Do we want to lose to City?

I wanted City to beat us in the Moyes season as well to ensure Liverpool don't get the title.
This is literally the title decider match. There won't be any twist after this unlike 2014 match up.

1. We sit 2-3 points outside top 4 despite our dreadful first half, the London trio are not much ahead of us (if at all)

2. Probably not my choice but agreed Ole should be given some time

3. That’s not true, plenty have said that Lukaku was a bad choice and many complained about the Sanchez wage, more have said Jose was not suitable (I admit I was one of his biggesr advocates on here)

4. Our expectation is that the results reflect our status and spending as a club, how is that unrealistic?

5. Pogba seems to attract interest from clubs willing to pay, how are we stuck with them?

6. Given our income and purchasing power, it’s very unlikely that we’ll continue to get it wrong again and again. Of course there’s nothing is guaranteed in life, but it’s not unrealistic to think we have a better chance than anyone other than City in the long term.
Your status and spending have zero impact your performances and results. Thats what your getting totally wrong. The 2 things which impact results are quality, and performance level. The quality you have is position 3 at best, and your performance level is slightly below. Your not telling me you think because you spent a lot of money but have the likes of Shaw, Young, Smalling and Rashford in the side you should be doing better?

Ok some people did say that Lukaku was a bad choice, and likewise with Sanchez, and even Pogba. But come on, in the vast majority nobody was up-in arms when you signed them, everyone was quite happy (in the main) to go along with it. Hindsight is a beautiful thing.

I don't think you understood my comment about being 'stuck with them'. Yes you could offload them, but right now you need a minimum of 5 quality players IN. You start offloading players, and that number goes up. Even if you are in the champions league, you have zero chance of attracting the quality and quantity you need quickly. Least you can afford to do is wave bye bye to one of the planets finest mids, and leave youself even shorter. For gods sake I've read threads talking about de Gea being dropped. This is fickle, the guy is conceding more shots than at any other time. It goes without saying he is going to concede more goals and make more mistakes.

Can't criticize your players for lack of application and professionalism when you are egging them on to lose a match!

How the might have fallen.

Yes. If we'd have won against Everton I might have a different opinion but beating City and then still playing Europa would be an absolute disaster.

Of course we don't want to lose to City! I don't take it as a serious question. A derby win goes a long long way to restoring pride. Imagine how you'll all feel if and when we win. I'll take 1-0 all day long.

It's not a question of if we want to lose but if City can't beat us then THEY don't deserve the League.
Liverpool couldn't beat our reserve team at Old Trafford, so they certainly don't deserve the league either then.

Hope the mods can make a poll.

A loss to Shitty could probably cost us a top 4 spot, but also likely prevents the dippers from winning the league.

I am deeply conflicted, can't decide if I want shitty to beat us 1-0 or properly thump us so it helps their goal difference.

Opinions?
I never want to lose to anyone. As much as I would want to vomit if Pool wins the league, if they win it, they won it because they were consistently better then everyone else. Our desire should always be to step onto the pitch and destroy the opposition regardless of the table, location, or size of the club on the other end. Anything less then that is not representative of the Attitude that Manchester United should have.

You have literally just made that up.

What about 1995? We beat Blackburn for United.

Also, does any rationale person actually believe Gerrard intentionally passed the ball to Drogba.
Can we ban scousers just here to post lies?

Some people have short memories of when they were egging on other teams so the great United don't reach Liverpool's 18 leagues!

Some people have short memories of when they were so happy and elated when 'Slippy' slipped (poor kid!), and when there was a mistaken back-pass to Drogba to score!

Yes, 29 years without the League is hard to bear for the mighty!

I can't post the stadium photo because the site is block it from my work computer but google "Liverpool Chelsea cockney for a day" and it's this flag in the stadium.

I believe I am owed an apology.

Even if you could give them a game, you have to lose to City. It is for the greater good.

I just wanted to double check when Liverpool last won the league and typed "Last time" into google. Got that far and the top suggestion was "Liverpool won the league" :)

I was 13 when that happened, I don't want to give them even a sniff of another title. When they were really in their pomp in the early/mid eighties I was at primary school in Watford and at the time more than half my school were Liverpool fans and it was fecking horrible whenever they won anything. Do not want to ever have to relive that again, will be even worse now, just won't be able to escape it for the whole summer.

No. Don't ever want to lose to our main rivals, especially not with top 4 still a possibility. People forget how Sterling and others were showboating last time we played them.

Whoever wins the league does so on merit and not because we deliberately threw a game. However, with the way we're playing, we'll be lucky to get a draw.

If Utd win, what exactly are we celebrating? 3 points? Local pride ? A little chance of finishing in the top 4? Convincing our selves the players are good enough? Ole getting the better of Pep ? Woodward telling the Glazers we will be fine now ?

We have more to lose if we win.....oh forgot to mention a little thing of those feckers winning the league title with our help aswel.
Win / draw and we celebrate killing city's title challenge and basically finishing their season today (except their routine fa cup vs Watford win).
Handing the title to liverpool will suck, but I'll enjoy seeing Pep's miserable face together with his players realizing their season is over. Add that to Spurs knocking them out from the CL will make their season a massive failure.

If we end up losing and City win the title, perhaps the Scousers will blame Klopp for parking the bus at OT and settling for a point instead of complaining that we didn't help?

Pay back time today for 2010 when Liverpool didn't give a shit against Chelsea.

Also: https://www.redcafe.net/threads/gar...ool-of-helping-chelsea-win-title-race.339215/

"Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has accused Liverpool of giving Chelsea a "helping hand" in the 2009/10 Premier League title race.

The Old Trafford club had hoped to close in on a record-breaking 19th domestic title but saw all hopes dashed after their West London counterparts left Anfield triumphant after a 2-0 win.

Although United would surpass Liverpool's tally just 12 months later, Neville - now a media pundit - has claimed that his club's long-standing adversaries 'eased off' against Chelsea.

"Some thought it would be a big test for them playing at Anfield with a couple of games to go and the title still up for grabs," he wrote in his column for the Mail on Sunday.

"But at United we knew that Liverpool would ease off if that meant depriving us of the championship, especially a 19th championship that would take us past their record.

"We'd heard rumours during the week that some Liverpool players had turned round to one of their young lads and said: 'There's not a f****** chance we're going to let United win this league.'"

As said, pay back time. If they would have beat Chelsea that day or got a draw then I would be all for our players trying to beat Man C, but now? Never. What comes around..

How does spending have no impact on results?

If you hadn't noticed, we have spent more and signed bigger names in those years we didn't qualify for the CL, the correlation between CL qualification and signing quality is very low.

Exactly, it's almost the definition of small clubs to prioritize games against their better neighbors and get thrashed by mid-table clubs. :(

Despite what we say in here, I'm pretty sure Ole just wants the win and will put out a decent team and try to win. That said, recent form suggests our best will not be good enough.... I guess the ideal for us is we try, put on a.good performance but lose? :)

Oh believe me, I know this is the worst outcome. Of course I prefer City winning it over Liverpool. The cringefest for the next 6 months will be unbearable, Klopp will be hailed as the scouse Jesus equal to SAF, Henderson will be hailed as the greatest midfielder this country ever seen and Salah will be the GOAT. Souness and Carragher and all of them will be a nightmare to listen to. Sky and BT will come out with cringe montages of team of the century bulshit. I know what's at stake.

But, having said that, if we do end up winning or drawing, I can definitely enjoy city's meltdown. Bit of revenge for Aguerooo.

We're at a unique situation here. No matter what happens, we take the title from one of our two biggest rivals while giving it to the other.

Exactly. I forgot our 4-2 win against them until Facebook reminded me of it, just like how I forgot about a few 0-3's they've inflicted on us in the recent times. I am sure I will move on from our 2-3 away victory pretty soon too, because in the grand scheme of things, it mattered little, if anything. A derby victory, even a 1-0, goes a long way? Hell, we play them every fecking season, it's not like they are Barcelona or Madrid.

Ferguson's response to being asked if he'd like to see United's rivals win the league was truly brilliant.

“You must be joking!” Ferguson exclaimed.

“Do I look as if I’m a masochist ready to cut myself? How does relegation sound instead?"
