Hilarious thing is that if we beat Chelsea we're still in line for top four.

Because there is no fecking way Arsenal are beating both Leicester and Burnley away.
Yup. Palace game saved us, though actually beating Chelsea is the big one. If we do I think we'll make it.

That's why I had written this game off. Just hope we can do the miraculous and beat Chelsea.

In any case, if we only qualify for EL, the Glazers will panic and allow a busy summer, so its' win-win actually. The only thing excruciatingly painful is waiting for this season to limp to an end.

Guess most of you lot are happy tonight then?

:houllier:
Why would anyone be happy besides the result and how it fecks over Liverpool?

To me, the 2nd half shows how far behind we are from winning the league. We looked competent in 1st half but once they turned up the heat, we folded like a pack of cards. We are in deep deep shit.

So? They are fifth.
I don't understand. You said that getting a point would put our fate in our own hands.

It wouldn't. It would mean we would finish ahead of Chelsea if we won all of our games, but we're still relying on arsenal to drop points.

Feck you’re right, missed that

Can definitely see them dropping more points though.

Chelsea have a better GD than us, so even 3pts on Sunday won't put us 4th.

I think they'll drop points in the other two games as well.

Chelsea and Arsenal are in as bad a state as we are right now.

I hope y'all enjoy cold Thursday nights at BATE Borisov.
No different than losing to Basel in the CL Round of 16. At least this way, it saves us a summer of hurt and Liverpool most likely stay at 18.

In the end I wanted us to either win (knowing the Arsenal result especially) or lose. A draw was pointless.

We are now 8 goals behind but we've scored more. So if we beat Chelsea by 2 goals, we only have to gain 4 goals on Chelsea in the last two games when we play Huddersfield and Cardiff in comparison to Watford and Leicester. Granted we both win our remaining games.

Better than a draw at least. That would've done nothing

Actually it would have changed a lot , now even if we win the rest of our games we need both Chelsea and Arsenal to drop pts. A draw and we only have needed Arsenal to drop pts.

We are not CL quality anyway and most likely we not be next season either , so it is not a that big a deal anymore. The very top players will not come near us CL or not.

What possesses people to come out with garbage like this? You want 3000 berts ballooning last minute tonight?

Yes I would prefer city to win the league but if you genuinely aren't bothered about losing to city then give up football. If you know them personally they are snidey, united obsessed little rats and if you can't take pleasure of one of the worst united teams stopping one of the best city teams ever from winning the league I genuinely feel sorry you.

I agree Liverpool winning the league is a disaster but let's worry about United first and foremost.
It all ended fine by me. Scousers aren't gonna win it so I'm happy with that. Shitty are streets ahead but is it any wonder when they are basically funded by a country as are PSG. What's really laughable is that even with a bottomless pit of funds and all the clever accountants making it appear they are playing by the rules, both of these teams are yet to win the Champions League yet to even reach the final.

I still fancy that it's gonna go to the final round of games. Arsenal are at Leicester and I don't fancy they'll win there. If United can somehow beat Chelsea it puts them in the driving seat for 4th as Uniteds last 2 games are easier than both Chelsea and Arsenal.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...

The Utd team out there yesterday cost the same as the City team...

With Utd having the higher wage bill.

Course they will. We are not CL quality but we can still attract elite players regardless. At the end of the day money talks.

Also it's a bit misleading to say that you can't attract good players if your not in the Champions League. Liverpool signed Firmino, Mane and Coutinho when they were in the Europa League. They haven't done too badly for them.

This is true. Chelsea (and Spurs) will be getting European distraction so if we win all remaining games, we should be good. I think Spurs has won enough points to secured 4th.

Chelsea and Arsenal are in the semi-finals of Europa League, and we all know the result of winning that.

They also have 2 away games each out of their remaining 3 games.

If we can somehow beat Chelsea on Sunday, we have a good chance of 4th place.

I admit that come the start of the match last night, if we had scored, I would have been happy, but when City
scored, I was equally as happy, or "content"... then at the second, I smiled to myself..

Not so sure , I would agree with Keane and Gary Neville and say that this is not necessarily the case anymore. The elite players will have other options that will include both big pay deals and realistic ambitions of winning titles , CL's etc.

We are nowhere as near attractive to players as we once were and there is a bit of denial going on about that , I know we don't like to hear it but Mourino touched on that as well when he was trying to bring players in. We are becoming the Newcastle of the mega clubs , still a big club but a bit of a basket case right now.

United can't seem to score though. I have no confidence that they're gonna beat even a struggling Chelsea.
