Can't believe onohua has made such a deal of it. I would imagine it happens in almost every match to lesser, similar or worse degrees. Embarrassing to go public about it

Sounds like he just couldn’t handle a world class athlete/competitor.

When I played the game, this was pretty much a regular thing on the pitch. Every time there's a nutmeg there's always a punch line incoming
Every time there's a foul, a punch line is going to come. It's part of the game.
Center backs are usually the experts on using physical intimidation, specially on dead ball situations.
When you score a goal, you would make sure to celebrate in your opponent's face without being too much obvious.
There are even center backs who take it to further levels like eating garlics / onions before the match (trust me, a stinking breath it's incredibly disturbing).

This list could go on for pages and pages.

Being a bit of a clown by the sound of it.

What happened and what was said?
The first flashpoint came in the 60th minute, when 37-year-old Ibrahimovic was booked for dragging Onuoha to the ground by his neck in an off-the-ball incident.

Onuoha said the former Manchester United striker then made the threats to him following another challenge shortly afterwards.

"This time he hit me on top of head. I was again thinking: 'What is going on here?'" Onuoha told BBC Sport.

"He kept saying: 'You know what? I am going to hurt you. I am going to do you. You just watch, there is enough time, I am going to do you.'"

After Ibrahimovic scored, Onuoha claims the former Sweden international told him: "You don't mess with me in the game. You don't mess with me."

Once the game was over, Ibrahimovic came into Real's dressing room, later telling reporters: "I went to shake their hands, no big issues."

Describing the moment, Onuoha, who joined Real in 2018, said: "He started coming towards me and said, 'have you calmed down, big man?'

"The amount of disrespect he showed me on the field - I want to let things go, but I can't let them go, especially when it is so raw.

"The way he came in was almost arrogant in itself, trying to be all friendly. But this is the guy who fouled me on the field, tried to embarrass me when they scored, then he comes in to try and allegedly apologise.

"I do not think he is a good person, so I am not going to offer my hand and, in no uncertain terms, I told him to get out."
Now try saying that without crying, wee man.

 How can we condemn fans for abusing players or players for abusing refs but when players do it to other players the victim is a pussy?

Just like football fans who shout 'wankers' at each other during and outside of football match, They should've just continued right there in the dressing room. It's just some friendly banter.

Old school.

The only thing that bugs me is celebrating in a player's face. Always felt that's really small time if you're the aggressor.

Sometimes they do it because the other guy spent the entire match bullying you with fouls, trash talking and other stuff.

Other times they are just pricks.

Unless you are in a 1 vs 1 sport or a relatively easy to control game environment by the refs, the majority of the players will try to use verbal abuse or physical bullying to see which button will push the player out of their focus. To an extent, the player might get angry and try to assault him and get a red card.

??? I know how competitiveness works. That's not my point. There is a strange level of what is okay and what isn't okay for football fans when things happen inside a stadium. If a bloke came up to me in the street and started telling me that he was going to do me and hurt me I wouldn't have very much respect for him and would be close to lashing out, but to some on here it's deemed acceptable due to being in a competitive environment. There are ways of intimidating opponents without resorting to such cnutish behaviour.

Also, Onuoha didn't even react in a bad way. Argued with him on the pitch, refused his handshake after the game and stood his ground. Was asked about the incident by reporters and gave his honest answer as to why he didn't respect Zlatan but he's suddenly a pussy. :annoyed:

I don't find it hard to believe that Zlatan is a bully. And there's not many on here is wager that wouldn't be intimidated of he was doing it to you.

If this happened then Onuoha should go public.

What happens on the pitch stays on the pitch. Its pathetic to seek attention afterwards and gap about it to the press.

Respect to Zlatan for coming over like a man after the game. Disrespect to Onuoha for handling it all like a woman.

Onuoha is coming off as a bit of a tit here to be honest. Wayne Hennessey and Karl Henry used to be semi-regulars at my shop when they played for Wolves and while I tried to play it cool and avoid the subject altogether, we briefly talked football a few times, specifically about how much of a twat Joey Barton used to be and most of those exchanges centred around the little one liners they'd drop to each other in between challenges. Peter Crouch also covered the subject on his podcast so this is pretty minor stuff in the grand scheme of things.

That's just fecking banter though? Even I sometimes say weird shite to opponents in my saturday afternoon pub team match. Bit of trash talking never hurt anyone.

Zlatan is a bit of a cnut, thats part of why he's successful.

The same snowflakes crying about this probably think the modern game misses characters like Keane and Viera.

"He kept saying: 'You know what? I am going to hurt you. I am going to do you. You just watch, there is enough time, I am going to do you.''...and it sounds like Zlatan got inside his head.

Imagine going home to be the man of the house, make love to your wife etc after letting words on a football pitch trigger you. Feeble.

You are the type to let words upset you also then, no wonder you sympathise with Onuoha. Make sure and wear a cotton wool coat the next time you step into the big bad world.

That's the point, it's an intimidation tactic. It can buy you space in the match if the defender is scared to get into a 50/50 challenge with you.

This sort of stuff happens all the time, you've just got to be mentally strong and ignore it - I don't think Zlatan has ever "done" anybody on a pitch.

Things get said/done in the heat of battle, at least he went to apologise to him. I foresee many more strikers now doing the same thing to rattle him.

A six foot seven psycho black belt in karate would bother me at all.
In fact I'd welcome it just so I wasn't called a pussy.

I hope someone does it to me today. I'll film it.

This kind of thing happens in almost every single game in the NFL. This level of trash talking and intimidation. They usually shrug it off for what it is; trying to gain a psychological edge over an opponent.

I think anyone who has played football at literally any level will know the game is rife with this kind of stuff. It's a fantastic part of the game in my opinion - there's nothing he's said that's overstepped the mark (ie if he was racist, physically violent) and why hasn't Onuoha given him some back if it's bothered him so much.

Onuoha would have been better off clattering him during the game rather than this, he's really embarrassed himself.

Exactly. It even happens in cricket! I don't mind that being part of top level sport. Obviously violence should be punished by but on a words on a football field - that stuff is part and parcel of the game and always has been. I don't care for it personally but it doesn't offend me in the slightest.

 Seriously?!

You're right that anyone who has played football at any level will encounter their share of mouthy dickheads. But I don't know anyone who would consider them "a fantastic part of the game". That's just weird.
