If we replace him with someone younger and as good/better, no issues. But oh well the confidence is not high currently in doing so, i think come August/September we will know more.

Can't fault his effort and commitment on the pitch, had some skill to actually back it up to.

As much as I'd love him to stay, I can see why he would find it difficult to turn down what is rumored to be a 5 year deal on obscene wages at PSG especially when we are only offering him a fraction of it, yet offering players who haven't done anything for this club absolutely ridiculous numbers.

Enjoy the money mate.
He’s 30, his current club feels he is not the money I asked for. They could have renewed his contract after he won player of the year. See his teammates like Marital play well for maybe 6 games then have Ed Jizz and be given a new deal. He may not be world class but its clear he give his all every time stepping onto the pitch. HIs new club may flush with oil money but is perennial CL presence and better players. If all is true he is being paid year at double his current contract. Our club will be in rebuilding mode for years.

Don’t blame the guy for going. Classy enough to make that message to the fans. Never himself or used his agent to wage public games with the club. Wishing him the best of luck and, yes, enjoy his money.

Interesting parallels but doesn’t the question of weekly wages all boil down to the ridiculous amount given to Sanchez for what has to be the most shameful performance of a United player in living memory.
To an extent yes, but I also think it reflects badly on the maturity level of the players if they’re constantly comparing their wages to Sanchez.

They should be able to recognise that as a freak situation where he seems ridiculously overpaid in hindsight, but only because he’s declined more suddenly and to a greater degree than Fernando Torres (I know his last season at Arsenal wasn’t great but didn’t appear indicative of long-term decline at the time).

We offered star player money at the time and can’t just lower them now that he’s turned out to be such a flop.

If there’s only one year left on his contract (unsure on this) and Alexis doesn’t wish to move due to his wages, it wouldn’t surprise me if we pay off the circa £26M left on his contract simply to re-establish a fairer wage structure in the long-term (which will be worth much more in the long run in both financial and squad morale terms. Plus assist with contract negotiations for incoming transfers, especially when it comes to the biggest names.

The differences in the reaction to Ander and Valencia's farewells are quite interesting. Both played with a lot of heart and effort yet the one actually who actually won a league title and wore the armband is a complete afterthought

How idiotic is it to make comments about him being money grabbing and going to a plastic club. Our club are the absolute idiots for letting him run his contract down and then lowball him with salaries, whilst the likes of Sanchez are stealing a living

Love the way some on here think we are going to become Manchester City in one transfer window. You need the Ander Herrera's at your club. Not every team is made up completely of world class players. In fact we might be lucky to have even one after the summer.

Allegedly we have two at the moment, although you'd hardly notice, and they both want away.

Decisions, decisions....

Glasgow resident these days.
It’s almost like this video was release to create an atmosphere for people to stay behind at the final whistle tomorrow.
When was the last time we had a video on the clubs site when leaving?
The club stinks at the moment.

Love him and wish him the best but think its better for both parties.
Hope Mata does the same while getting rid of Rojo, Darmian etc.
The downside is we are keeping Young and Jones ffs!
Doesn't matter who the feck we get rid of, if we aren't getting new players in to replace them all (at least like for like at the very minimum), we aren't making progress

If we seriously think that he’s not replaceable then we need to get out more.
He’s closer to the end of his career and we should look at younger better options. Ndidi,Doucoure, Rodri., Tielemans...Folks, no need to get down about this.

So long Ander and thanks for memories. Great performance in the Europa final!
Unless your name is Messi or Ronaldo everyone is replaceable. The idiocy in this is we are losing one of the few players we had that seemingly gave a damn about what happened on the pitch. There's also a real dearth in energy and intensity in our squad, something Herrera possessed in droves. You only have to look at the two Champions League semi finalists to see how integral these traits are becoming. Now we have to spend, what, circa £50mil to replace him like for like? He'll be missed.

I’m sad he’s going, but it’s not a massive deal.

Criticising the club for this and comparing him to Jones is mental. Maybe he asked for a massive pay rise but Jones was happy on a reduced wage?
Maybe because hes shit and he knows no other top club would even go near him?

Fred was signed with an eye to be his replacement and the emergence of McTominay as a decent, reliable player as well means we actually don't have to do that. There's free/cheap alternatives, like Rabiot.

Amusing how Young and Jones get new contracts and Herrera leaves.

Fred has been nowhere near as good as Herrera. Were in trouble if he's the replacement going by this past season

Fred, gets bullied in Epl. Anyone who thinks free was the one to replace Herrera is correct is delusional.

Probably best for both parties all things considered.
The only real downside for us being that we've so many problem players to get rid of this summer and he didn't fall into that category. Another year would have been ideal, same thing with Mata although I expect the same outcome. Can't begrudge them either really.

We are prioritising the likes of Young, Smalling, Jones, Martial. But Herrera is allow to run down to the point that PSG can offer a wage that's high....because there's no transfer fee.

Herrera getting a contract 18 months ago and he likely goes from ~70k per week to 120k per week.

On top of that, you have the likes of Martial getting a payday for no reason. Then he sulks on the pitch. Herrera was out there leading the troops, praising sanchez in the press to help with confidence. Doing all the captain things.

So why do we "draw the line" at Herrera, but the rest of the trash get a free pass?

Fred was in his first season here in a team that was a mess. I expect him to improve next year. Also Herrera had one really good season in 5 years. Let's not go overboard now.

The team by and large was better when Herrera was playing this season. Chelsea away in the cup was awesome.

Most of all this guy always put in a shift and would have been good enough to play for some of Fergie’s teams over the years.

A big loss I think and his departure adds to our problems this summer. I wouldn’t have given him 200k a week though so if that story is true then the club did the right thing.

Herrera has been here for 5 years and delivered very inconsistent performances

Fred has been here for 1 year and delivered very inconsistent performances

I'm happy that Herrera leaves and make room for McTominay, and let's get someone in that can significantly improve the 1st team but this person isn't Herrera.

I've seen him make a lot of unforced errors and stray passes, but I haven't seen him get bullied. You can call Mourinho delusional all you like, but it doesn't paint you in a great light.

Expected, but sad. We got so much we need to do this summer now.

Herrera has been a great servent though. Good mentality and always worked hard for the team.

Because of a stupid rule of not giving big contracts to players near 30, and will keep no exceptions without caring about our position in the table or team goals. Just like florentino Perez runs the club.

No wonder we Woodward is being seen dining with him on various occasions.

Renew Young, Smalling, Jones, Lingard, Rojo.. and let this guy walk for free. UNITED
This is the truly annoying bit of it all.

Loved ander, and all the debate about contracts money loving Utd etc are all true, but what you’ve said is actually the mind boggling bit

:(:( The best signing of the post Sir Alex era by a distance and one of the only ones who Fergie wouldve loved. Such a shame we're losing him while keeping so much other dross. Said it before but I'll say it again. Hes the only midfielder who I would keep out of our group. He gets it and always gives his all and has quality to boot.

Thanks for the 5 years though Ander, good luck wherever you go!

If you have no contract and other team offer you a better wage you'll take it.

We're not '08 ManUnited. I can't blame him but Woodward&the boars need a slap on their heads.

Yet another indictment of our disastrous approach to running a football club. I've no problem whatsoever with Ander leaving and wish him well. I'm not convinced that he's the answer to us fixing our midfield, so this may force the clubs hand to get someone better.

But, letting a 29 year-old run down his contract and leave on a free is is simply shambolic. Especially when you're handing them out like hot-cakes to players like Jones - who is hardly playing.

As usual, it looks like the club is doing the easy things and failing at the hard ones.
