I dont think we'll get him. That Napoli owner is one of the most difficult people to work with. Maybe we can look at Jonathan Tah? Or is he already going to Bayern?
How's Tah doing these days? Haven't heard much about him lately.

De Ligt is Barca-bound.

Koulibaly will remain at Napoli.

Maguire to City.

Alderweireld too old?

So we will go for Ruben Dias then?

Kompany gone and Otamendi half way out the door, with De Ligt probably on his way to Barca, is anyone slightly worried City might buy him?

Yes. Especially since they were looking at him last summer

Buying both Koulibaly and De Ligt should never be about "can we afford it" at a club with the yearly revenue Manchester United brings in. Ideally we should be snapping both up instead of "one or the other, but probably neither."
Exactly. £160m done. Let's not piss about.

I meant in terms of stats. Chance creation/shows/goals/xG/every other barometer, its pretty similar between Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea and United over the course of a season. Say what you want about how it is on paper, but in reality, that's what they put out. We fix our defence and midfield, and we give our attack a better platform to perform, and hopefully they push on even more. If they don't, then we add what we need. Obviously a right winger is needed, but the others aren't needed for now at least. Much bigger problems and that simply has to be where our priority lies - the defence and midfield.

It straight up doesnt make sense, if you have a finite budget, to focus on your attack which is already performing at a ~top 4 level, when you have a defence/midfield that is performing at a bottom half of the table level.
For me I judge the football with my eyes rather than based on stats, and frankly, our attacks the worst it's been since I started watching football imo (2003). I respect your opinion though and a better defence and midfield would help us, but I've thought our attacks been our main issue for about 3-4 years now and its just the way I see it. For me ideally we'd bring in 1-2 top attackers, and then a midfielder and defender on top.

Imo you could swap Liverpools and City's backline and midfield into our team and we'd still struggle - it's their attacks that really differentiate them into top teams. You see it countless times when Martial runs into a blind alley, Lingard does nothing, or when Rashford fluffls a chance that Pogba sets up for him.

His new contract is reportedly €14m a year(~£220k a week) with a €150m release clause. Now, if that release clause is true, then that is his price. That's how Napoli operates

Napoli have money like that? On to the next if that’s the case.

They kinda don't. Broke their wage structure for him if true. Next highest paid player is Insigne(€9m a year)

Who knows? Umtiti, Manolas, The Serie A guys (Skriniar, Milenkovic, Andersen), the Leipzig guys (Konate, Upamecano), Elvedi, Hermoso, Tah, Zouma, Stark, Saliba, Ake, Djene, Rice bought and moved back to CB, lots of options. Could be anyone, really.

I think he'd have a similar effect on forwards as Stam. They'd be hesitant to go in for 50/50s when they see him tearing down on them. An absolute monster.

He is not a man city type of buy. I think they have a self imposed cap on how much they spend on a single player. Pep said he wouldn't spend 70m on a cmd, so I don't expect him to do it for a cb. I think it's going to be Maguire for less than 60m

I still think, like last summer, Koulibaly plus Alderweireld for a combined 120m or there abouts is good business. On the off chance Koulibaly takes a while to settle we have a solid option and options. If he's 90 then so be it if we think he's good enough. As a pair it's good business and a huge upgrade.

Koulibaly Alderweireld lindelof Smalling Jones at back is solid and lots of depth. Rojo to leave of course.

Firmly believe that had we done it last season for example, or maguire and Alderweireld we'd at least be in champions league.

Seems that he doesn't want to join us now.
If you're going off that tweet from the "dr Jon Mac" in the transfer thread... you must be very gullible. :)

He is quite clearly not a real journalist. Just a 14 year old boy having a laugh pretending to be.

If you think that doing business with the Napoli president is easy stuff then you must be even more gullible than me.

Who said it would be easy? You stated "he doesn't want to join us" yet I've seen nothing regarding that at all.

Yeah I'd go with that, even Alderweireld and a potentially world class CB would be good business for around £60-100m. Koulibaly and Alderweireld would only be good for 3-5 years max but for that price, it would be good business. It would be an instant upgrade on our defence at present, both have CL experience and our their best in their respective leagues with Toby coming from the Prem.

Lindelof and Bailly were both signed for their potential and have been expected to lead our defence at different times. They need time and patience, most posters would have got rid of Lindelof half way through his first season and now he is looking half decent so let's see where he is at in a years time whilst Koulibaly and Toby are our main choice CB's. These two plus Lindelof, Bailly and Tunzaebe would be good options. Sell Jones, Smalling, TFM, and Rojo, could fetch £40-60m back from them lot.

No one can expect young defenders to play like Rio in his prime, however patience onl6 makes sense if there's some form of progression going on. Else we risk having a Jones moment who managed to stay at the club for nearly a decade with barely anything to justify it. Keeping high standards is as important as showing patience as complacency can kill a squad off

Tbf I see that progression in lindelof and tuanzebe but not on Bailly

Has he said anything about his situation himself? Seeing Stam today makes me pine for a rock in the defense again.

Dude is a beast of a central defender. TOP 3 in the world IMO. That said 150 million euros is a crazy fee. I remembered when everyone was shocked at van Dijk's price tag. In hindsight it might turn out to be a "cheap" buy. That's how crazy the market is at the moment.

I hope the latest rumours of a bid are true. We've not had a monster defender since Stam. Would really bring on Lindelof having him as partner.

De Ligt is a pipedream. And I'd much much rather have Koulibaly for 85m than Maguire for 80m.

no de ligt, Koulibaly likely deemed too expensive. Oh god, it's going to be the chuckle brothers again for a whole season isn't it?
