals to come.
Hope the mods can make a poll.

A loss to Shitty could probably cost us a top 4 spot, but also likely prevents the dippers from winning the league.

I am deeply conflicted, can't decide if I want shitty to beat us 1-0 or properly thump us so it helps their goal difference.

Opinions?
I dont mind losing to them if it stops the other lot from winning the league even if it costs us a CL spot.
If we lose to them and miss out on CL only for city to balls it up and liverpool win the league I'm taking a break from the internet :D

Ajax fan. Mind your own business.

So, we want to lose to our rival and hope they win the league to stop another rival from winning the league and therefore probably miss out on top 4 and a CL spot. Bloody Hell!
